DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 23-27)
High pressure builds toward the region today with still some northerly breeze felt here between it and far-offshore storminess, but a nice day with plenty of sun and just a few possible passing fair weather clouds. High pressure sits atop our region with clear, chilly nights and sunny, pleasant days this weekend, and with the high shifting offshore we’ll enjoy a push of warmer air Monday before a dry cold front passes through later Monday and leads Canadian high pressure into our region with cooler but continued fair weather for Tuesday.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 28-35 except 35-42 urban centers. Wind NW under 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 33-40. Wind calm.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 36-43. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 61-68. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: A few clouds, then clear. Lows 35-42. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 28 – NOVEMBER 1)
Dry stretch continues through the end of October with a possible brief interruption of rain showers from a frontal passage on October 30. Watching the very end of the period (November 1) for the approach of low pressure and a rain chance, but timing uncertain.
DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 2-6)
Rain chance start of period, briefly fair, then unsettled weather chance follows as pattern is a little more active during the early days of November.
Good morning and thank you TK.
44 and that is the low.

RE: Patriots
Considering all of the injuries they did ok. Maye played well, except that one very ill-timed interception. That very well may have cost them the game.
I think they can play with any team in the league. They’ll be fine.
They should finish 12-5 or 11-6. Worse case, 10-7 imho.
Excellent 3, JpDave !
I agree with your Pats synopsis, but games to come against the Bills, Chiefs, Vikings, Lions and Packers, I’m more at 10-7, perhaps even 9-8.
Thanks Tom. I think they’ll do better than you might think.
Very nice 3 for a not easy word
Great job on Wordle today!
Thanks TK !
Wordle: I had the last 4 letters in the correct spot after 2 guesses and turned a potential 3 into a fail !
Never heard, not familiar with that letter in front of those other 4.
Oh well, lol ………
Oh nooooooo. So sorry. I’m familiar with the word but it is unusual.
Thank you. Sorry Tom. Get em tomorrow!!!
I had the 1st 3 letters in position after 2 guesses. I had a bunch of words I could have used, but all where plurals and then the word popped into my head. I thought it was a word, but I wasn’t sure. So I said what have I got to loose and BINGO it was the word.
I am happy with the 3, until someone gets it in 2 or perhaps even 1. 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Thank you, TK. 36 up a degree from low of 35. We sure dropped slowly, but significantly. We were 51 at midnight and didnt get to the 30s til 6:00
I’m having fun with word finder still. I have my first two starter words for the next three nights.
Wordle 4
Come on up to the 4 car, Tom.
Nice 4.
Great 4 Vicki and thanks ! 🙂
Thank you both
Jumping in the 4 car
Yay. I love company.
Nice 4.
Thanks TK
Thanks, TK.
I haven’t watched much football this year, but did enjoy parts of the game last night. Maye and Williams are exciting QBs. I feel like Williams a bit ahead of schedule, though, at this point. He’s quite a dynamic QB. By the way, this Bears team is SO different from the Bears teams in recent decades. They used to be known for great defense and either so-so offense or plain bad. Now their defense isn’t so hot, but offense is.
As far as marching bands at half-time, these were the shows in the 1950s and 60s `Superbowls’ (when they weren’t called Superbowls). And of course, they’re still very much part of the college halftime shows. I sometimes go to Harvard stadium to watch them play, say, Dartmouth (I’ve also been to several Harvard-Yale games). And the marching bands along with skits and antics are the halftime shows.
Those Harvard-Yale games are now played at Fenway. I wonder if that park holds more fans than Harvard Stadium?
I am yet another 4-car Wordle passenger.
Yay. Party in 4 today
Nice 4
Thank you TK! TGIF!!!!
Wordle: jumping on the 4 car and very impressed with JPD’s 3!
Wonderful. Agree re JPDs 3!!
Great job Sue and all !!
Nice 4 and thank you.

Staggering how many hurricanes have travelled over the same waters over the Mexican coast and yet, as much as the water has been deeply mixed, boom, so much energy left for another cyclone to feed off it.
I understand El Nino may have maxed and to be in decline going forward.
I think though, the Pacific hurricane season is shedding light on how much the atmosphere, as a whole, has been affected by the 4 and 3C temp anomolies in the eastern Nino regions and that, its going to take a while for the atmosphere to react to the El Nino easing. I don’t think, if for example, the El Nino cools by half its anomalies by February, that the atmosphere will have backed off on its affects by half. I believe there will be a lag in the reaction, sort of like the lag in max/min temps weeks after the solstices.
And to clarify the signs of the affect on the atmosphere. Though I mentioned it, its not really the continuous warm water.
Its the upper atmospheric conditions in the Pacific to keep producing these powerful systems and likewise, the atmospheric conditions that shredded the Caribbean and Atlantic hurricane season.
Its screaming that the atmosphere is so deeply altered right now by this El Nino. I expect the next shoe to drop will be signs of drought and excessive for Australia heat to start to show as November arrives and deepens.
Thanks, TK!
52 degrees as we approach the noon hour. Thinking about getting the clubs out and losing some golf balls at a nearby course this afternoon. I haven’t been golfing in more than two years. Well, what I consider golf. 🙂
The Wayback Machine, this morning, stops at October 23, 2018, eight years ago today, when four tornadoes struck Massachusetts and Rhode Island in a little more than an hour:
EF-1 from North Providence to Lincoln, RI, EF-1 in Hardwick, MA, EF-1 in Norton, MA and an EF-0 in Hubbardston, MA .(source: US National Weather Service, Boston, Norton)
I remember being in the dentist’s chair around 3:15 when my phone was blowing up with Tornado Warnings for Bristol County, MA. I then drove up Rt. 24 to my son’s soccer game at Randolph High School, trying to “outrun” the storm. The game was stopped in the first half when we all had to evacuate the stadium to the school with the approaching storm.
The Norton tornado touched down just north of Rt. 123, not too far from our church.
This photo, that appeared in the Brockton Enterprise (credit), was snapped in Raynham that same afternoon just down the street from my dentist’s office right over Rt. 24:

Quite a memorable afternoon!
Philip, you’re right about this year’s Harvard-Yale game being held at Fenway, which has a capacity of around 5,000 more than Harvard Stadium. The latter is a 1902 neo-Greek coliseum structure, which I believe the oldest active football stadium in the country. Similarly, 1912 Fenway is the oldest active ballpark in the nation.
Fenway hosts a number of high school Thanksgiving rivalry football games during the days leading up to the holiday each fall. One of the four games this year will be Canton vs. Stoughton which is the 100th game between the two schools.
Indeed. Really cool!
Of course, Fenway was also home to the Boston Patriots, precursor to the NE Patriots.
We are blessed with Fenway and Harvard Stadium. Two ancient gems. I was kind of sad when the Matthews Arena was torn down. I made a point of attending one of the last Northeastern hockey games there. I like old stuff.
