DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 24-28)
High pressure is parked over our area for the weekend with light winds, a clear sky, chilly nights and milder afternoons – about as nice as it can get for late October. The high slips to the south Monday which features a more notable breeze but a stronger warm-up before a cold front passes through at night with nothing more than just some clouds (no rainfall). This will be followed by a cooler Canadian high pressure area for Tuesday and Wednesday with more dry weather.
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 33-40. Wind calm.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 60-67. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 36-43. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 63-70. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 37-44. Wind SW to NW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 28-35. Wind NW under 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 29 – NOVEMBER 2)
High pressure shifts to the south and it turns milder again October 29-30 but another moisture-starved front brings yet another Canadian high in for the October 31 / November 1 weekend with fair weather and a slight cool-down. Halloween Evening looks dry and cool at this point. Watch for low pressure from the west with a wet weather chance at the end of the period, based on current expected timing.
DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 3-7)
Briefly fair, then some unsettled weather with high pressure to the north and low pressure moving through from west to east in our region – details TBD.
Thanks TK !

“Josephine”, I bring up the name to reference the system I’m talking about ….. east of mainland Nova Scotia is Cape Breton Island and atop Kelly’s Mountain yesterday, fell a couple inches of wet snow. Its elevation is only 876 ft, but the main highway that goes over it, hits sea level at the ocean on both sides within a few miles, so, it has a steep climb to its highest point.
Reminds me of a time years ago where snow fell on Blue Hill but Not near the base or on rt. 138 that goes right by it. It was a sight to behold, especially from a distance where it really showed up well. ONLY time in my life that I witnessed that. Not saying it never happened before, but only time I saw it.
Top is 635 feet; but there was snow almost to the base, but not lower.
Neat !
Been there.
Please explain. Thanks
I think Longshot is saying he has been to Cape Breton and driven over Kelly’s Mountain.
🙂
Well that is what I wanted to know if that was the case.
Thanks TK

This current stretch of weather is absolutely awesome. October rarely fails to deliver REALLY nice periods of weather. Its inverse, April, is generally not as kind to us.
I learned something new today. Though the 17th century on the whole featured quite harsh winters in Southern New England, the early part of the 1620-21 winter was relatively mild. William Bradford, governor of Plymouth Colony, and fellow Pilgrim Edward Winslow noted that first part of the winter of 1620–1621 was “calm” with “remarkable mildness” at first. However, December was wet. Severe hardships and freezing weather did happen, though later in the winter, from late January through March 1621.
October and early November 1621 was described by Pilgrim William Hilton as “pleasant and temperate” in a letter sent back home to England in November 1621.
Like every other year, the squirrels are fairly busy storing nuts. I saw this on my run today. It’s amazing how they dig holes in the ground, put the nuts in them and remember later on without checking written notes or keeping the information on a tablet, iPhone, or Android. I can’t remember where I put my keys half the time. And that’s an almost every day thing.
