Thursday Forecast Update

7:32AM

Warm front takes the next 2 days to push across the Northeast. No big changes to previous forecast except to slow down the timing a little bit and keep clouds and a shower threat longer into Saturday from the warm front. Sunday looks like the pick of the weekend – a great Mother’s Day. Taste of Summer early next week before we go the other way again as a trough from the west pushes a ridge along the East Coast out of the way.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Sun filtered at times by high clouds then blotted out at times by middle clouds to the west late. Highs 60s, upper 50s coast. Wind light SE.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows around 50. Wind light SE.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs upper 50s to lower 60s. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 53. High 72.

SUNDAY – MOTHER’S DAY: Partly cloudy. Low 55. High 76.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers/thunderstorms at night. Low 58. High 80.

TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 50. High 70.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 51. High 68.

  1. Good morning and thanks TK. I still see 80 and I LIKE IT!!!

    GO BRUINS!!

Should be a great game tonight. I suspect the B’s will win. Hope so.

  2. Good morning!!! Beautiful morning!! NFL DRAFT DAY 8pm live on NFL,ESPN, and ESPN 2 starting at 7:30pm.

64.1 degrees already!! Good day everyone!! 😉

    1. Ummm, I think there is something FAR more important on another station
      tonight. 😀

Enjoy the draft while the rest of us watch Boston Beat Montreal. 😆

  3. Charlie,

who do you think the Pats take in first round ? Or, do you think they trade up or down ?

    Thanks.

    1. I have no idea, it depends who’s on the board and how teams r picking, that’s why I love it so much, if there’s not much, trade down and get 3 #2’s, but i would go Defense

      1. i would not go defense at all. we are jacked up right now. go defense next draft though. this year get a TE ,reciever and a Running back

  4. I really like the NFL draft and used to look forward to it and watch it every year since I was a kid. I think it’s the most influential draft in all the major sports since first year players can make the biggest impact. However, I hardly watch it anymore. It really become so overly commercialized and overblown that its un-watchable. It really epitomizes what is wrong with modern pro sports in the glorification of athletes and making them seem larger than life. I mean come on, pre-determined entrance music for each player as they are drafted and come onto the stage?? Really??

    1. I love it, most are bigger than life, the biggest man I’ve ever seen is Richard Seymour, you wanna see a man, WOW!!

        1. Are u serious? Your 6ft 7 inches 285lbs benched 545lb for 4 in 03. This guy is a monster 🙂

  5. And I know we all get on the athletes for thinking they are above all. But in reality, the problem isn’t the athletes, its society and the marketing of them as assets instead of human beings at a very young age even before they enter the realms of professional sports. Remember, its just a silly game, and we ALL contribute to the dysfunction it has become. Rant for the day, lol

      1. Yes I am a Cowboys fan and have been one since the early 90s when I started watching football and the Cowboys
        were winning Super Bowls.

  6. Patriots draft i believe another target for Brady. a TE or a big long Reciever for the outside and let edelmen work the inside.
they get a running back their second pick
our defenseive line got jacked up and our defense looks great. our offense on the other hand needs some big powerful recievers/TE(that stays healthy) to go up against the big corners.

Go bruins. we gotta win at least one on the road
also what wonderful weather we are having and i have no time to enjoy it… American red wing black birds. the femals have came. Saw a pair of blue jays as well.

        1. Agree, i don’t think he will be one of those QB’s who tries to play into his 40’s. He knows his limits and wouldn’t want to hurt the team with his diminished play. He’s no Favre. He has other plans for his life after football. He’ll know when to hang ’em up.

          1. Yes Acemaster him and gizzelle have sold there home in California and Tom and his family r officially new englanders, Braintree is there new home. Personally I think he becomes something inside the patriot organization 🙂

  7. Boston Harbor buoy water temp is at 47F and as of 10am, its 58F at Logan with a light seabreeze.

Slow progress being made in taking the sting out of the seabreeze.

    1. wow, at 1:50pm yesterday, after a few hrs of a SSE wind, the water temp maxed out at 50.5F.

A couple hrs later when the wind turned WSW and the top layer of water got pushed out to sea, it fell to 46F.

      1. Yup, that’s what happens.

It’s still very chilly, but honestly, it is recovering faster than
I anticipated. Bright sunny days help the most, followed by
        Warmer days. 😀

    2. Do you mean the buoy right in the harbor? OR the one
      16 nautical miles out?

Right now, Harbor buoy water temp is 46.8
The buoy 16 Nautical Miles out is at: 47.5
      And Stellwagen is at: 48.0

I like to use the buoy that is 16 Nautical Miles out as the true measurement
of what is going on. But sometimes looking at the Harbor buoy can be
      interesting.

