DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 4-8)

A flattening of the upper level flow due to a weakening of the blocking pattern that has been in place, along with surface high pressure to our south, allows for fair and much warmer weather today, Friday, and pretty much for the entire region during the daylight hours of Saturday as well. On Saturday, however, higher humidity combined with the approach of a frontal boundary from the northwest will open the door for the potential for an isolated shower or thunderstorm well west and/or north of Boston by late in the day. The shower threat becomes more likely by later Saturday night and especially Sunday as a cold front slowly crosses the region and we also get a trough moving through the region, inducing a weak wave of low pressure along the front. So Sunday’s profile is unsettled and turning cooler, making Saturday the easy weekend pick for outdoor activities. By Monday, the disturbance has exited and the frontal boundary is pulled offshore with cooler and drier air being delivered by high pressure in eastern Canada.

TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-82 South Coast, 83-90 elsewhere but can turn cooler near the shoreline. Wind W to SW up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes possible.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 56-63. Wind variable to SW up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 77-84 South Coast, 85-92 elsewhere but can turn cooler near the shoreline. Wind W to SW up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breeze possible.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Fog patches overnight. Lows 58-65. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm well north and west of Boston by late-day. Highs 86-93 except 78-85 South Coast. Dew point 60+. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. An isolated shower or thunderstorm possible in the evening. Showers and patchy fog overnight. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60+. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mainly cloudy. Showers likely. Highs 71-78. Dew point 60+. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Showers end. Patchy fog. Lows 52-59. Dew point falls through 50s. Wind N to NE up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Increasing sun. Highs 62-69. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 9-13)

Omega block configuration returns, but weaker than the previous version and also displaced further east, with our region between a further-offshore trough and a ridge in the Midwest and Great Lakes. This allows for a quicker warm-up heading into the middle of next week and only a minor unsettled weather threat later in the week as a weakening disturbance approaches the region from the west.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 14-18)

More shifting of the upper pattern as upper level low pressure sinks to the south off the Mid Atlantic Coast and high pressure shifts from the Great Lakes toward the Northeast while a trough settles into the Midwest / Plains. This pattern indicates near to above normal temperatures and slightly better shower and t-storm chances, but is still a fairly dry pattern overall for our region.

    So many choices. Thought I had it in 2,3, and 4 before getting it in 5.

    If Loga ‘s temperature doesn’t get knocked back by a sea breeze. I supposec it is possible to get an official heat wave. Probably won’t happen, but is possible. Logan likely mid to upper 80s today andvtomorrow, but likely90+ on Saturday.

      Will have to re-install the AC I took out after the last heat.

  9. Logan is at 75 with West wind at 5 mph. as it stands now, it sure looks like Logan is destined for a sea breeze. We shall see.

  10. Logan is up to 77, BUT with a WEST wind at a mere 3 mph.
    Won’t be much longer now, UNLESS that West wind freshens.

  11. Fitchburg is up to 81. If any place makes 90 today, this would be a good candidate. Time will tell.

  13. Logan is still at 79 BUT has switched to a light SE seabreeze.
    I don’t see any 90 degree reading at Logan, UNLESS we get the dramatic 5PM shift to West wind. 🙂

    yet a mere 6 miles away, Logan is down to 79 with ESE wind at 13 mph.

      87 here now. Getting awfully close to that 90 degree mark.

    Hi all! No big changes. Some of the short range guidance has slowed the front’s progress this weekend down a bit, and it does make Sunday’s forecast potentially a bit more “interesting”. I’ll monitor that and get into it more soon, if necessary.

  27. Logan has jumped up to 88. I wonder if wind shifted to the West briefly because it is now SE at 7 mph.

    1. A bit early, but Logan now has a WSW wind at 15 mph.
      Still 88. Would NOT surprise me to see them jump to 90 between now and 6PM or so.

    1. down to 86 here as well with dp 54, while it is 88 at the airport with dp 45. that West wind there.

    I wish I could tell you the max temp here. The sensor always ends up in the direct sun. I must have move the sensor and solar shield a zillion times in the last year. I think I have found a little piece of shade on the north side of the house, pounded in a wooden stake and hung the sensor on it. The afternoon temps here seem to have matched those at the East Taunton ASOS.

  32. About to settle in and watch Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It seems almost unnecessary to battle for home ice/court advantage in the playoffs. The Golden Knights won on Carolina ice Tuesday night and the Knicks took Game 1 last night in San Antonio.

    1. The Knights will also win game 2 on the road.

      My prediction was for them to take the first 2 games in Carolina and then lose the next 4.

      Anyway, the road team has won nearly 60% of this year’s playoff games in the NHL.

      2. Guess again. Carolina tied the series at 1-1. You better stick with weather which is what you do best. Of course I don’t really follow hockey so I couldn’t care less anyway. 😉

        I do hope the Spurs can tie the series tonight against the Knicks. I did hear that the team that wins game #1 of the NBA finals go on to win the series so it may be inevitable anyway. Oh well. We’ll see.

        2. It looked good for Vegas early, up 2-0. Then Carolina found their game, scored 3 later on to take the lead, gave up a late goal for a late-game tie, but were able to take advantage in OT. That goal was Pasta-style: One-timer from the faceoff circle after a perfect pass.

        3. Well, nothing is inevitable. The game that has won game one has won the championship about 70% of the time. Certainly not 100%.
