Sunday October 18 2020 Forecast (6:38AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 18-22)

Discussion…

A cold start and a significant temperature recovery today as high pressure crests over the region. The high then slides to the east and opens the door for a more southerly air flow for the following several days, which will include several mostly failed attempts by a frontal boundary to get through the region from the west, so it’s back to a stretch of rain-free weather.

Details…

TODAY: Sunny. Highs 61-68. Wind calm, then SE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear. Fog patches in low elevation areas. Lows 43-50. Wind SE under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 63-70. Wind SE to S up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy ground fog low elevation areas. Lows 48-55. Wind S under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 50-57. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 66-73. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 62-69. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 23-27)

Stronger cold front approaches, mild air but a chance of rain showers ahead of it October 23. Cooler weather expected October 24-27. Watching low pressure south of the region from later October 24 into October 25-26 that may impact the region with some unsettled weather before drier weather and gusty winds at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 28 – NOVEMBER 1)

This is a low confidence forecast due to many potential players. Disturbance may bring rain and snow showers early in the period with a cold shot to start, then mainly dry weather with moderating temperatures following that.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

Down to 34 here for easily the coldest temperature of the season so far. I could not see any frost on the grass or car roof tops/windshields.

      1. I believe the lowest temp at Logan was 41 degrees. When I arrived at work around 6:40 my hands were actually cold for the first time since early spring.

  2. Thanks, TK…
    Happy Sunday!

29.7 was the min here. Probably lost the flowers as I didn’t bring them in.

    Friday’s “whatever-a-cane” seems to be this morning’s “not-at-all-a-cane!”

    Enjoy the day! Go Pats!

    1. Speaking of the Pats, let’s hope they actually PLAY today. Until the actual kickoff, it’s not 100% guaranteed since the league tests the players on game day. If I understand correctly with the new guidelines, a game can be cancelled and postponed at the very last minute. I heard on the news this morning that it’s still an hour-by-hour decision. Fingers crossed.

  3. Yesterday, Logan received 1.16” coming within 0.02” of tying a daily record for rainfall (1.18” set in 1989).

  4. Thanks TK.

29.3F here in Coventry this AM. Definitely the coldest morning of the season thus far. Had to break down and turn the heat on this am as the downstairs temp was down to 59!

It has recovered nicely…up to 54 now.

  5. 6z GFS may have lost that hurricane but is still looking pretty active in that period from 10/25 to about 10/29. We’ll see. Still a good 7-10 days out.

  6. This morning’s cold/calm start played a big role in a walk I took from sunrise to about 9AM at a local pond. 160 photos later….

    It was epic.

  7. I got a small chuckle from this quiz so I thought I would post it.

No, a “Blue Norther” is not a cheap beer made by Molson, but rather a weather term sometimes used to describe what?

    A. A frozen person from Minnesota
    B. A blue parka
    C. A snowflake that looks blue
    D. A strong cold front

    Answers later.

  8. Key take aways from the Patriots
    Offense.
1.When they can not get the run going the receivers can not get open. They need to get a reciever by the trade deadline.
    2. Second week in which the offense cost the patriots the game, not the defense.
    3. having only one practice this week for the patriots and the Bronco’s having all theirs makes me feel that the NFL should shut down both facilities of games that have a team dealing with covid for as equal of a playing field. Last two week of losses were largely due to covid.

    1. Here is my 2c regarding Covid:

Any players who test positive must refrain from any further team activities until a negative test. In the meantime, the rest of the team may continue team activities (i.e. practices, travel including the game itself). In other words “next man up”.

      1. Most people who become infected test positive for many weeks to months following COVID infection even though they are no longer ill or infectious. Molecular testing that is currently available many times cannot distinguish between the DNA fingerprint (live virus) and the virion’s protein fragments left behind (inactive virus) resulting in false positives for a very long time. Therefore, your thoughts of refraining from activity until testing negative is unrealistic. Once a COVID positive, asymptomatic individual quarantines for ten days and remains without symptoms, that person is no longer infectious. Likewise, when a COVID positive individual, with symptoms, quarantines for 10 days since onset of symptoms and further isolates until both fever and symptom free for a minimum of 24 hours, that individual is no longer considered contagious. Therefore, repeat testing is not necessary and very often is problematic.