11AM wind at Logan is EAST at 10.4 mph

We’ll see how that ocean affects the temperature this afternoon.

Eric Fisher said 55-60 right at the shore. BUT that was a high, not what
the temperature will be after hours of a sustained EAST wind.

I’m guessing by 4PM or so, Logan will be in the low 50s at best, and it wouldn’t
surprise me to see upper 40s. We shall see. While at my house in JP
it will probably touch 70 before coasting back into the 60s, perhaps ending
up in the low 60s by 4PM.

    1. Interesting discussion on Felger and Mas yesterday about hit rates in the Draft.

They analyzed the Pats drafts over the past 10 year.

They hit on 8 out of 10 (80%) 1st rounders, but dropped to
29% for 2nd rounders and something like 17% for 3rd rounders.

It was very interesting and the end result was that they think the PATS
are OUT OF THEIR MINDS to move down in the Draft. TAKE A 1st ROUNDER IF the pick is there.

      1. All depends on who is left there and is it a need. They are playing for now not the future.

        1. I suppose. They’re going to do whatever they want.
Doesn’t matter what we think. 😆

Let’s hope it helps the team.

  8. Your welcome Tom.
I would not be surprised in future model runs the best instablity shifts westward just west of SNE. It seems a lot of times in May you get a good line of storms that forms over PA and NY state and as it approaches SNE the line comes through in a much weaker form especially if wind direction comes off the water and get a stable atmosphere which thunderstorms hate.

  9. UGH with the current NAO. Why could this have not happened in the winter and we could have had a blockbuster.
Anyway starting to see some consistency with the GFS for thunderstorms on Tuesday for areas CT River Valley west. Cape and lift index values indicated show the possibility for strong storms. It still far out but something to keep an eye on.

    1. Cool!!!

Yup, I downloaded a FREE APP for the Android phone.

I’m all set. I can watch the game IF I get stuck out of the house
      tonight.

Today’s technology!! Who would have thought of this back when I was growing up. I’ve been able to see much I can tell you that!

        1. Not sure we’re going out. I’ll know after we have
          Dinner tonight.

I’ll check out the App even IF we don’t go out.

          Thanks Tom.

Your Ocean warmed up again just like yesterday, keeping Logan a milder than I expected.

As you said, it’s taking the bite out of the Sea Breeze, thankfully.

          1. Wow … 51.8F water temp.

            Another 25F and I’m in. 🙂 🙂 🙂

It is a very nice day out there. I guess CT and NYC have had a cloudy, chillier day in the 50s and have even seen some light rain.

  10. If I’m reading the models correctly, I think the GFS is starting to look like the EURO middle of next week in really slowing down the approaching cold front, keeping the east coast warm. Perhaps the EURO, as the warm season approaches, is getting a bit better in the long term ?

    1. The timing with the front will be key in determining intensity of any thunderstorms that should develop with the front.
GFS been consistent in showing CAPE and good lift for parts interior SNE for thunderstorm development.
It is miserable here today cloudy drizzle where I am in CT today.

  11. At 3PM, Logan still at 59 while about 15 miles away at Bedford it was 70.

At 1PM in JP it was 63.7 as even there we were feeling the effects of the sea breeze.

    Buoys…
    51.8 and 51.3

It’s certainly going in the RIGHT direction!!!!!

    1. Nobody cares about nfl tonight my friend as it’s all about hockey game four, trust me.

      1. Trust me john America does not care about hockey tonight lol, take it easy lol 🙂

        1. Wana make a bet, it’s not about the Nfl all the time it’s hockey right now and I’ll bet anything on that!!!!

          1. I will be you the house that America as a nation will be watching the nfl draft john, if you think the country’s watching hockey your crazy, not tonight bud, locally sure 🙂

    1. Hey not until he gives us the source for his numbers on the past 24 months being colder than normal…been waiting on those for over a week 😉

    1. Hadi look above my initial comment was wishing everyone a goodnight, not looking to disrespect anybody

  12. I know you are not but who cares about rating etc…. We live in NE and hockey is huge here.

  13. I don’t watch any draft for any sport. I am reading the draft picks on ESPN2 ticker as I flip back and forth between the hockey game and basketball game.

  14. About 75% of my friends on FB are huge NFL fans and also Bruins fans. Want to know how many of them are watching the draft tonight?

