Updated Boston Area Forecast

Our little storm is becoming even smaller as it gets torn apart while passing south of New England. Snowfall will be minimal, but some accumulation is still possible today as a couple more areas of energy pass by the region. A lingering trough may produce a few additional snow showers tonight into Friday. High pressure will dominate the region with chilly & dry weather for the weekend.

  1. We had a coating in Hanover this morning. On my way into Boston I went through a pretty heavy band of snow in Norwell which covered the roads. As I progressed northward on rte 53 the snow became less intense. Looks like we maybe in a colder than normal pattern for the next week with dry conditions.

  2. Goodmorning Brian- just a light coating here in Pembroke, but It sure is cold outside. Brian do you think this could be it for the snow this season. How does the longrange forcast look. Have fun at the game tonight, should be a good one.

  3. Thanks to Coastal for pointing me your way! I thoroughly enjoy all the intelligent weather postings, looking forward to a bit more sanity.

  4. Good Morning. I did email coastal yesterday and had suggested starting a new blog to get away from the unfortunate posting that seems to be getting worse on BZ. I see you were way ahead of me :))

I am not one of the people you really need to find his/her way here. I read your posts all of the time on BZ because of the great insight/knowledge. I love weather – any and all kinds! I was a member of BZ’s conversation nation until it started to fall apart for the same reasons now affecting the weather blog. A group of us started a blog like this last summer. We have a “serious” news topic every day and a fun one. We also can drift from the topic and just “chat” or branch to another news story. Everyone is very respectful and if there is a problem as there always can be we just work it out.

Our problem has been the same that you have here – getting the Web address to others. I don’t know if I can help. I believe it’s the posters like BaileyMan and Old Salty and SouthShoreTom, etc that you want to attract. I’m not meaning you are being elitist by any means but they are the ones with the knowledge. I can only post what’s happening in my area which is a good thing but …………………

I’m rambling – sorry 🙂 Oh, and I post on BZ as tsal. Please let me know if I can help and thank you for the link to this new site. Great job!!!! I was the one who started the offshoot of CN and two of us do all of the topics so know it’s not easy but it is fun!

  5. I’m sorry – I should have added that if you need help with moderation or in any other way I’d be happy to offer!

    1. Hadi, I am not a FLA fan but I go every year to Fort Meyers to see the Sox. Just got back. Everyday was in the mid 80’s; late afternoon breeze. Wore shorts; went swimming; etc. After this winter, I must say it was a good trip!!

  6. John,

with the NAO still negative for a week or so who knows. But to me its a done deal unless we can sneak something in within that time period, but the odd’s are slim to none IMO

  7. I’m ready for the warmer months, getting decent snow this time of year is hard enough, and it doesn’t stick around for more than a couple days.
I’m just hoping that it’s a less humid summer since my house doesn’t have A/C 🙁

  8. Hi guys- so I guess we all agree we want some nicer days. I am just ready for summer to come so that I can open up my pool. Glad you guys posted I’ve been checking back and forth. It is so nice that we have this new site. Tk seems like he is a really cool dude.I see the wbz blog has not changed today. Take care guys I will be back here later.

    1. Hey Brian is it ok if I still call you TK. And I hope you won’t mind talking hockey once in a while.

  9. Ditto on the warmer days! So I couldn’t resist at lunch, headed up to the Hopkington Reservoir and fly fished for an hour. Little chilly out in the waders, with some snow flurries coming down and a leak trickling down one leg, but better than sitting at work! No one else fishing, although one guy came as I left. Someone there told me stocked it with trout on Monday or Tuesday. No hits, but good to get out and practice a bit.
A guy from the MetroWest Daily took some pictures, now I’ll have to explain at work what I was doing fly fishing in the middle of the day….

  10. Hi everyone! Just popped on to approve the newcomers. I’ll get caught up on all comments and update the blog later tonight. Appointment this afternoon & going to the Bruins game tonight!

I saw your comment John. Yes you can call me TK. It’s been a nickname since the early 1980s. And even tho it’s a weather blog, a mention of hockey is fine. After all, hockey is originally an outdoor winter sport so it will forever be linked to weather!

As for weather, just light snow showers over eastern MA with no accumulation. I was worried about the most hours of snow taking place during the day today and therefore not accumulating. I missed the front end of the accumulation forecast (over-forecast it) because of the sneaky low level dry air that kept it snowing above us but not reaching the ground for about 12 hours!

Have a great afternoon everyone and I’ll finish reading comments a bit later!

  11. I have been contacted by several people from the BZ Site, Merlin, Haterain, Rainshine, JMA and a guy named Steve. I am not too sure about Steve, the way he writes is similar to ITOLDYOUSO. I am awaiting a response from TK before sharing the link. Is there anyone else we should reach out to? Old Salty could add a lot to this blog I would think.

    1. How about southshoretom? I always enjoy his posts.

I had seen coastal’s email posted but didn’t send him an email until TK suggested I do so. I suspect he’s right that if someone suggests emailing him it might get more attention.

And thank you for allowing me to be part of this blog. As I said, I won’t have much to contribute but I am looking forward to learning and will post amounts and conditions for all weather events

    1. I am flying to Florida that day let’s talk to the weather gods and move it a day either end:) also I doubt the 12z euro to stick with a run like that.

