DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 20-24)
The high pressure north, storm at sea pattern continues for a few more days. The initial expected push of the offshore low north enough to throw a cloud shield across the sky later yesterday was weaker than forecast, and the cloud deck’s progress was weak and thwarted further by dry air. As a result, a mostly clear night resulted in a colder start this morning and also means more sunshine will be around today. Even tonight into Wednesday the cloud deck will struggle to push north and west initially, but will finally do so in a more notable way later Wednesday through early Thursday, when the storm makes its closest pass to New England, clouds enough to bring the chance of some light rainfall to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod, and perhaps a few sprinkles as far north and west as the MA South Shore to South Coast (west of the Cape Cod Canal). By later Thursday, the storm actively moves north northeast and its cloud deck departs. As the storm heads for Atlantic Canada late this week, an upper low’s western periphery will skirt our region on Friday with a cloud / sun mix but it looks like any convective precipitation associated with it will be up over Maine then track into the waters east of our region. Saturday’s weather should feature full sunshine as high pressure builds in for a nice start to the final full weekend of October.
TODAY: Limited sun Cape Cod / Islands, brighter sun filtered by high clouds at times elsewhere. Highs 56-63. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape / Islands.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy – most clouds Cape / Islands. Lows 38-45. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, except higher gusts Cape / Islands.
WEDNESDAY: Slow increase in high to middle clouds southeast to northwest, further limiting sunshine. Highs 55-62. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape / Islands.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Periods of rain possible Cape / Islands and slight chance of rain MA South Shore to South Coast west of Cape Cod Canal. Lows 41-48. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH MA South Shore to South Coast including Cape / Islands.
THURSDAY: Increasing sun west to east. Highs 53-60. Wind NE to N 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 33-40. Wind N 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 51-58. Wind N 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 31-38. Wind N to NW diminishing to under 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 25-29)
High pressure provides fair weather with a milder trend as it sinks to the south of the region early period. Watch for a cold frontal passage with maybe a rain shower sometime October 27-28 and a shot of cooler air to follow it in a generally zonal flow pattern.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 30 โ NOVEMBER 3)
A little uncertain as to the pattern details end of October and start of November but for our sensible weather is currently looks dry to end the month, and maybe a brief interruption of unsettled weather somewhere in the first couple days of November as the westerly flow pattern is most dominant here. Temperatures would be up-and-down, but not extreme in either direction.
You may (or may not) recall my mentioning some weeks back about the idea that El Nino, being “super-hyped” by general media might not quite reach the heights pretty much guaranteed, and that the peak would take place BEFORE winter.
The new CFSv2 prediction for El Nino now supports this idea more, with an indication that the El Nino is peaking right now, and will begin a gradual weakening trend as we head into November and further as we move into and through winter.
My idea on this play-out remains the same, with a bit more confidence now. And yes, this will have an impact on the winter forecast – just not sure exactly how yet. The issuance of that forecast from WHW is about a month away.
Thus, it will be 50F in Dec and Jan and 30F in March and April ???

I’m sure we will have 50 degree days in December and January (which we pretty much do every year) and I’m also sure we’ll have days in the 30s in March and lows in the 30s in April (which we pretty much do every year), yes. ๐
Thank you, TK. First sunrise for me in quite a while. Iโd forgotten the peace of the early hours.
Lots of white frost on lawns.

Wow. Terrific 3s for all. Seems 3 is the party car today!!
Thanks TK
I continue to see posts on X winter cancelled this year due to Super El Nino. There are other pieces to the puzzle besides El Nino. I am hoping for 2-3 good Nor’easters this winter.
I am with you JJ.
I’m with you both if there is rain in Marshfield and snow in JP and everywhere else north and west of Marshfield, all the way out to CT where JJ and Mark live.
I snow plenty enough snow in 2 major snowstorms, 20″ and 30″+, last winter, for at least the next 5 winters.

Hopefully, this won’t be 403 forbidden.
Super typhoon, Champi.
Its been a super typhoon for a while, difference is, its eye was much smaller a few days ago.
I’m surprised its continued intensity, given how big the eye has become. The central dense overcast remains with super cold cloud tops and the hurricane is nearly perfectly symmetric.
Even on infrared, one can see the mini vortices circulating within the massive eye.
YIKES!!!! Where is it headed?

Thanks Tom. Looks like Taiwan gets the brunt of it.
That does not seem to be taking the path discussed recently here…..
You know where it was discussed that the paths wold take then North and disrupt the Upper flow.
Perhaps I misunderstood? I dunno?

Ahhh thanks Tom. I didn’t see the departure from average.
Thank you !
I saw your awesome post initially and thought I’d just try to compliment it.
Right in front of my nose!!! Just never clicked on it before? Why? Who knows. My head is in the clouds?

My brother got 2 more Wordle guesses of 2 since the previous 2 that I reported.
So he never got a 2 before last week, and since the first time has a total of 4. ๐
What a roll he is on.
Wow. Well done
Thanks Tk
Water temperature out at the Georgeโs Bank buoy is 72 degrees. Has the Gulf Stream temporarily bumped to the north?
Thanks, TK!
This is absolutely not weather. But I hope itโs OK to post here. And most may have seen it I donโt know, but thereโs tons of recalled meat.
https://www.fsis.usda.gov/sites/default/files/food_label_pdf/2026-10/Recall_026-2026-product-labels.pdf
Refrigeration storage unit was above 40F.
Enough is enough.
Heard about it several times on the news. Many times the recalls are not 100% necessary but it is done out of an abundance of cautionโฆ as it should be.
It really doesn’t take much to monitor cooler temps. I do it at the assisted living every day. A walk-in freezer, a walk-in fridge, a large two-door fridge, a medium sized two-door fridge, two under the line deli fridges, and one standard sized two-door fridge in the memory care section.
If there is any doubt, I feel a recall should be issued. There are too many people. Elderly Young, immune compromised, Iโm pretty much all of us.
Not going to get political but these very many recalls have a source
Bโs up 1-0 early in the first.
Re recalls. We have a great family cow farm in Sutton. Iโve just started buying my meat from them and my produce and anything else I have. They carry boars head too. And I know boars had had a recall recently. But I know firsthand that they took it incredibly seriously.
Boar’s Head is generally very good. They are our main provider at my place of work other than getting occasional meat products from our primary supplier of “everything else”.
They are a main supplier to Whittier along with Cabot cheese. Thereโs a Cabot cheese truck with the Whittier family painted on the side of it. Itโs pretty cool to see. And where has her own me and they get chicken from a nearby supplier. Thereโs a huge selection.
Not to mention the produce the soups homemade and a whole bunch of other things. Itโs definitely a Sutton gem!!
โAnd they have their own meat .,..โ
New post…