    Zero.

    Numbers don’t lie. 🙂

    1. I have no idea what your saying, I agree locally, but nationally there watching the draft, it’s a fact, look at the national ratings for both, MLB was smart to reschedule most of there games around tonight bc they knew

      1. Doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care what other ppl are watching. You seem to be the one that wants to drive home this point. Just enjoy your TV show. 🙂

  15. Watching the B’s and of course going crazy! Switching to the Draft when I can.

By the way as for TV, it is the NFL’s biggest friend and certainly it’s biggest enemy. The very medium which catapulted the NFL into its glory is the same medium that keeps the NFL brass awake at night. I will leave you with this … whether it is Hernandez, Incognito , the DUIs, domestic violence, concussions, arrests, flat ticket sales for the last decade or playoff games that do no sell out, TV has a huge problem side to it leading Goodell to publically make many-a-concerned comment about TV, knowing full well that it is a double edged sword.

It might be the subject of another post one day, but right now the Bruins are driving me crazy … as usual!

      1. These two teams have already played an OT game in game one. I said once this series started I would not be
surprised if this was a seven game series.

  16. Now a best of 3 with home ice. 🙂

I see the Pats picked an injury prone player with a lot of “potential”. I love the Pats but hey we’ll see how that works out. 🙂

Will be updating the blog probably before I retire for the evening so there will probably be a new blog posted shortly.

    1. Good pick not great IMO we will see, out of all the analyst grading them I’ve seen from B- to an A, we shall see 🙂

  17. Ok pick guy coming off double ACL surgery. Espn have it a thumbs down, high risk but high reward.

  18. Risky pick for the Pats. Any other year I would say in Bill we trust. But this is no time to be taking risks with a 1st round pick. There were plenty of other players on the board who would have been able to help the team now. I’ve heard analysis of the guy with terms like, “he won’t play every down,” or “they will use him in 3rd down situations and pressure plays.” Really Pats? You use up a 1st round pick on a one down player? Hope it works out but not feeling good about this one.

    1. No offense but probably everyone on this blog has probably never heard of him 🙂

      1. Yes I have heard of him as I am a huge football fan as well. You are not the only one 🙂

        1. Never heard of him at all.

Not that it matters one little bit, but I heard today
that he is gay. Good for the PATS!!!

I hope he really works out well.

  19. Re: Bruins

Announcer called it a “CLANGFEST” with all the posts the Bruins hit.
Amazing!! BUT, they won in the end and that is all that counts.

Never did try watching on the Android App. Another day.

I’m feeling much better about this series now.

It’s really tough playing in Montreal. Bruins played much better last night, virtually
taking Subban out of the game. Nice work, FINALLY.

Now if they could just finish off some plays.

    Home to Boston tomorrow night!

  20. Now we get a true water temperature reading.

  21. Good morning, little drizzly here

DRAFT DAY 2 should be fun, good day and Go Patriots!! 🙂

Hadi where did u hear at 6pm last night that the patriots were dropping out of 29? Dominique Easal was on my draft board but was between 25-60. Thanks

    1. My DRAFT BOARD had, let me see….

      BUD LIGHT
      SAM ADAMS
      JOHNNIE WALKER
      JIM BEAM

      😀

        1. I actually don’t drink at all, but when I did years ago, it was clearly liquor as I hated beer. 😀

    1. Charlie enough with the draft please. I love football but please enough is enough. Cool and cloudy for the day but great weekend on tap.

      1. Not much excitement going on in the weather dept these days hence the sports talk 🙂 Saturday might not be that great of a day on the whole, but sunday the pick of the weekend

    2. What is surprising is that so many Americans waste their time with that nonsense. Three days that they will never get back.

    3. Even 20+ years ago, (gee …. I’ve gotten old), I remember a few draft parties in college. The coverage back then wasnt what it is today. It was on ESPN, but it wasnt the grand production it is today. But, it is wildly popular …. even back then, some of my friends had sheets and posters to track their team’s picks.

  22. Today has been a gloomy day, enough to get work done, but enough to be soaked by the end of the day. truck temp says 56 degrees good day all 🙂

  23. Charlie, I think even you would admit the pick is a big risk and not the best pick they could have gotten for their first round pick. The biggest issue I have with it isn’t the fact the guy has a history of major knee injuries, its his position and projected usage. He will be a 3rd down/situational interior D lineman, basically to get after the opposing QB. Unless BB changes his usual defensive vanilla schemes and gets creative to get this guy some pass rushing lanes and opportunities to succeed, he will be a non-factor. He just doesnt fit the Pats defensive scheme.

