Sunday March 21 2021 Forecast (7:17AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 21-25)

This first full day of spring will feel like it – sunshine, chilly start, warming up most efficiently inland, warm-up thwarted at the coast by sea breeze. This will repeat tomorrow and Tuesday too as high pressure sits on us. This high pressure area will give way to an approaching warm front on Wednesday when clouds will increase, but it may not be much of a rainfall producer as it comes through that evening / night. What it will likely do is set us up for our warmest day regionwide (except South Coast modification) with a stronger southwesterly air flow on Thursday as we’ll be in a warm sector post warm front and pre cold front (which will be well to our west).

TODAY: Sunny. Highs 48-55 coast, 56-63 inland. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

TONIGHT: Clear. Patchy ground fog interior lower elevations. Lows 33-40. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sunny. Highs 48-55 coast, 56-63 inland. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Patchy ground fog interior lower elevations. Lows 33-40. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 49-56 coast, 57-64 inland. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear then increasing high clouds. Patchy ground fog interior lower elevations. Lows 36-43. Wind SE under 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain by late-day or evening. Highs 48-55. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain. Lows 41-48. Wind SE up to 10 MPH shifting to SW.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 45-52 Islands / Cape Cod, 53-60 remainder of South Coast, 61-68 elsewhere. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 26-30)

Low pressure passing north of the region drags a cold front through with rain showers likely March 26. Timing of systems becomes difficult out this far but best guess now is we have a mainly dry March 27-28 weekend, starting chilly and ending milder, though some guidance has suggested unsettled weather arriving before the end of the weekend so there is a little uncertainty there. March 29 looks like transition time with unsettled weather, leading to a drier but colder March 30.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 31 – APRIL 4)

(No change from yesterday.) Based on current anticipated timing of systems and being near the border of a mild US Southeast and a cold eastern Canada, expecting a dry but chilly finish to March and a warming trend the first few days of April marked by some unsettled weather during the transition.

  1. Thank you, TK. 40 degree temp drop with frost on deck table but not for long. Birds are chirping away in anticipation of a lovely day.

  2. Repeating because I posted too late last night for many to see

Wishing our Dr S a happy belated (yesterday) birthday. Hope you calibrate all over again today, Sir!!!!!!

  3. Boy, my March Madness bracket theory went right out the window!!!! I figured that there would be less upsets in the First Round because of all of the restriction in place. Ha!

I am loving the tournament and I root for the underdogs anyway!
But it’s a good thing I am a Spanish teacher and not a Las Vegas bookie!!! If my brackets were one of my final exams, I’d be repeating the course!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

What made my weekend in sports though was watching my Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team yesterday. Pitcher Jack Leiter (remember that name!!! ~ son of major leaguer Al Leiter) threw a no-hitter against South Carolina! He retired 27 in a row after walking the first batter in the first inning. 16 Ks, His 126th and last pitch of the day: 96 mph! It was only his eighth college start!

    Go ‘Dores! Anchor Down!

    1. As you probably saw me say (or maybe not), I don’t follow college b-ball but I do the pool for fun. Most years I get lucky with upsets and kick butt in the first round, sometimes the first 2 rounds. I usually drop off after that. 😛

This year, I listened to the “experts” advice on the upsets and kind of went with the majority opinion – when I should have ignored every damn word they said. 😉 I was out two final four teams and one finals team after just over a half dozen games. 😉

Go Zags! May as well pull off the undefeated season & tournament. 😉

  4. Thanks TK
    Dr. S Happy Birthday!!!
Captain March Madness living up to its name. First time ever 4 teams seeded 13 or lower make it into the round of 32. I lost a Final Four team when Texas lost.

  5. Good morning and thank you TK.

    Wide temperature swings these days.

Yesterday Here went from 26 to 61, that is a 35 degree swing,
Today is much the same, except starting out at 29. 🙂 Already up to 51.

Logan is at 54 with calm wind, so they are about to get a sea breeze and that 54 may be the high for the day.

    1. I was just telling somebody who had a forecast up for “65” today that it was not going to even get close to that at Logan … 55 tops, then falling to 40s. Not sure where they got that forecast from. If anybody hits 65 today, it will be a place like Hartford.

  6. Dr. Stupid Loyola Chicago is under 4 minutes away from keeping the Madness going. Every person I heard on tv said Loyola Chicago would not get past Illinois. My bracket will blow up if this holds up.

  7. I just don’t understand why diurnal days like today don’t generate 300 posts! Ha! Like you all get jacked up for snowstorms, these are MY days. 21 this morning 65 now. 34 degree swing. September 20, 2019 – 81-35 that was a great day a great day too!!

    1. Mine as well . I absolutely hate winter. I’m out now in shorts & t- shirt & I feel awesome , even got color today .

  8. March snowfall at Logan = 0.1”

TK – I would say the month of March was certainly a “BRACKET BUSTER” for your winter outlook especially for snowfall. Talk about a letdown. 🙁

    1. Well, yes and no…
The March pattern appeared in February. I already went over that and the reasons why. And there’s actually a scenario where Boston can get a significant snowfall in about 8 days… Not sure it happens, but it’s out there as a potential.

“Hi everyone! My name is Tuukka! Yes. 2 u’s. 2 k’s. 2 different colored eyes! This is my snow pile that my master, TK’s brother, makes for me every year during the winter. Some years it gets really tall and I love that! Every year around this time it starts to melt away. I’ve decided to make a contest to see who can guess which date it will disappear! Today is March 21st and you see that it’s just a little bit taller than I am. Put your guess for the date that it will be gone in the comments below and then we will see who is closest. I’ll ask TK to post this again so everybody who wants to gets a chance to guess! My master will let TK know what’s happening with the pile and he will post it for me. Good luck! Go Bruins!”

        1. good question, the other one is later this week, ahead of a cold front, do we get a dew point increase into the 40s to low 50s and an accompanying mild overnight. Thats what would really do any snow pile in.

          1. Hahaha. That is way more thinking than my brain can take so I’ll regress thinking the exposure isn’t north facing against woods

I’ll go with early morning 25th for nine month pre christmas santa flight

  10. That driveway is on the north slope of a hill. Same place we did this contest a handful of years ago. 🙂
