Sunday June 22 2025 Forecast (8:16AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 22-26)

The remains of a mesoscale convective system (MCS) bring showers and a possible thunderstorm to our region this morning (the bigger storms have occurred in NY State, west of the WHW region). After the main area moves out, there’s only a slight chance an isolated shower or storm can fire up, but otherwise the trend is for dry weather, increased humidity, but clearing and heating up as we head through the afternoon. The rain-cooled air and residual cloud cover will modify temperature maxima from what they’d have been in full-sun conditions, but you’ll still feel it by later on today. Monday’s and Tuesday’s weather is full on summertime, but Monday’s weak wind field leaves the coast open to a decent sea breeze on Monday, preventing it from getting too hot there. Always important to watch for a collapse of the sea-breeze at the coast late-day and a quick temperature rise. It’s less likely that sea breeze will be a factor Tuesday – though a few localized ones can occur, and Cape Cod of course will be cooler than much of the remainder of the region, as is typical. A back-door cold front cools the entire region down Wednesday, but right now I think this takes place with dry weather. It is Thursday that the front hanging not far to our southwest and a disturbance in the region when we can see a few showers and thunderstorms develop.

TODAY: Mainly cloudy through mid morning including widespread showers and a possible thunderstorm. Partial sun with an additional isolated thunderstorm possible midday. Mostly sunny remainder of day. Highs 83-90 except 75-82 some coastal areas. Dew point rising through 60s. Wind variable, mainly S 5-15 MPH early then variable to N.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog. Lows 66-73. Dew point 65+. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 86-93 inland, 78-85 coast. Dew point 65+. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes developing.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Lows 67-74. Dew point 66+. Wind variable to SW up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 91-98 but considerably cooler South Coast, and possibly cooler eastern coastal areas. Dew point 65+. Wind W up to 10 MPH with an immediate coastal sea breeze potential.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Lows 70-77. Dew point 65+. Wind W up to 10 MPH shifting to N.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 78-85. Dew point 60+. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 63-70. Dew point 60+. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs 75-82, cooler coast. Dew point 60+. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 27 – JULY 1)

A frontal boundary nearby will gradually wash out while a few disturbances pass by at times in the final several days of June – bringing an occasional shower and thunderstorm threat, with a slow drying trend toward the start of July.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 2-6)

Overall trend is upper level west to northwest flow but surface high pressure mostly dominant. While there may be a brief shower or t-storm threat a time or two, this pattern is mainly dry and seasonably warm overall.

  1. Thank you TK. Got caught in a small shower while walking the shore. Thinking I could reach 86F today.

  2. Tomorrow is going to be one of those days where Logan is in the 70s for much of the day thanks to the seabreeze, then at 5pm the wind switches to SW and they jump to 88.

  3. Good morning and thank you TK.

Showered here some, but not all that much.

<u new lightning detector detected a few strikes in the
24-40 mile range, but NOTHING close at all and at that they were only now and then and not constant.

    1. Got auditory alert (a nice beep) and then an led would light up according to the distance away the strike was. Really nice.

  4. Boy I absolutely need a dry Saturday please . Crew is taking a road trip for a big job .

  5. I just got back from a one hour walk. It was interesting feeling the change in that time. It was still showering a little when I left and the temp was 68. Now it’s mostly sunny and 78.

    1. Cool. I love turtles.
It looks almost like an Eastern Painted turtle, but the colors aren’t quite there. What kind of turtle is it?
Do you reside close to water?

  6. Wordle stumped me today. 1st time I couldn’t solve it.

Was not familiar with today’s word. I would not have guessed it in 100 years. 🙂

  7. Sun is out here and the temperature is on the rise. How high will it go, that is today’s question.

  8. Last night my 8 year old Samsung S9 phone just up an died.
It was 87% charged and I was using the phone when it just shut off and went dark and stayed that no matter what I did. I google ways to deal with it. NOPE. IT is truly DEAD!!!

I guess it reached its end of life. Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow AM at 10. Friends and relatives are invited.
sob sob sob I will miss it dearly.

