Saturday October 17 2026 Forecast (9:07AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 17-21)

The cold front that went by last night has slowed as it moves off the coast enough so that a wave of low pressure holds some rainfall back in the South Coast region to start off the weekend, but this will move out and a gradual clearing trend will resume from northwest to southeast across the region during today. Along with this comes much cooler air and a gusty breeze. High pressure builds into the region tonight and Sunday. Winds drop off tonight and under a clear sky the temperature can fall below freezing in many inland locations, while staying a little higher than that in urban centers and along the ocean shore. Widespread frost is likely and there will be radiation fog over the warmer water of swamps and ponds, which often makes for very picturesque sunrises. Sunday will be filled with sunshine, light wind, and pleasant-feeling air after the very chilly beginning. Monday-Wednesday we’ll be watching an ocean storm to our south while high pressure drifts back to the north a little bit, putting our region in a northeasterly air flow. The low to the south will send its cloud shield into the sky, especially southern areas, from time to time, and some lower clouds can wheel in off the ocean at times on the northeast wind, but other than Cape Cod maybe getting clipped by rain briefly sometime between Monday night and Tuesday night, I expect the high pressure area to keep our region dry.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy morning including some rain South Coast, particularly Cape Cod and Islands region. Clearing trend follows this with increasing sun mixed with some passing fair weather clouds. Highs 48-55. Wind NW increasing to 15-25 MPH, gusts 30+ MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 27-34 interior southern NH and central MA, 35-42 elsewhere, warmest urban centers and immediate coastal areas. Wind NW to N diminishing to under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 33-40. Wind N to NE up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sun becoming filtered by high clouds, also some lower clouds possible near the coast. Highs 57-64. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT / TUESDAY: Partly cloudy except mostly cloudy Cape Cod and South Coast with a chance of a period of rain on Cape Cod. Lows 38-45. Highs 56-63. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape Cod region.

TUESDAY NIGHT / WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 40-47. Highs 55-62. Wind NE 10-20 MPH except 20-30 MPH South Coast region with higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 22-26)

General large scale set-up is high pressure to the north, low pressure to the south of our area first half of period with a continued leaning toward dry weather with high pressure being dominant for our region. Pattern breaks down and transitions to a more zonal (west to east) flow later in the period. System from the west may bring showers by the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 27-31)

West to east (zonal) flow pattern with up and down temperatures and brief rain shower chances. Best unsettled weather chances ~October 27 & 30.

  1. Wordle 4

Nyt continues to impress me with words we know but that are far from easy to get. I had nothing for first guess, two with one in correct place for second. Next two guesses were pure luck.

    1. Similar to me, also in 4. I like reading the NYT analysis reviewing the game. Apparently, after guess 2 I only had 2 words that would fit, so naturally I chose the wrong one.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

    48/36 here

    Ocean: 58

Wordle: 6 I found wordle to be nearly impossible today. I wonder how others fare today.

    1. Getting this one is very good. Welcome aboard.

I used a word from word finder. Then I searched for a five letter word that used the missing vowels. I like to know all vowels in first two

      1. isn’t that cheating? Once I have anything, I don’t look up a thing. I am completely on my own. 🙂 🙂 🙂

        1. Not at all. I don’t look up anything after I start. I know what I’ll use for my first two words before the game is released at midnight. How would knowing the two words you want to start with be cheating.

          1. I was talking about the 5 letter word missing the vowels?
Was that ahead of time? If so, then of course not cheating. I may have misread the comment. 🙂

            1. Yes it’s ahead of time. I’d never cheat.

I’ve used the same two starting word since Wordle was released. I just started playing around with a different two starter words when you shared word finder. But I always know ahead of time two words that will cover all vowels

  3. I think tomorrow morning might be a good sunrise morning at the pond with radiation fog over the water.

Great come-back win for the Bruins in Anaheim to now be 2-0 on the road trip. Spotted the Ducks a 2-0 lead after the first period before coming back with four unanswered goals including 3 PPG’s to win 4-2. Back at it tonight in LA.

  4. Thank you TK!

Wordle: I just can’t escape car 4. But definitely pleased to get this one in 4 and happy to have good company.

