Saturday Evening Update

5:43PM

A potent but small disturbance will cross southern New England this evening with rain and snow showers, becoming mainly snow showers as it turns a little colder. Expect minor accumulation of snow at best, but snow could fall heavily in a few locations for brief periods of time, alongΒ  with gusty winds (snow squalls). This would have the capability of making roads slick for a very brief time, before quick melting due to warm ground.

High pressure will dominate with dry and chilly weather Sunday-Monday as a storm passes well south of New England. The next warm-up begins Tuesday and lasts for much of the week, along with a return to some unsettled weather at times, but no major storms.

Boston Area Forecast…

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with scattered to numerous rain and snow showers trending to just snow showers with time, along with isolated heavier snow squalls, ending by 1:00AM. Clearing overnight. Low 25-30. Wind W 10-15 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to NW.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. High 38-43. Wind NW 10-15 MPH with higher gusts.

    1. Thanks Judy! I’ll be expanding up your way on a regular basis. Most of my forecasts are generally good for southern NH anyway but I do try to get specific when we have bigger events. I have a few readers from up that way. πŸ™‚

  1. I know this event is supposed to be minor and here and there locally…but, I think it looks like the concentrated squall activity is down in northwest NJ and southwest CT.

  2. Thanks TK.

If judging by GFS the mountains look to get some snow from Thursday through Sunday. They sure need it!!

    1. How were the winters around those. I remember a 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 had snow. I’m happy to say I don’t remember either 1936 or 1937!!

      1. 2 weeks may not sound like alot but it is πŸ™‚ The Cherry blossoms are sprouting next week which is 2 weeks early

        1. Oh I know – but it’s not close to being unusual. The same flowers and buds vary most every year. However, they are now consistently a good month earlier (same flowers/same location) than they were when my kids were little and that is where the real difference is I think.

  3. I want to set the record for least snowfall this year. I didn’t go through all this suffering just to be second least….

  4. It is a glorious morning. Not a cloud in the sky, birds singing, my friend the woodpecker in the distance and a red hawk circling. I have my windows open and it feels like spring. With any luck my husband and son in law will get the weather station I got for Christmas set up and the anemometer on the roof today.