I guess I visit the T-Mobile store and get a new one and let them add a few dollars to the monthly bill. Don’t feel like laying out $1,000 right now as my job is uncertain depending one he final Federal Budget.

If anyone has ideas how to resolve this, I am all ears. Thank you.

  9. Model consensus “appears” to be about 97-100 for high temperature on Tuesday.

I only saw the ICON with a 100 reading. All others were
97,98 or 99. Looks like they have adjusted some.

  10. JPD – I’m glad that you asked about the turtle species. I looked into it and it’s a Blanding’s Turtle, which is threatened in MA. Luckily, the photo I took shows enough of the underside of the neck to see the identifying yellow. Also, the eggs look just like the photos I see online.

    https://www.mass.gov/info-details/blandings-turtle

We have lots of wetlands on and around our property. It’s interesting that the eggs were placed in a hole right next to the driveway when there’s so much available space elsewhere.

    1. I can see how one mistake that turtle for an Eastern Painted turtle as they are somewhat similar but different to the trained eye.

Here are some images of each, blandings on top and painted on the bottom. The underside of the neck is the SURE identifier.

      https://ibb.co/C5XZwTQb

As a kid I think I witnessed both, but thinking they were both
      “sun turtles” (Eastern Painted turtle).

      1. The sad thing is that I photographed the adult just a few days ago. It appears that she laid the eggs in that spot and the nest was raided last night.

“A wide variety of animals prey on turtle eggs. Predators include mammals like raccoons, foxes, coyotes, dogs, skunks, opossums, weasels, and badgers.”

  11. In the WHW ZONE as of 11:00 a.m., only Norwood (81) and Fitchburgh (83) have surpassed 80. Norwood impressively with very little sun up to that point. The blowtorch gnomes were out. 😉 Everywhere else in the 70s. This is the slow start I talked about. Now, we’ll see how high things can get pushed with a mostly sunny sky the rest of the day, and it’s the latest sunsets, so we do maximize the solar impact a bit more. The places above 80 now obviously have the greatest chance of going to the lower 90s.

My updated guess for Logan, because I don’t think they will really sea breeze fully, is 88. A 90 there would not floor me, but I’m keeping them just under.

SAK mentioned earlier that Logan could go to the upper 80s tomorrow after being held in the 70s by a sea breeze. If we lose that ocean breeze at day’s end, which we see many times, this is very possible.

I think 90+ for Logan for Tuesday is pretty much a lock. That should also be the last 90 degree day for the month as I see it now (yes I realize that’s a bit of a stretch, but I don’t see a pattern that supports higher heat most certainly from mid to late week. We’ll see what happens on the final weekend of the month and the final day of the month (Monday June 30). But for now I’ll say no more 90s at Boston after Tuesday for June.

Mark it down and score me!

    1. You have not failed yet, but not looking good. You may get floored yet. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  12. Thanks, TK…

Dave, a quick Google search reveals a place called “JP Wireless” (phone repair) at 319 Centre St. (617) 942-2160. It has three, 5-star reviews (out of 3). Maybe they can help.

I will hold off sending flowers.

My best to you and Mrs. OS during the next couple of days.

    1. Thanks Capt. Appreciate it.
That address would place that shop very close to the T-Mobile Store, which is at 315 Centre Street. Both about 1 1/2 miles from my house. 🙂

  13. Logan is up to 82 with a SW wind at 17MPH. With many hours of bright sunshine, I think Logan does, indeed, make 90+.
We shall see just how high it goes.

    1. Wishing your wife the best old salty through this heat . I absolutely love it the hotter the better but I respect the folks who don’t do well in heat ! Stay cool my friend .

      1. Thanks SSK. we have the air conditioners which help, but they only cool 1/2 the house.
Going to be a MISERABLE 3 days here and watch the BDF be late arriving Wednesday. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  14. Logan now 86 with Norwood at 87.

Logan wind WSW at 12 with gusts to 20.
that will allow for some serious heating!

Just a bit after Noon with I’d say 4 hours of solid heating ahead.
Honestly, I don’t see how Logan could miss 90. Surely will make 92-94 or something like that. Watching…..

