Tuesday March 22 2022 Forecast (7:39AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 22-26)

A dry, windy, and cool day is ours for today as a ridge of high pressure sits to the west and a deepening low spins across the Canadian Maritimes. These conditions also increase the risk of the rapid spread of brush fires as we have rather dry ground and are in the pre leaf-out stage of early spring – basically our fire season here in New England. The wind will relax tonight as the high pressure area moves closer and then over the region. Wednesday will be dry during the daytime but we’ll see clouds moving in ahead of an approaching low pressure system which is set to bring us unsettled weather starting Wednesday night and lasting into early Friday. This system will arrive with just enough cold air in place that we may see some snow and/or sleet over interior higher elevations before rain takes over for the remainder of the system’s duration, which will be until sometime early on Friday before its redeveloped low center moves out of the region. However, upper level low pressure over the region will limit any clearing and keep us rather unsettled into the start of the weekend as well.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 46-53. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 25-32. Wind NW diminishing to 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 45-52. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain arriving overnight but may begin as a period of sleet and/or snow interior higher elevations. Lows 32-39. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Cloudy. Rain likely. Areas of fog. Highs 45-52. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain likely. Areas of fog. Lows 38-45. Wind ENE 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Cloudy with rain and areas of fog early, then breaking clouds with a passing rain shower possible. Highs 48-55. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows 40-47. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Highs 47-54. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 27-31)

Upper level low pressure will still be over the region along with colder air with a chance of rain and snow showers March 27. Another disturbance brings the chance of some precipitation before the end of March. Temperatures below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 1-5)

Eyeing the potential for a quick warm-up in the first few days of April as the pattern may re-adjust briefly, but this remains a low confidence outlook as some of our medium range guidance continues to show cooler and somewhat unsettled weather.

  1. Thanks TK.

Hopefully no “elevation” snow for Worcester upon the next system’s arrival Wednesday night.

    B = 54.0”
    W = 53.6”

    1. On this one, if I were in the car, I’d have either …

      a) passed out or
      b) turned around and gotten the heck out of there.

  2. Texas A&M in College Station was in the path of one of the storms and the entire campus was ordered to shelters. No damage or injuries that I am aware of.

  3. Thanks TK
Vicki I saw that video last Friday on the news and I got big laugh from watching it.

        1. With a sigh and something I struggle with….I wish many things for Putin…most that I am somewhat ashamed of

  4. Today has been another really nice, early spring weather day.

I can feel the chill of the very low dewpoints, but that strong sun makes it very easy to take.

    1. Agree. I was just outside and it is lovely out. A bit of chill in the shade, but very nice for March 22!!!

    2. Still really windy but not constant like yesterday. I’ve been outside for a couple of hours. Very nice

  5. I found this really interesting version of Lou Reed’s Sweet Jane with a really long cool intro and this is Awesome in my opinion.
Classic pure ROCK! Reminds me of my college days in the 60s. I loved the Velvet Underground!

Have a listen if you have any interest. Else enjoy the beautiful day. 🙂

    1. I recently listened to a long set of his tunes at work around the time of his birthday and I believe this was among them.

        1. I wonder if either of my oldest 2 brothers did. I’ll have to ask the living one.

I know their first concert (IIRC) was Grand Funk Railroad.

  6. The difference in the 10:1 snowfall map for the Wednesday night / Thursday system between Tropical Tidbits and Pivotal Weather is absolutely hilarious.

Somewhere, somebody who doesn’t know any better (and goes by whatever TT says) thinks that central MA is getting a half foot of snow. 😉

  7. Thanks TK.

We returned from our trip to Utah late Sunday night. We spent four days there and skied at Solitude, Snowbird, and Alta. Had great weather while we were out there….mostly blue bird skies with temps in the mountains in the 30’s and low 40’s, while it hit the 50s and 60s in Sandy where we were staying (in the Valley just south of Salt Lake).

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. I snapped tons of pictures…..too many to post. Here is a sampling of a few of my favorites:

Alta – top of Supreme list looking back at Devil’s Castle (still can’t believe we actually skiied that!)

    1. I should add that the snow conditions were very good despite not having any fresh snow while we were out there. They did receive 6-10″ earlier in the week and of course, we took off from Salt Lake on Sunday in a snowstorm and the mountains received another 6-10″ from that. I can’t complain though….it was a great trip and the Wasatch mountains are spectacular. I highly recommend it if you are a skier….nothing out East even compares!

    2. Spectacular does not begin to describe how amazing your photos are. Thank you, Mark. Is that a thumbs up in photo #4.

  8. My snow guess for Boston this year was 54.1″ so if they could just get 0.1″ more on the season, I would be happy. It would be about the only number I guessed right my entire life!

    1. They can have that when Worcester gets a few inches in an end-of-March or early April event. 😉

  9. Thanks, TK.

Just got back from the UK. Not a pleasant landing at Logan, to be sure. Periodic turbulence over the Atlantic, especially near the Maritimes, but also west of Ireland.

    Great pictures, Mark.

My photos of London in spring aren’t nearly as spectacular. But, it’s kind of neat that I’ll be experiencing spring twice.

    1. Welcome home, Joshua. I’m so happy you were able to go. Sorry about the turbulence and happy for the safe landing

  10. Back to reality here. Looking at the forecast, it just looks absolutely dreadful here. Cold steady rain (touch of sleet mixed in) and then cold rain showers for 3 days. Has to be the worst weather type God ever created. It’s why I really detest `spring’ in Boston. Teaser days aside, it’s non-existent. As the British would say, full stop (in other words, let’s stop pretending we have spring when we don’t).

    1. Well that’s if you define spring as “dry, warm weather”. The reality is for many temperate zones, spring is a time of transition marked by a lot of lingering chill of winter, and unsettled weather. Somehow people have been trained to think spring is all warm sunshine and flowers, when in fact for many locations, that part of spring comes in its final few weeks – the final part of the transition. 🙂

I will disagree with you about the worst type of weather ever created though. I have always liked the entire transition, including the cold & unsettled part. 🙂
