Friday April 1 2022 Forecast (7:28AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 1-5)

An unsettled but mild start to April today as we have low pressure moving through the region, passing to our north. One cold front is coming by this morning with a variety of weather including lots of clouds, sunny breaks, areas of fog, and areas of rain showers, then we’ll settle into a sun/cloud mix, dominated by clouds, but with an additional rain shower possible this afternoon or early evening as a second cold front approaches and passes. This sets us up for a cool, breezy, dry start to the weekend for Saturday. However, a quickly-moving though weak disturbance will bring clouds and eventually the chance for some mainly light rainfall back during Sunday. High pressure builds in with fair weather returning for the start of the week, but we may see a lot of fair weather cloud development Monday then increasing high clouds ahead of the next approaching low by Tuesday…

TODAY: Lots of clouds, breaks of sun. Areas of fog this morning. Periodic rain showers this morning and an additional rain shower later in the day. Highs 55-62. Wind W increasing to 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 33-40. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusty.

SATURDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 48-55. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 35-42. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sun giving way to clouds. Spotty light rain possible afternoon. Highs 51-58. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain, favoring the South Coast. Lows 40-47. Wind variable to N 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 50-57. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 33-40. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 48-55. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 6-10)

Unsettled weather potential is highest in the April 6-8 period based on current timing and expected pattern, which will feature variable temperatures in a battle zone between southeastern US warmth and Canadian cold.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 11-15)

Overall pattern similar, typical springtime battle zone. Unsettled weather seems likely at some point, favoring mid period.

    1. Philip, my daughter and five year old granddaughter got me. They clearly know which of my buttons to push.

They came downstairs and the five year old said, “Nana, it’s snowing!” My reaction was that it is 52 degrees but darned if I didn’t look anyway.

It apparently worked with my SIL and 10 year old grandson. The 14 year old grandson just looked at his sister and said “I’m too old for this holiday!”

    1. Hmmmmmm bright blue sky here dotted with white, puffy clouds. I’ll send it your way.

Tom, did you see the question is sent you on messenger?

  1. Heavy rain just went through Quincy a little while ago.

Is it safe to bring the pansies outside again? Have we possibly had our last frost here in the urban heat island? Fingers crossed…

      1. Also, if a frost or freeze is expected, you can always just cover them with a sheet. I’ve had my entire yard covered in the past. It looks like a field of ghosts

  2. Thanks, TK.

Amy, I don’t think we’ll have a moderate frost until November. We may get a light frost, but pansies should be okay with that.

I just put away my heavy woolen sweaters until November. Still have sweaters on hand, but not of the heavy duty kind.

    1. I love the idea of putting the heavy sweaters away.

And I’ll bring the pansies out. They were purchased at Lowe’s…

      1. I wore my heavy sweater during that last cold spell. I’ll keep it available one more week as well as my shovel. Remember today’s 25th anniversary. Hard to believe it’s been that long now.

    2. Are you kidding me? Around here heavy sweaters are required through June, You are pushing your luck. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. Well, the heavy sweaters I’m talking about are REALLY heavy. Basically I’m wearing a sheep’s entire `outfit.’ I only `need’ these sweaters on really cold days. As mentioned, I am keeping other lighter sweaters readily available.

  3. My wardrobe goes from long sleeve light weight tops to short sleeve light weight tops. I don’t think I own a sweater. To JPD’s point , though, I might wear a hoodie anytime of year but on its own. No layers.

  4. My phone now has a yellow strip across the top that says whw is not secure. This does worry me. TK, is your tech person working on this

    1. I’m not sure what that issue is. If it continues to show up let me know.. It might be an issue that is related to WordPress itself and will probably be corrected by them.

For the record I’m having no issue with my phone at the moment in terms of accessing it.

Anybody else let me know if you have issues too please…

      1. I’ve seen that “not secure” here on this blog since late last fall. Never on any other site so far.

      2. I posted a while ago and suspect you missed it. It is because you are using a http and not https. Your tech person would know this. I changed over the WP blog I that I created and ran as well as all of my client websites years ago.

  5. Thanks TK. It is hard to believe 25 years ago today waking up to a foot of snow and having what would be my only April snow day.

    1. I wonder if we are “due” for an event of that nature again in the coming years, or was it one of those “once in a hundred thousand years” events?

Too bad you missed April 6-7, 1982 Jimmy. 🙂

  6. Torrential downpour with ice mixed in just moved through here in Coventry CT. 43 degrees. Most likely was hail but it was coming down so hard at one point I thought it had flipped to snow/sleet.

    1. Yikes. I see it on radar. The line is flying. It looks as if it will be just barely south of here.
