Have not read whether this also applies to the NOAA, but I assume it would.
HOWEVER, as the judge notes in his ruling, the executive branch can fire people from agencies under its command. But the Trump administration didn’t follow the correct procedures, blatantly violating them each time. In some cases, it overstepped legislative laws and rules. In others, it violated administrative protocol.
This sounds like Trump I redux. Some gross incompetence and lots of chaos when it comes to carrying out executive branch orders, in the first administration and now during the second rodeo. An orderly and by-the-book process would have been better for everyone involved, including Trump. But I don’t think Trump likes stability or quietude. He wants to come in all guns blazing, wreak havoc, be the center of attention, and see where the chips fall. In every single executive order of his that I’ve analyzed in depth pertaining to healthcare (some of which I actually agreed with, like the ones on insurance companies and PBMs), I see the same pattern.
I don’t believe the cuts are for the purpose of efficiency. M is overstating the amount saved by tens of millions. In good part the cuts are to bring agencies to their knees and ultimately privatize them.
Agree. This is not about efficiency. Frankly, the agencies being cut the most thus far are probably the most efficient (least costly) to the government and taxpayer. Trimming by a few hundred million here and there isn’t going to cut it. This is why I do think Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will be cut significantly. That’s where there is a ton of money to be `saved.’ I am not for cutting these programs. But I think they’re going under the knife.
I certainly hope not. I received my first ever Social Security check last month.
Medicare is remarkably efficient compared to private insurance companies. Medicare advantage is a different animal and needs reform or to be done away with. My dad had Medicaid in his last years. It was efficient too but I was not as familiar with that. Where is the waste in SS?
Yes. Medicare is very efficient compared to commercial insurance. In fact, it is LESS bureaucratic than private insurance. By the way, I have always wondered why we in the U.S. complain so vociferously about government bureaucracy but not private corporation bureaucracy. Personally, I’m often more annoyed with the hoops that private corporations put consumers through – getting coverage from your insurance company (auto, health, life, home); canceling a subscription; speaking to an actual customer representative; getting a refund, etc … – than I am the hoops government puts consumers through.
Social security is not an entitlement. It’s what we paid into. The government has no right to take that away.
However, there’s a ton of money the government could save by uprooting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. This is why the misnamed DOGE will target these programs.

“As you may know, Lee Zeldin (former Congressman; staunch Trump ally) is the EPA Administrator. He cites “climate change” as a “religion.””
Not sure yet whether this means nws/noaa but would think it does. It’s firings are as illegal as all others.
