DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 6-10)
Our transition from a warm spell to seasonably cool weather will be slightly dramatic as a trough moves through our region today into the weekend. An associated frontal boundary that is moving into the region this morning has already triggered showers and even some heavier thunderstorms (which you may have woken up from in the pre-dawn in southeastern MA and parts of RI). The front will be hanging around the region through tonight with a couple waves of low pressure moving up along it, bringing us waves of rainfall with embedded heavier downpours – and additional thunder chances. The axis of heaviest rainfall does appear to set up near to east of I-95, with these areas seeing at least a 1 to 2 inch rainfall but some areas exceeding 2 inches. As previously mentioned, rivers and streams are fairly low from recent dry weather, so flooding with those is not expected. Poor drainage flooding, enhanced by leaf drop / drain clog, is likely. We have to wait for a final wave of low pressure to move by the region Saturday then intensify while moving through the Gulf of Maine and into Atlantic Canada during this weekend to see improvement. The forecast I wrote yesterday will be generally unchanged on today’s update. Once this gets by, we’re in a seasonably cool northwesterly air flow and watch for two disturbances / cold fronts to bring brief shower threats sometime Monday and again by later Tuesday.
TODAY: Cloudy. Numerous rain showers including embedded heavier downpours including potential thunderstorms, particularly I-95 belt eastward. Highs 63-70. Wind S 5-15 MPH, higher gusts especially South Coast.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers favoring I-95 eastward including embedded heavier downpours especially early evening. Areas of fog. Lows 48-55. Wind variable to NE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Highs 57-64, occurring by midday. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers likely. Lows 45-52. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy early morning including a chance of rain showers east of I-95, then a sun / cloud mix with a chance of a quick-passing shower through early afternoon. Highs 53-60. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
MONDAY: Sun / cloud mix. Chance of a quick-passing rain shower. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, then clearing. Lows 35-42. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunny, then a sun / cloud mix with a late-day brief rain shower possible. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 11-15)
Northwesterly to westerly air flow dominates. High pressure brings fair and seasonable weather for Veterans Day. Wave of low pressure brings more cloudiness minor rain chance later November 12 into November 13 but this is “trending drier” on guidance. Fair weather late period. Temperatures somewhat variable, averaging near normal overall.
DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 16-20)
Best shot of briefly unsettled weather is mid period, otherwise high pressure looks dominant with mostly dry and seasonable to mild weather.
Philip … to answer your question about the April 2 1982 system:
The one responsible for the first PDS tornado watch and ultimately a pretty significant outbreak of strong tornadoes was not the same storm system that would bring our area the April 6 “blizzard”. But it did help set that pattern up. The strong cyclone responsible for the severe weather upon moving into Canada was instrumental in delivering the cold air and “setting the table” for the snow event that followed just a few days later.
Good morning and thank you TK
66/61 here
Ocean: 56. It has been so warm, the ocean temperature actually went up. We are now running 4+ degrees F above the historical average.
Wordle; 5. Never heard of this word!! Got nothing with first guess. Thought I had word on 3rd and fourth guesses. Wrong first letter. Just ran out of letters that made a word and got it in 5. Strange game.l
Will it make 70 at Logan today? I hope it does. Why not? Let’s go for a record as I don’t believe we have had 5 consecutive days tin the 70s before.
Thanks TK !
Wordle: 5
All aboard the 5 car. Welcome. Did you ever hear of that word??? I surely have not.
Great for you both to get this word. I’m seeing a lot of chatter about this word on FB
Crazy word and it is actually slang, so I am somewhat surprised it is a legit wordle word.
Repost of SAK’s weekend outlook.
He messaged me this morning to report the heaviest t-storm cell moved over his area with house-shaking “bomb thunder” from several very close strikes. Power was out in his area.

Wow! Never heard the term bomb thunder before.
Cool.
Lots of current lightning down around Long Island.
If my eyes don’t deceive me, it is destined for areas SE of Boston. Will be monitoring.
Thank you, TK. If we had thunder, I slept through it. We did have 0.88” rain. Our overnight high was 66. Currently, we are 65/64
66 was our low and also still the current temperature.
What is the record high low remp for Boston in November. I think Pete mentioned that was 65. Is that correct or was I half asleep and got wrong.
Wordle….what can I say. NYT seems to be pulling words from its hat. I had one letter after first two guesses. By fourth guess, I had last four and then kept adding a first letter till it took. I have absolutely no idea what it means
Jumping on the 5 car with JPD and Tom
Welcome aboard. I think we all had a similar experience.
I looked it up. Interesting origin. Look it up.
According to my Google search boston’s record low for Nocember was 65 until today!!
