Heat Blast

7:23AM

A disturbance passes through from west northwest to east southeast this morning and a second one approaches late today producing only slight chances for showers or thunderstorms, and an even lesser one does the same thing on Sunday. Both today and Sunday will turn out hot and humid, and though it will still be hot on Saturday it will be less humid.

The heat will ease early  next week as the jet stream dips a little to the south, but a disturbance passing by on Monday may set of a few more showers and thunderstorms.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

  1. Thanks TK. Interesting how this month will go down as the first nelow normal month in almost a year, after the hot days we have had recently, the cool ones seem to be a distant memory.

  2. Thanks TK.
I think if you see a thunderstorm pop this afternoon you are unlucky today. Don’t expect severe weather should a storm fire up.

  3. Thanks TK !

Looking at the visible satellite picture, the clearing line is sharp and flying eastward….and once into the sun, the 10am obs show rapid warming. Upper 70s to near 80F western New England, westward. Even the summit of Mt. Washington, in the sun, is reporting 57.9F and climbing rather quickly.

  4. If we can get a strong enough updraft going somewhere in western or central MA, parts of VT and western NH, and parts of CT may see something pop in the next hour or so.

  5. Back from the beach to find…..

One intense cluster of storms in Ohio/West Virginia region. Wonder if it will be classified as a derecho ?

A line of cumulus clouds to our north and the Taunton radar showing something similar to a Seabreeze, except it runs from Worcester, along the Mass Pike, to just north of Boston. I think it’s a dry line, because north of it, dew points are in the low 50s and south of it, they are 65 to 70F.

12z EURO has another run, consistent with its 0z run, of the heat surging back sometime late next week.

The seabreezes today really helped to bring in the warm water. A few decent sets of waves every once in a while added to the fun.

    1. I cant believe it. We ate dinner outside at 6:30. It was HHH. I just read your post The DP is 47 here according to wundergroud. I went out. Breeze and warm but humidity gone. Thanks tom. Nice of you to arrange. We are literally just north of the pike.

        1. 🙂 well, enjoy ! That line of cumulus clouds is producing a beautiful sunset on the northern and northwest horizon……I keep checking the radar to see if anything will pop, but nothing yet. It’s an amazing change, enough to show up on the radar.

    1. Maybe they want June’s monthly temp avg to finish above normal :). To tell you the truth, I don’t think 99F would do it at Logan.

    1. Excellent to hear ! Enjoy the rest of your summer and if I can give you one piece of advice, it’s to be ready once the year starts out. As with all meteorology programs, academically, they are challenging and I know initially, I didn’t give my best effort and it wasn’t a pretty first trimester GPA that resulted.

      1. Yeah I have to completely get rid of that senioritis I built up last year. I may be put on a 5 year plan, we’ll see. I will definitely give it my all.

        1. That’s what I should have done……but, at the time I insisted on being in calculus instead of pre-calculus and of course, calculus didn’t go very well….

Well, glad it went well. After a few months, I really got to enjoy the beautiful scenery and quiet of the Northeast Kingdom. Assuming the climate hasn’t warmed too much in all these years, it snowed the first week of October, an inch or two, on Columbus Day Weekend up there. Totally different climate.

          1. I love the fact that they get way more snow than the Boston area, hope it doesn’t get too overwhelming!
I’m guessing you eventually transferred to Lowell?

            1. Yes….actually ended up with a degree in finance (accounting) and eventually found a path to teaching…..so, it all worked out for the best……….and still get to follow the weather on a daily basis.

              1. I hope I don’t change paths during my college years, I don’t think I would want to major in anything other than atmospheric sciences. It’s also the main reason I’m going there. If I can find myself doing something along the lines of being a winter weather expert, I’d be very happy. Also just touching on the idea of going to grad school, but I’ll just take it one year at a time.

  6. Scott,
Please keep us updated on your journey at LSC. You are doing what a lot of us wish we did. Make the most of it and remember the little people ten years from now when you replace Barry Burbank 🙂

  7. What a derecho that traveled from the midwest to the Mid Atlantic. A lot of wind damage reports from it and a lot of people without power. I would not want to be without power with highs in the 90s to near the century mark in the Mid Atlantic today.
Right now it looks like the next MCS will miss us to the south tonight.

    1. JJ what is a derecho? I’ll have to go see what happened.

It is a spectacular morning – another top 10 out of maybe 150 now 🙂 Kids have headed to the beach – early – and hoping not to find that seaweed. Tom, do you know if it’s affected Brant Rock/Humarock/Rexhame areas?

      1. Rexhame had clear water and no sign of seaweed at all. It is over by the Green Harbor area. I’m guessing where Rexhame was clear, that most likely Humarock is clear as well.
