Saturday Forecast Update

1:14PM

Sea breeze today. Storms can fire up near the boundary of this sea breeze (mainly south, west, and northwest of Boston) and further west in the heat (air mass storms). Any storms that form today will likely be non-severe but can produce flash flooding where they occur, as they will be slow-moving storms that rain themselves out nearly in place at times. Most areas will see little or nothing.

Tonight, any activity quiets down with no solar heating to be had. The air mass will be warm and muggy.

Sunday will be a dry day. No storms are likely to form during the day save for a slight risk of a pop up isolated storm over the hilly terrain. The main action will approach late at night from the west, with a cold front. The timing of this front, late Sunday night and early Monday, will probably eliminate the threat of severe weather and may significantly limit thunderstorms overall. We will probably see a nasty squall line coming out of NY State late Sunday evening that will then begin to weaken as it makes the trip across New England. I’ll keep an eye on any activity, in case.

Once we get that front by on Monday, it looks like a couple of warm and more comfortable August days heading into the middle of next week.

Updated forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

  1. Thanks TK for the update. A brief shower around 1:00 pm here in Dorchester…not sure about other areas of Boston. I am going to be out shortly into this evening so I will definitely take my umbrella just in case.

    1. I saw that little pop-up on satellite first. Could see the cloud from my house to the north of Boston. I think that’s it for that area.

  2. I start my running journey again in about 5 minutes. I have not run since the 2007 boston marathon. It was time for me to make some lifestyle changes.

    1. A colleague and myself were discussing where things were going to pop today. By late morning, the cumulus clouds on the visible satellite were a clue. The storms have popped exactly where expected. And some slow-moving flash flooders, thankfully only isolated so far.

  3. Thanks TK !

Last reported ob at Marshfield was 84F with a dewpoint of 75F. For sure, there have been hotter days this summer, but I think today is the most uncomfortable feeling day so far.

    1. Taking the dew point into account, you are right. We have had higher heat but with lower dew point readings.

  4. Thanks TK. One of the two hottest days to me. High 93.6 with dp 73 earlier. Oppressive is putting it mildly. I worry about those without AC. Our window ACs are struggling to keep house comfortable

    1. Our AC is struggling, too. I’m happy for those who enjoy this weather but I can’t wait for fall and winter!

  5. I’m so very happy that summer is over 🙂 this doesn’t mean I don’t like comfortable weather, it’s just that from Sept-Dec is the best time in NE, Football, weather cools down in 2-3 weeks, and football haha 🙂

    1. charlie I agree with you about football but I disagree that summer is over.I also do not know why people hate summer and also winter so much . I must be the strange one for liking both seasons. I hate early spring that is about it. I hope everyone relizes that snow is crucial for most of the countries agriculture.

        1. I get what you are saying Charlie. And I’m very excited for football – nothing to do with seasons

        2. The one and only thing that is good about the end of summer is the start of football, that is it period. And as far as this summer goes there is plenty left.

          1. well i like the bike races that are in september usually the most comfortable and the football and can not wait for college marching band. just I am not wanting this summer weather to end either. Its been one of the best for a while and after the winter. we needed an average summer

      1. Thank you. I know you enjoy this weather as much as me. Summer has so much to offer. And folks seem more happier this season than all the others. Heading down the center now for a nice ice cream on a hot night. Fun tonight but not during the winter. Tomorrow my son and i will be at the red sox game.

        1. sounds good my family going to the beach tomorrow but i will be staying home. It will be to much for my ankle my parents say 🙁 stupid moderate sprain!

  6. I always look towards the end of August when the high temps start to stay in the 70’s. I remember being in the white mountains on labor day and seeing some patches of color in a few areas.

If I had to rate the seasons for my self it would be:
    1. St. Patrick’s Day 🙂
    2. Fall
    3. Winter
    4. Spring (depending on the winter)
    5. Summer (Summer sun is brutal on my fair skin)

    1. lets see the order of all of the seasons.
      Mine is
      1.summer and winter are tied
      3fall
      4 spring.

      1. I’d rate each season as special but to me there is nothing that beats Christmas with Halloween and thanksgiving preceding it. Has nothing to do with seasons because I would feel that way if we lived in south Africa. I love tracking t storms but I love snow storms perhaps a bit more because they last longer. I also love
Looking forward to the smell of autumn and spring

  7. i can here the thunderstorms to the north and west and wow it has gotten dark.Seeing radar I am in for a treat .

      1. the thunderstorms did both they moved west then slowed way down.and started to move east southeast but really never got any where. we had a few sprinkles with some intense thunder and lightning. with some wind but not much. it is stil cloudy to the north and west.

My ankle is doing better than it was sunday of last week… i never even seen the cast that they put on it before. Its a mix of bandages and a brace. but really erritating when i want to take a shower since i have to cover it whith a bag and the fact they say do not put any pressure on it also annoys the hell out of me. these crutches stink. they say i will be able to get off the crutches if everything goes well . My next check up is on tuesday. Hopefully i will be ready for the regular ankle brace. in that case i will just have the brace and some ankle bandages underneath the brace. In that case i will be able to go back in the pool. I injured myself before but never so bad that i needed to go to the hospital. This ankle has always bothered me. I have always been doing something to it. this time it was bigger than usual.

        1. the number one reason it annoys the heck out of me is because i have not been able to do anything all week.

          1. Matt I sure understand where you are coming from. I had to use crutches just once and they were miserable. I hope your ankle heals just right this time so you don’t have to do this again!

    1. Hey John…I am hoping to enjoy this great summer weather tomorrow night on the patio at Oliveira’s. 🙂

      1. Cool. I would say come over but will not be here. Girls night, or you and your husband. Enjoy. I am not far at all from there.