    1. Valid points but remember we didn’t see him in interviews etc etc, also the cowboys had there pick at 16 and it was Dominique Easal but bc Cleveland right before them didn’t pick ol zach Martin Dallas picked him and not Easal, anyways I’ve seen them really succeed and really bomb, we will know in do time, draft picks r tougher than you think, most of these guys won’t be in the nfl in 5 yrs, a third will be 🙂 good day Acemaster 🙂

      1. I admit, i dont know the first thing about the ins and outs of drafting in the NFL and it is definitely tough. Sometimes i think the Pats make it tougher than it has to be though with picks like this one. The 1st round should be a high percentage of players that work out. This one IMO is a gamble. Interesting though about Dallas almost picking him much higher. Maybe I’m wrong! Have a good day as well Charlie 🙂

  24. I’m really struggling with groomsmen gift ideas other than the usual boring engraved mugs, money clips, flasks, etc. Anyone have any advice?

    1. Depends what their likes/interests are. So, for outside the box ideas, maybe something tailored to those interests ??

      1. Thanks Tom. I was starting to lean in that direction. I had this crazy idea to engrave old wooden boxes with their names and fill them with a couple things unique to them. Trying to keep it under $30 each since I have 7 groomsmen, lol

              1. Pinterest is a plethora of good ideas. A friend of mine got ideas galore for her son’s graduation party 🙂

  25. Quite the warm front …

Buffalo is 79F and Pittsburgh is 80F ….. at 11am ….. wonder what their high temps will be today ??????

  26. Bruins seem to only be able to score second half of the games or not until the over time…can not afford to loose at home ,

with the draft i guess you were right charlie, they decided to go defense but i high disagree with it expecially with the risk of the player. People do not just come from a acl injury not to mention two and be 100% again.
We need a big target for Brady and also a running back.
NfL draft largest draft of all sports and can very well be watched more than than hockey else where. Most patriot fans do not even pay attention to the draft because Bill usually does trades for later draft picks. i do have to say, Bruins do not have that big of a loyal fan base. Many did not start to follow them until they started to be good….Celtics same, patriots are some what like that but less so. Red sox of course has the largest loyal fan base of all the team sports in new england even when they lost and did not win for such a long time they still managed to fill up fenway. I would not think any other sport would be able to do that.
Go Bruins. and yes im one of them fans that started to watch the bruins once they started to actually do good. hate watching basketball and i watch sometimes the last 3 or 4 innings of baseball depending but always have watched the patriots since i was 5.

sorry for my rant. what lousy freakin weather we are having, it explains my mood pretty well.

  27. Here we go)!(@)(#&*()!@*#()!*@()#*!()@#*

    From Taunton NWS:

EC DROPS A BACK DOOR COLD FRONT ACROSS NEW ENGLAND ON TUESDAY. THE GFS ALSO HINTS AT THIS BUT IS NOT AS STRONG AS THE EC. BETWEEN THESE 2 FORECAST GUIDANCE…THERE IS A 20F SURFACE HIGH TEMP DIFFERENCE FOR TUESDAY. THE CANADIAN AND A FEW MEMBERS OF THE GEFS ALSO DISPLAYS THIS BACK DOOR FRONT PUSHING ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE AREA…AS WELL AS WPC.

I KNEW the warmer weather would NOT last(!*@()#*()!@*#()*!()@#*()!*@#()*

        1. I did caveat the Spring saying that the ocean would probably have a significant impact as it was running cold. Your favorite! 😉

          1. Indeed you did!!! I was actually referring to the String of 70s thrown out by Eric Fisher last night
at 11PM. I KNEW it was too good to be true.

I think Eric best get used to that REFRIGERATOR out there. 😀

            1. It usually is too good to be true.

Sometimes people get stuck in this mode that Spring = automatic warmth. I posted on FB last week comparing months of Spring and Fall about equally away from the climate mid point of Summer. It should come as no surprise that August is warmer than June, September is warmer than May, October is warmer than April, and November is warmer than March. 🙂

              1. AMEN!!

But you are a New Englander
through and through and understand this completely.

                From Eric Fisher:

“I’ve lived in New England most all of my life, and I am thrilled to return home to Massachusetts and join the outstanding team of meteorologists at WBZ-TV,” said Fisher.

I guess he was just being optimistic. He has been very good so he deserves to be cut some slack.

I think you should speak with him. 😀