  12. We’ve had a few good bursts of snow here and there in Marshfield rotating in from the ocean. I find this weather a bit amazing considering the sun strength and length of day now match with September 19th !!
If this pattern holds for a couple more weeks and then switches to positive NAO, the transition could take us from 30s and 40s straight to 70s or higher. I will take that trade for school vacation week.

    Tom

    1. Hey SST- Its been a weird day here in pembroke. spitting this morning, than nothing, than big flakes. stopped for sometime now snowing again for about an hour now.

      1. Hi John.

Exactly the same here. Almost can see the bands or waves of snow coming. I looked towards the north and northeast across a field this morning. Behind the field was a tall set of pine trees. And I could see that foggy look and the snow flakes against the pine trees and just watched this wave of snow come across the field and then it disappeared as quickly as it came.

  13. Hi again!

coastal if you can ask anybody who you are not sure of what they post under, you can usually get a good guage on if they are telling the truth or not.. If you see anything suspicious you can let me know.

I am aware the time is off on here. I haven’t been able to do alot of work on it lately, but hopefully soon I’ll get that all ironed out.

Ok, I’m off on a complicated trek that eventually lands me at Boston Garden! Look for me in section 319 (if the camera gets up that high haha!). Catch you all later!

Hadi .. Didn’t miss your posts and NAO question. Will get to that soon!

  14. Scott I posted the NAO above looks to go positive around 4/1 both on GFS and euro. If anything were to happen snow wise it would in the next 7 days or so, otherwise its a wrap on winter.

Enjoy the game Brian!! I know I will get something from you later about my FL trip.

Great having a nice forum to talk weather! As far as I am concerned shame on CBS for building a website that they can’t control.

  15. I think it’s easy to tell who the imposters are and if any manage to come here TK can stop them from posting. Cracks me up that 1 person can set up a blog that is controlled but CBS a multi billion dollar company can’t do that.

    1. I am kind of glad thing’s happend the way they did with the wbz site. I have a feeling this is going to be an awesome site. Everybody who has been invited to this site has never said a bad word to each other, and that is how it should be. I am 39 and I try to be the best person that I can be on a daily basis- treat others how you want to be traated, that’s how it should be right. When I found the wbz site in December I was excited. I’ve had some time off this winter and was able to enjoy the site- going back next week, I’m not sure who is more excited me or my wife. But as winter went on as you know the blog has changed. As a kid I have alway’s got excited with an upcoming snowstorm, to this day it still holds true. So when I found the wbz blog I was excited. Those who know me from the blog, know that I am new and I do not even know how to read the maps, but I still feel that I have alot to contribute. Tk introduced me to NOA website. So I look forward to blogging here. I already consider the people on this site friends who will respect each other. I look forward to blogging with all of you, and any new people I have not talked to yet. Many Thank’s.

  16. Hey Tom- I would still like to call you SST if that is ok. I had asked Tk the same thing, I like those names. The sun is out here and still snowing.

  17. More blogger should be showing up soon. This will be like the all-stars of weather blogging. LOL. Soon we should have JMA, Haterain, Rainshain, Merlin and Longshot.

        1. Did you send one out to Charlie- or do you want me have him contact you. This is cool, maybe we can start a weather softball team.

  18. Hi All-Its my first post here. I want to say thank you to Topkatt for creating this forum and to all of you for letting me a part of it.

  19. What a pleasure to have this forum to acutaly talk weather. Maybe at some point BZ will figure out to fix it’s issues. Like I said I will still post some thoughts there but will not deal with the abuse:)

    1. Hey Hadi- just was on the blog and it sounds like it is out of controll. So I guess whoever posts now is a target- I am a dope and I smoke grass- HA-HA.

  20. Coastal, TK and Hadi- Thank you so much for the invite — Love the site! Looking forward to scrolling through less garbage and being able to learn more!

    -David

  21. I’m back. Sorry for the delay in approving the newcomers! Please be patient if you are posting for the first time as I will be at my computer for limited time the next few days!

Awesome Bruins game. I was way up in the balcony 1 row from the back wall, but it was crazy up there! And it’s the first WIN I’ve been at in a long time!

We had a 0.3 inch snow squall in Woburn a little while ago that did include graupel. Brings my total to a whopping half inch for the day! This is the 2nd time I’ve had graupel this snow season. Scott… I’m sure you observed it. In fact, the graupel pellets here were rather large as far as graupel goes.

I’m glad to have so many of you here. I’m still going to blog on WBZ’s site as well, though maybe not as frequently. Barry invited me there and I would hate not to be a part of it. It’s just a pain with Mr. Troll not giving up so far. Whoever that is, I almost feel bad for them…almost.

Ok I’m going to look over some info and update this blog in a little while. Have a good night everyone!

  22. Former WBZ “lurker” (and utter weather know-nothing 🙂 ) checking in. Stumbled upon this blog via Google search — glad to see another blog with a reasonable signal-to-noise ratio starting up. I look forward to learning from the discussions here!

  23. Just want to say I am glad for this blog – looking forward to giving weather information and to continue learning more new things. (Hopefully I will be able to read the computers better so I can add my thoughts, too!)

    Have a great weekend, everyone!
