  1. Just got a district wide email from Coventry Public Schools that we are moving back to full time in person learning starting on the 28th. We have been doing hybrid the first 4 weeks with no incidents. All indicators they are using are below the State thresholds to permit safe in person learning and the case rate in this area is extremely low. Let’s hope we can keep this up!

    1. Good luck Mark. I’m not sure how they will handle it with flu and a potential second wave, but I was wondering if some schools would start doing this. Is that five days in

      1. And yes, for those not comfortable they are still offering the full remote option. But no more hybrid, at least for now.

        1. Glad your school district is doing well, as is your state.

I believe there’s no good replacement for in-person schooling, and not just the learning aspect.

At the same time, in certain districts with higher infectivity adopting hybrid or all-remote temporarily makes sense.

The Dutch have all in-person schooling, and have done so since late May. Not without problems, as there have been outbreaks and temporary school closures. But, the Dutch government is adamant about in-person schooling and mandates it across the country, with no exemptions. Teachers and administrators have protested, but to no avail. By the way, there have been deaths among teachers and administrators. Only a few, but still.

          1. Interestingly, Joshua, my oldest grand who is diagnosed with adhd and touches on the spectrum was our greatest concern. He has literally come into his own with remote. His brother much like his mom and nana, does not like school. However, as much a struggle as it is to get him to attend, his teachers are seeing a different kid and are thrilled. I know this is due in good part to his mom and dad preparing both but also to the amazing system Sutton has.

  2. Today, the U.S. moved up another spot on the death rate (deaths/million) ranking, passing the U.K. U.S. is now number 3 in the industrialized world, with only Belgium and Spain ahead.

So much for those ridiculous color-coded charts the President showed Jonathan Swan during an interview about a month ago. Even then the U.S. was in the top tier (number 6 on the ranking of 30 OECD nations). The delusional thinking that goes on in the White House is beyond the pale.

  3. Vicki, that’s very interesting regarding your grandson. I’m glad he’s found his way with the remote learning. Good to hear.

    1. Sure surprised us. But Sutton has been as exceptional as any school system I’ve experienced with regard to not only reg Ed but special Ed.