  5. Out and about.

I know it was forecast, I know it’s getting to be the time of year.

    Still, it’s cold out.

No big storm swells, but this NNW wind is making some white cap 2-3 ft waves that are busily crashing onshore as the tide goes out.

  6. Some ski areas in NNE are off to their earliest start to snow making in years.

Here in SNE we’ve had a mild first half of Oct with temps running 2 or 3 above the long term average, but that’s going to get trimmed back somewhat this weekend through next week.

  7. Thank you TK.

Walked the shore early as usual. Blustery.

    B’s in 1st place.

Do not want the Pats to bring anyone back to the lineup unless totally healthy. The game looks tough to me but Pats favored by more than a touchdown.

  8. Thanks TK.

45F here after an overnight high temperature of 54F. 0.75” in the rain gauge from yesterdays system for a total of just over 37” on the year.

  9. Thanks TK! 0.55” from the system yesterday in Padanaram, This 47 degree temp at noon feels like a slap in the face when walking outside. I haven’t felt air this chilly in months. Well sun angle is where it is on Feb 23rd so excuse my feeling of needing to hibernate which will only grow worse the next several weeks

  10. Stealing Eric Fisher’s seasonal step down saying, this cold front certainly took most of the eastern half of the country down 2 steps.

It has cleared house all the way to the gulf coast.

Jacksonville FL has a NW wind and is 66F.

Scoured out remaining warmth and humidity in a lot of the south that won’t soon rebuild.

      1. Hence, last nights 65F dps in southern New England …..

Well, you could still get another surge in November if your east of a very strong storm, but, the point is, with the humidity now essentially gone from the south, it’s going to be difficult and a while to potentially get 50s or near 60F dps back in here anytime soon.

  11. As TK mentioned, the snow guns are blasting at Killington today. My son is up there right now and just snapped this picture from the parking lot at the main lodge. If you zoom in, you can see the guns going on multiple trails in the North Ridge area just below the summit (top right of photo) and the top half of the Superstar (top left of photo):

It’s 35F and flurrying on and off at the base.

The Superstar trail only got a 4 month reprieve this year since the last of the spring snow melted in mid June 🙂

  12. Thank you, Mark. Thanks to your post. I totaled the rain for this year. I did not include snow. Am I supposed to?

25.32” to date for the year

      1. We often have less than other areas. I’ve mentioned that a few times.

Not sure how to do the snow. That may make the difference.

        1. The only way to do it accurately is to have melted it down and recorded the liquid equivalent at the time of each event, because the snow to water ratios are quite variable through the season. Using a 10:1 ratio will give you only a very rough approximation.

  13. Does anyone here watch the Rookie. It’s favorite of my 14 year-old granddaughter. And she has me watching it. It’s a great show.

    1. I do , it’s in my lineup up . I’d be lost without tv and I love my shows . My favorite night is Wednesday Chicago med , fire & PD. I love Boston Blue & Sherriifs county & fire country & tracker . I also love Law & order & suv on Thursday nights , bummed on what happened with law & order loosing someone . In addition to this I love my ch 5 news & chronicle.

      1. That’s a great list. I was wondering about Some so will add to my list. I’m almost thru rookie for the second time.

Just watched Boston blue. I loved blue bloods.

      2. I been watching those now as well!! Along with yellowstone based shows…. Then as a kid who grew up on avatar, watching the seven havens

  14. So 30.09. Brings me less than Mark; and I know when we posted, I consistently had less.

And I don’t compare to Worcester or even north sutton

  15. Why are there no frost/freeze warnings posted? It’s going to be more than cold enough most locations.

    Good night mosquitoes! Bzzzzz…plop! 😉

      1. The NWS for some reason has stopped issuing frost-freeze headlines at least temporarily in certain areas. I know they issue headlines during the growing season but they are in the process of some sort of experiment on issuing headlines. I think they might be making changes where they do not issue these warnings after growing season which probably around now.

The whole thing is a little vague.

        1. Thank you. And odd. A local friend is still growing. But she follows weather so is taking the last of her outdoor crops into the greenhouse

  16. 35F here in Coventry CT shortly after 1am. We had hit a low of 32.9F around midnight but interestingly the temp has risen in the past hour.