    1. It’s gonna be a hunnert! Key here is wind direction. I was banking on a temporary SSE to SE flow from air spread behind the meso remains, but it was not strong enough. We got SW wind sooner. It’s going to shift to NW or N soon, but that’s still pretty warm for Logan in this air mass.

        1. I was totally kidding. They are not getting to 100 today, or Tuesday. 🙂

          1. Not today, but I would not totally discount Tuesday.
Sure, likely not, but it is still in the realm of possibility.

      1. Indeed and WSW ain’t too shabby on the heat either.
I think we over achieve today. 🙂
Started out very slowly and then took off!

    1. I mean Boston is running a little behind on hot weather this season so far, so …. play a little catch up I guess!

  15. Norwood, Hartford, and Windsor Locks have joined the 90 club.

and it is 88 all they way up in Concord, NH.

    1. Hit it at 12:30. The wind did it. Same wind that’s actually quite ventilating. It’s at least moving the air around!

  16. So I said 88 top for Logan. They are 90 (and still likely to go up more). Here’s why, and this is a good reason to look at why a short term detailed forecast can go wrong.

I forecast a temporarily SE wind post MCS remnants, lingering cloud cover, rain-cooled air, and then a wind shift to a more northerly direction, which was shown on a lot of the short range guidance. My reasoning there was for upper 80s as a maximum.

What really happened: No SE wind post MCS remnants. Sun became full about 1 hour earlier than I thought. Wind, southwest at first, then WEST, gusting as high as 24 MPH, and if you look at the dew point at Logan it’s gone DOWN 4 degrees in the past few hours. What does that tell you? HEAT IT UP!

I did not forecast a west wind gusting 20+ and the air drying out (even slightly) in the short term. And this is why it’s going over 90 and not topping off in the upper 80s. Good luck getting those right all the time. 😉

  17. Logan now 91 as is Norwood, Hartford, Windsor locks, Chicopee and Westfield.

Logan WEST wind at 20 MPH. Did someone say HEAT IT UP????

    🙂

Just installed another AC. A bit of a rest and will tackle the next one.

  18. FWIW, the 12Z Euro has Logan at 91 for 2PM. Almost spot on.

Tomorrow hard to tell. It has 96 then 93 a mere few miles inland.
About 82 right at the water. Sea breeze does NOT look as potent
    as on previous runs.

    and Tuesday

    an even 100.

  19. Maybe I’m seeing things, but on the 12z runs, Wednesday is looking quite hot, 85-90F at the coast and mid 90s inland, including the Merrimack valley and southern NH.

  20. It’s not out of the question, this could be the strongest 500 mb ridge of the warm season for the northeast or at least where it’s positioned.

Possible a 597 dm Atlantic ridge Bermuda High sets up to our southeast later in the summer.

  21. Thanks TK. Up to 88F here in Coventry on my Ambient with dewpoint of 72.5 and “feels like” of 94.3

Only 0.11” in the rain gauge this morning from that vicious MCS!

    1. Of course it was forecast to pass by as a decaying system, not a full strength MCS. 🙂

  22. Anyone for under 70F for a high temp around next Friday/Saturday, especially eastern Mass with a potentially decent marine layer breeze from the E or SE ?? Of course 🙂 🙂 🙂

  23. Why is Boston one of the warmest spots in SNE? Again. All about the exact wind direction. Latest ob it’s WSW but for a few hours now it’s been straight west, gusting above 20 MPH.

No doubt this is related to a relative area of low pressure created by the MCS. My earlier statement of an expected northerly wind was not quite accurate. Along with the other factors mentioned. Made all the difference. Dew point has crept up a couple to 68 at the airport since the wind went to WSW. Ob string said they hit 93, but so far the official max is 92.

    1. I wish Boston would be one of the “snowiest” spots in SNE, during the winter of course. ❄️ 🙂

Like that would ever happen… 😉

  24. Lots of posts. I didn’t go up far enough to see if wordle was mentioned. I was stumped after three guesses at midnight so left till just a bit ago. I did get in four but my third guess was my evil side showing thru. Anyone who remembers the letters might guess it. I had three letters at the time.

