I believe that cuts at NOAA could hurt us all. The agency monitors climate change and seasonal changes … hurricanes and tornados … and daily forecasts. The agency warns us about tsunamis, avalanches, the weather at sea, and it monitors weather in space and takes care of fisheries and sanctuaries. Staffing cuts could put the safety of Americans at risk.
As I understand it, NOAA will lose approximately 1,000 jobs. It is not as Draconian as what is happening in other agencies. Some of the cuts too can be addressed through normal attrition and retirements. Still it’s a serious hit and entails real risk. I feel badly for the 1,000 people! Hopefully some will be rehired and others will come back as contractors.
Just for the record, NOAA has officially been in existence since 1970, but its very beginnings go back to the early 1800’s.
Thank you, Longshot. I know the plan is to privatize which M in control but every bit of this is illegal.
The reality is M and T do not have the legal authority to fire or cut funds. Congress as I am sure you know has appropriated funds. It is the duty of the POTUS to uphold the oath he swore to uphold our constitution.
Even when ordered by the courts to rehire, T is not complying.
