DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 18-22)
A blocking pattern sets up during this 5-day period with high pressure overhead today then drifting just to our north, while low pressure organizes to our south. The idea is basically the same as previously discussed, with high pressure being dominant enough for dry weather here, but low pressure getting close enough at times to throw a cloud shield into the region, and maybe bring a period or two of rain to the South Coast region, particularly Cape Cod, at some point toward the middle of the coming week. After a tranquil day today when the high center is more overhead, after it moves to the north the air flow between it and the low pressure to the south will result in fairly persistent northeast winds in the days ahead.
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind variable under 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 33-40. Wind N to NE up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Sun becoming filtered by high clouds, also some lower clouds possible near the coast. Highs 57-64. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT / TUESDAY: Partly cloudy except mostly cloudy Cape Cod and South Coast with a chance of a period of rain on Cape Cod. Lows 38-45. Highs 56-63. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape Cod region.
TUESDAY NIGHT / WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 40-47. Highs 55-62. Wind NE 10-20 MPH except 20-30 MPH South Coast region with higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT / THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain near the South Coast, especially Cape Cod region. Lows 41-48. Highs 54-61. Wind NE 10-20 MPH, higher gusts at times particularly coastal areas.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 23-27)
Blocking set-up transitions to a more zonal – west to east – flow pattern. Watch for frontal passages with shower threats around October 24 and again later in the period.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 28 – NOVEMBER 1)
Overall pattern favors zonal flow but there are still some hints on guidance of a slip back toward blocking with more low pressure evolving to our south, which we may have to watch for a closer pass at mid period. For now, continuing the theme of mostly dry with brief rain shower threats from passing systems from the west.