      1. When I entered it and it took, I was surprised it took. I kind of know the words but I’d tried so many different combinations that I thought what the heck.

  25. All ACs are installed. Now cooling 1/2 the house. Not perfect, but we’re making it work. All set for the rest of today and the next 2-3 days.

NOT liking what Tom posted for Wednesday. Could this stretch into yet another day?????? Say it ain’t so!!!

  26. Logan 93, Marshfield 93 and Norwood 94.

    I’d say a pretty hot day all-in-all!!!!

  27. TK – Does Boston (Logan) reach “heat wave” status during this week?

I always assume the neighborhoods are a lock!

    1. Since they got 90+ today, I think the answer is … no.

Right now I like 70s most of tomorrow, and an end of day jump to 80+, upon the collapse of the season breeze.

Tuesday they got it for 2 out of 3.

      1. it might touch 90 tomorrow as it is a possibility even if not likely. We shall see. I expect about 95 here.

  28. Say it ain’t so. Hoping that Wednesday is cooler day. Is this just a cruel joke or the models going haywire?

  29. It looks like we won’t quite make 90F here. The two nearest weather stations both report a high of 89F between 2:00 and 2:30.

  30. Weather bug saying 90 in pembroke now but I don’t buy it , got pretty breezy and Boston was hotter

      1. Oh my , sure did not feel that hot , thank you . I definitely noticed it was much hotter at work vs home .

  31. 95.5 earlier. 83.5 now.

    Just got in from watering.
A nice night, but very stuffy. No wind at all.

    Philip (and others):

Thanks for your kind words on my retirement yesterday. I am sorry that I did not get back to you. I am forever on a seven-second delay. 🙂

I did have a retirement get-together with my current and many of my former World Language teachers on the Thursday holiday last. All of my department leaders, including the person who hired me in 2002, came. A few of my colleagues from my Catholic school days (1983-2002) also were there.

A very special guest was Sue. She was a part of a student exchange, involving a school from Igualada, Catalunya, Spain, that I help organize in 1998. Sue taught middle school Spanish in Salem MA this past year on a teacher exchange program. Sean was part of the same student program 27 years ago. He was a Spanish student of mine at the Catholic school that I taught at. Sean ended up teaching Spanish with me at Middleborough High for 20 years and became my boss!!!

Sue and Sean met each other in 1998 as part the student exchange and were reunited last Thursday at my retirement party.

    I am truly blessed.

    1. You sure deserve to be celebrated. I know many will miss you but many more will have fond memories of being in your classss. I am beyond happy for you.

  32. Concerned some about folks in the Merrimack Valley, CT river valley who are without AC.

They are likely looking at 95, 100 and maybe 93 the next 3 days, in the low 70s eventually tonight, mid 70s tomorrow night and low-mid 70s Tuesday night.

I know when my house is very warm and it’s down to say 65-70F outside, it’s hard to get the house to cool off and this is going to be a lot warmer if we try to cool it off with all windows open.

  33. Holds it at 100F for a few hrs as perhaps the warmest of the air above passes by at midday.

Oh, it doesn’t drop very much at 850mb, but any slight drop can keep the thermometer from edging up to 102 or 103F.

  34. Dps rising back to 65-70F Tuesday evening near sunset with temps falling back to 85-90F. Per the just completed 00z HRRR run.

    1. Hmmmm. Aren’t you the bearer of happy news. 😉 😉 😉

Just kidding. You know I adore you and love seeing your thoughts.

A friend in Concord NH says her DP is still 69

  35. I hope you all are enjoying the summer weather. I miss warmth lol. We been going between late october and November weather for the past two months here. Mainly in the 40s and 50s, with the occasional 60s with sun but windy. Lot of cloudy days. I am so pale these days compare to what I am use too. With that said I have put my flights in for December and will be back for a month.

  36. Congrats Captain, didn’t get a chance as I was away.

We had an adventure of a trip. I’ll post what happened unfortunately wasn’t good upon our return for my FIL.