        1. Girls night tomorrow at Oliveria’s. 🙂 And yes, we frequent Benny’s. Most of my boys’ beach toys are purchased there. Love that little store.

          1. Benny’s is this funny little store that has toys, bikes, fishing gear, camping gear, hardware, and you just never know what else. It is in North Plymouth on Route 3A.

  8. Haha in my eyes like I stated about summer is 2-3 weeks from being over, nights will tend to cut back a few degrees at night, just from the daylight perspectave alone they r more than an hr shorter than 6 weeks ago, but yes I’m already thinking fall, if you think about it in just 3 weeks days will be an additional hr shorter, it wont be long 🙂

  9. I know there are some pats fans on here so i found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plPSpdEgiy0
We made it to the super bowl last year with the second worse defense now with a new members of the defense that will improve it. Also we have old members of the dyanasty team coming back for deep threats of the offense. so those ,welker, the tightends and Brady its going to be a good year. I can not wait for preseason.

    1. We were what ? #1 rated in our league and #2 in both. Where is my son on law when I need him. I am so looking forward to football

  10. Pats should be very good this year!!

Charlie what you think if RGIII ? I am excited beyond belief for him!!

    1. i wonder how the two qb rookies will do and i wonder how Manning will do with the Broncos. it was a jerk move what the colts did to him

  11. It looks like a nice day tomorrow to get stuff down after returning from vacation before some rainfall moves in during the overnight hours into Monday morning. Thankfully the front is coming through after we lose the daytime heating.

  12. I think you meant to say O-line. D line is very good with Orapko and Kerrigan.
I just want a playoff game:). Tough division we are in!

  13. Hi Vicki… I had a great vacation. The humidity was not off the charts down there and compared to some years I was in Virginia with highs in the upper 90s low 100s upper 80s and lows 90s felt cool. It rained a little bit Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Speaking of rain it looks like were going to be getting some tonight into tomorrow morning along with the possiblity of stroms.
I don’t see severe weather for most of SNE should storms develop so only going with a 1. Extreme western portions to me have a shot at seeing a locally severe storm so going with a 2 there.

    1. JJ glad you had a nice time. VA is a gorgeous state. I have friend who live in S NH who just bought a home there. They thought winters would be a bit more retirement friendly. Do you drive down 95? We used to go down 302 (or is it 301) and over the bay bridge by Annapolis and it was a nice drive. Or even nicer we’d go down through PA

I was wondering what your rating for today’s storms would be. Thanks

  14. A couple days in advance the extensive low clouds this morning were nailed by “Futurecast”. 😉

  15. I like the highs for this week TK. I would like very much to get the ACs off and open windows and enjoy the summer air in the house. I’m just not a fan of AC especially at night while sleeping.

    1. We are really only going to have about a 48 to 60 hour stretch this coming week where it isn’t “August humid”. We never really get a push of fresh Canadian air, but more a glancing blow of it. Still, no big heat in the coming week.

Today, in fact, will not be as hot as yesterday was over inland areas. Lots of lower 90s yesterday and many of these areas will reach the middle 80s today. Lots of low clouds and a southerly wind will hold temps down a bit. The coast will end up warmer, as yesterday’s wind was more off the ocean, today it will have a bit more component over land. But not hot at the coast today by any stretch either.

      1. shhhhhhh – it’s always a good thing to let me be delusional for a few days 🙂 Just kidding and thanks TK

Windy here as you said and temp is already 85 – haven’t checked DP and may not. Sometimes better not to know. Do not have AC’s on yet but do have windows closed and ceiling fans on. Lots of clouds.

Friend in New Ipswich NH who is a weather bug said they had 5 hours of training thunderstorms last night. 1.75 inch of rain although she was hoping for more.

    1. I’d be nervous if this was an 84 or less hour forecast.

384? The GFS will do this about 25 times between now and November. And most if not all of them will not come close to verifying. 🙂

      1. I agree but I think if we were going to get hit by a hurricane we would see it 300 plus hours rather than just appearing on the models with in 90 hours.

        1. It depends. The GFS, though improved with tropical forecasting, is still iffy at best out beyond a few days.

Let’s have a little fun and track what the GFS says for August 21 between now and then, and then see what the final result is. 🙂

          1. Ok – you guys track – do you want me to try to capture each post re tracking in one document and then post it so at the end you can see how it went

        2. I know it’s exciting to track hurricane but my family has promised to ship me home from Humarock to avoid a third year of my constant talking about where the storm (Earl? Irene?) is headed. Tom’s wife may ship him somewhere too.

    2. IT better stay out to sea. better not go any where near us unless it brings us a normal winter.

  16. Im noticing a little cool down after Mon, with consistent los between 55-60 degrees next week 🙂 is this the start of fall

      1. If I get a 59 here everyone will here about it, and I think we will next week for lows 🙂 I don’t think I’m delusional, I’ve actually been told I’m borderline genius so take it how ya want 🙂

        1. Charlie was meant in fun – if you see above I referred to myself as delusional ……………… I find focus on extremes only makes a person uncomfortable because it convinces your mind. I don’t mind extreme hot or extreme cold because I don’t dwell on it – hence delusional (one word for it). However, extreme hot is a bit more of a challenge for me than extreme cold since IMHO you can always get warm but not always get cool.

Also works in many other ways in life 🙂 Keeps you smiling too 🙂 try it if you have not.

      2. Well I don’t know. I thought Charlie was delusional about the winter but he ended up being right. hahaha! 😀

    1. Me too. Guess I need to explain that to me delusional is a good thing. Id never say anything negative about anyone. To me it’s a way to always look for the positive. Negatives always exist but I don’t like to dwell on them so fool or delude my mind into ignoring them. Sorry if it came across as an insult Charlie.
