Sunday May 7 2023 Forecast (7:05AM)

I’m writing a quick update for you today, and then I want you to get outside (f you can) and enjoy the beautiful weather today that we have in a nice mid spring pattern. A northwesterly flow today means dry and warm weather, with plenty of sun to start though clouds arrive later ahead of an approaching disturbance. Unlike the low of last week that hung around for 5 days, this one will be around for about 5 hours (ok maybe a tiny bit longer haha), with clouds and a shower threat tonight, mainly late night, before it departs and nice weather returns to us on Monday with continued warm weather. Dry weather will continue into the middle of the coming week, but we’ll bump the temperature down for Tuesday into Wednesday behind a back-door cold front and with a push of high pressure from eastern Canada, before we recover on Thursday, albeit with some clouds announcing the warmth’s return.

TODAY: Bright sun into afternoon, dimming and fading later in the day. Highs 71-78. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers late evening and overnight. Lows 51-58. Wind

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers early morning, then clearing. Highs 69-76. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 47-54. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 60-67, coolest coast. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 45-52. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 62-69. Wind E to variable up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 12-16)

Look for more clouds and a shower chance early in the period with a disturbance and frontal boundary on May 12, then high pressure bringing another nice weekend to the region for May 13-14, followed by the next disturbance with a chance of unsettled weather early the following week.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 17-21)

Overall pattern looks mainly dry during this period with variable temperatures, often dependent on wind direction.

  1. Thanks TK.

I only wish that I could get outside and enjoy today, but it will have to wait until 3:00 pm when I get off work. Oh well. 😉

    Go Celtics today!

Btw, is the game on ABC/ESPN?

  2. I took a LOT of pictures as we approached NYC at sunrise today. I will try and post all of my pictures from the trip this evening to my Google Photos page.

We just pulled into port and haven’t disembarked yet. We have tickets on the 11am Acela to head home.

    1. Have a smooth final leg of the trip!
The weather certainly is not an issue today…

  3. Good morning and thank you, TK!

68 already. Plan to attend church (virtually) on the deck.

  4. My perception is temps overachieved yesterday, maybe up to 3 or 4F ??

    If so, I’m surprised.

In the sun, the campground we are on dried out yesterday. But, in the shade, the ground is still quite wet.

Thus, the ground had a decent amount of wetness yesterday, which makes overachieving on temps surprising to me.

We were coming off days and days and days and days of either cloudiness or rain.

    1. Perfect downslope yesterday.
I had a feeling after I posted my blog that I went to low on the temperatures but I chanced it anyway. Bumps those up a bit on today’s outlook over what I had yesterday.

  5. TK, my favorite Swedish word is knäckebröd, which is a crisp bread cracker. It’s hard to describe. It’s quite popular in the Netherlands, and there they simply use the Swedish word to describe it.

  6. Amazing what being at a rehab that actually cares about rehab and not insurance money will do.

My brother’s speech has improved more this week than at any other point since his stroke recovery began.

Not that we don’t already know this, but our medical system is severely injured and needs rehab itself – a lot of it.

At least the place he is at right now is doing it right. 🙂

    1. Wonderful news, TK. Your brother is blessed to have family that loves and advocates for him. ❤️

You are so right that our medical system is broken. Our state has some of the finest hospitals in the world. I never thought I’d see it here. But what I’ve witnessed in the past few months leaves me very worried.

  7. Some searing heat in parts of the world:

Vietnam just recorded its highest ever temperature, just over 44C (111F). The record was set in the northern province of Thanh Hoa.

Thailand reported a record-equaling 44.6C in the western Mak province.

Meanwhile, down under the trend that begin in early 2022 – and carried on throughout the year – continues, with record cold and in some cases, early season snow: https://www.mthotham.com.au/

Further west, the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka recorded its highest temperature since the 1960s.

In late April, Spain recorded its hottest-ever temperature for that month, hitting 38.8C at Cordoba airport in the south of the country.

  8. Meanwhile, the relatively cool trend continues in parts of Australia. Periodically, 2022 was much cooler than normal across some parts of the continent. This has continued into 2023. Early season cold and snowfall at Hotham: https://www.mthotham.com.au/

    1. Everywhere in the world except Boston. Unreal and unfair. Maybe 2023-24 will be our turn?

      1. Except Boston? Might want to investigate a bit further. It was the La Nina SE ridge and was the entire East Coast except NNE. 🙂

Sometimes we have winters like that. 😉

        1. Well, I wouldn’t say the “entire” East Coast.

Worcester = 47.2” (shabby by “Worcester” standards maybe but quite well considering). Not to mention Ashby? with that 30-inch event, 😉

Yes, I do understand we sometimes have these type of “snowless” winters. Not the first and unfortunately not likely the last.

          1. The line was pretty sharp. Just beyond the 495 belt and N of Route 2 and snowfall was right in the neighborhood of normal to above, and then above normal across most of NNE and adjacent Canada.

It was a pretty sharp line between the haves and have-nots, but the have-nots made sense, given the persistence of the pattern.

    1. Indeed. We had hope for this, but I think the facility and the resultant mental state helps too.

They are definitely more positive with him. 🙂

  9. Imagine getting sick BECAUSE you did a Covid test!
    https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/safety-communications/do-not-use-certain-sd-biosensor-pilot-covid-19-home-tests-fda-safety-communication

“If you see signs of infection, such as fever, discharge, red eyes, or any other concerning symptoms, seek medical attention.” I would think that most people taking the test already have such symptoms are were in contact with someone with those symptoms.

At least the government-provided tests are not part of this recall.

  10. The next 12 weeks will feature more daylight hours than any other 3 month period in the year.

    1. Too bad we can’t bottle up that daylight and save some for those eventual winter dark mornings. If we ever go to year round DST, sunrise won’t occur until I go out for my mid-morning coffee break at work.

      1. Agree. That would be nice. While I don’t like heat and humidity, I love the light that summer brings.

  11. Florida Panthers are cruising towards a 2nd round victory. They’re up 3 games to none against the second seed, Maple Leafs. Panthers have won 6 straight games. That’s not easy to do in the NHL playoffs, especially against the number one and two seeds.

As I mentioned before, while the B’s didn’t exactly shine in the series they did happen to face the hottest team in hockey. Not excusing the defensive lapses, but it’s always good to put things into perspective.
