Better For A Bit

7:47PM

We’ve gotten rid of another wet storm, but got lucky in that flooding has been limited and not severe, the rainfall deficit is essentially gone, and the pollen count was knocked way down and kept there.

The weather will be better for the first half of the weekend as high pressure controls, but the rapid movement of weather systems means that clouds will advance by Sunday and showers are a possibility by late in the day. This will be due to a warm front and associated disturbance moving through the Great Lakes. This will keep lots of clouds around probably through early next week, probably enhanced later Tuesday in the form of heavier clouds and a chance of rain as a low pressure wave comes along the front wavering in the area. Perhaps we will break out of the unsettled stretch during the second half of next week, but it seems to want to happen very slowly so we shall see.

  1. Vicki to you question from previous blog, the GM at 7 is on the board of my wife’s organization. She set the visit for my birthday and set up time to meet with Pete. Btw he said to say hi to you. Also he checks on the blog but can’t post due to restrictions.

    1. What a great bday present. Very very nice!! He had said he can’t post due to restrictions but he reads. I suspect same with BB….that’s Barry. :). Its a funny setup isn’t it with the upstairs part and lower level.

  2. Yeah it’s odd that you go down to the studio. Much smaller than I thought. I guess I envisioned it being massive.

We had a nice talk about models, instinct etc…

  4. Hi Vicki, the basement is getting better, I finally saw some of the water start to recede around 7 last night but much slower than earlier in the week. We are having our family birthday party at noon today for my daughter. i guess we both got lucky with this weather for our two parties :). I know hat there are a lot more people that have the water worse than we did, so I count is lucky on that respect.

    1. Great news and please wish your daughter a happy birthday. How old is she? My grandson was six on Thursday.

      1. She is twelve. How time flies. I bet your grandson first six years went by fast too! Our party was great. What a beautiful day!

  5. GFS has a 582 dm ridge bullseye over central AK this week. Accordingly, it looks like Fairbanks, AK is going to be 85F to 90F most of the upcoming workweek. I suppose after the very cold spring they had, they deserve it.

  6. Beautiful early summer day! Now if it can just stay dry for a week, the lawns are like a sponge, a lotta lost production the last 2 weeks but will make it up the next 2 weeks starting Monday.

  8. The Euro is beginning to correct its errors that were made glaringly obvious by how badly it forecast Friday’s “Northeaster”.

So as expected it’s coming around to the GFS’s long-standing idea of very warm and humid weather next weekend. Take note Matt! You may get your wish. 🙂

  9. Enjoy the game everyone. I know its a huge night and am glad its on a Saturday. Once mac finishes watching the open we will tune in also. Go bruins!!!!

  10. Hi Vicki…. It was a tough day for me on the golf course. There were three holes with standing water including one bunker that had water in it. Amazingly with all the rain the greens were quick.
There is going to be drama in the final round of the U.S. Open tomorrow.

    1. Those are not good conditions that’s for sure. Mac is still watching the open since we were busy with the party all day. At this point I just saw only 2 players are under par?? Wow. It’ll be a great day tomorrow to watch. The Open always reminds me of Davis Loves win on Father’s Day years ago. His dad had passed away before seeing him win a major. And at the 18th hole just after his win the clouds cleared and a rainbow appeared. I’d say his dad was watching.

          1. Another one that comes to mind was Phil Mickelson winning his first major at Augusta in 2004 when
he jumped after making the putt. I will never forget the call by Jim Nantz is it his time yes at long last.

            1. I remember that too. Mostly because its the majors I watch. What was the one where freddie was so emotional. He is my all time favorite.

  11. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What is the most dangerous place to be in a tornado?
    A. Car
    B. Bathtub
    C. Ditch
    D. Work (office)

    Answer later today.

  12. I will go with A for the trivia.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads! What a beautiful morning.

      1. It was great. Hardly a cloud in the sky and I didn’t have to work in the basement! How was your grandson’s party?

        1. It was perfect also and it left today to relax which makes it very sweet. Good luck with the work at your house tomorrow.

          1. They start Wednesday and should be done Friday. No gully washers the next two days and I will be home free for most of the basement. I am not having them do 1/3 of it. That is a part that doesn’t have the finished room in it or the furnace or hot water heater. It was quite a bit more to do that room too and I can control that one with a pump outside if needed and it doesn’t get wet, even this past week.

            1. Sounds as if you have made a wise decision. We are hopefully doing the same if the darned insurance company can get its act in gear. We will replace a five year old roof with a rubber roof. An expense we didnt want but I can’t go through another winter worrying.

              1. I hope things get straightened out soon for you, so to head into next winter worry free.

I really hate how much this costs, but it needs to be done.

  13. Thanks, TK.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! Yesterday was a glorious day! I am kind of looking forward to some HHH – as long as there are some breaks in-between w/frontal passages bringing showers and non-severe thunderstorms followed by days like yesterday.

My answer is C to the quiz.

    1. Wow – so fast – hoping the summer doesn’t go that fast. Not ready for autumn just yet.

  14. A for thr quiz, happy fathers day. Bruins accomplished the task and got the split, that’s what you wanted.

  15. Don’t get me wrong I am thrilled with the split in Chicago, but if Daugavins only chips that easy goal in over the goalie in the 3rd OT in game 1 instead of trying to make one extra move to get around him, we could very well be coming home up 2-0. Doesn’t matter. I feel good about this team.

    1. I feel good about the team as well tk. But they need to play all three periods. Last nights first was not good, the rest was. The effort was there game one but just could not get that bounce. Like last night with that shot from Jaeger , so close. Bruins ruled that ot last night.

  16. Couldn’t watch the game. Had tickets to a concert that were purchased about 6
months ago. Oh well, they got the job done! 😀

  17. A lot of ponds lake and rivers are all high and these ponds lakes and rivers will go down quickly over the next couple weeks bc it’s mid to late June, but it certainly doesn’t mean we need rain, if we got no rain for the next month I think we will all be ok, good day all 🙂

    1. If we had gotten all these rain events say in mid March there would be more flooding and slower receding waters

  18. Except for the over-developed PV late in the period, the 12z GFS is actually decent today.

    1. I love the sky like this in June. It’s actually common for warm air advection aloft days in the late Spring / Summer.

  19. Answer to today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What is the most dangerous place to be in a tornado?
    A. Car
    B. Bathtub
    C. Ditch
    D. Work (office)

    The answer is A, car.

  20. 20 years ago, I wouldnt have considered this a beach day, but now, beautiful ! No blazing sun, a nice breeze and a lot of fun with the tide coming in. A nice Father’s day with my wife and daughters. 🙂

    1. Now that made me smile from ear to ear. Amazing how our priorities and perspectives change isn’t it. Happy Father’s Day Tom. 😀

  21. JJ not sure what point you are at in the open but mac sure is enjoying it. I think ill have to move off the deck and watch the end. I think he’s on hole 10-12ish

    1. Btw if they could get rid of Johnny miller I’d be a happy camper. He is such a Debbie downer.
