  1. Thanks TK !

Nice comeback win for B’s last night, lets see if they play better in game 5 than last year vs. Leafs.

  2. While cool and an ocean breeze, this morning’s model runs dont look 100% gloom for next week. Seems a high east of New England holds the rain back for a while and in the big picture, the big upper level low doesnt pass south of us, but instead wobbles NW of us into SE Canada.

Not mild spring weather by any means, but maybe we avoid 5-7 straight days of drizzle, light rain, NE winds and highs of 42F.

  3. TK, would one of those areas with possible snow tomorrow night be Hopkinton? I will be in that area for a party.

    1. Can’t rule it out since I don’t know what the precipitation profile will look like yet. πŸ™‚

    1. It’s gonna take a while for ocean temps to rise this year. We had one of the lowest winter ocean temps in years. Until that happens, any wind off the water will keep things very cool around here even into some of the HHH days of late spring/early summer.

      1. In addition when thunderstorms threaten that wind coming off the water with those cool ocean temps will knockdown
the intensity of any thunderstorms that develop.

      2. Indeed, see below.

        What we NEED is:

        1. Extended period with Days of Brilliant Sunshine
(Even IF it produces a nasty sea breeze. As long as there
is bright sunshine, it WILL warm it up)
        2. Extended period of Warm weather

Even then, it will take its sweet time in warming up.

        What we DON’T NEED:

Prolonged CLOUDY/RAINY weather with a NORTHEAST WIND!!!!!!

    2. Charlie, where do you get these FANTASY temperatures????? πŸ˜†

      CURRENT ocean temperatures:

      Inner Harbor: 43.9
Buoy 16 Nautical Miles East of Boston: 42.6
      Stellwagen: 41.4

      1. I can’t copy and paste idk why, it’s on the udcc site boston temps, it also has Narragansett beach RI at 50.2 degrees πŸ™‚

        1. Why can’t you copy and paste? That can even be done
from an Iphone or Android phone.

What is the URL of that site? I’d like to take a look.

I think someone is sticking a thermometer in their
          bath tub! πŸ˜† 😈 πŸ‘Ώ πŸ˜†

            1. What was the other? πŸ˜†

I could give a few choices, but this is a family blog. πŸ˜†

    1. I dunno Hadi. It’s pretty mild in JP right now. I just came from there.
I was Extremely comfortable with NO jacket or coat. To be truthful,
I didn’t even check the thermometer.

  4. 66.1 degrees here, I’m glad I don’t live 10 miles within the coast, I could never get used to that, beautiful here πŸ™‚

  5. I wouldn’t mind living within 10 miles on the coast during the summer especially when the wind comes off the water to give a little bit of relief from 3 H weather. Living within 10 miles of the coast during the spring when the wind comes off the water stinks.

    1. I’ll take the coast in Summer and Fall.

NOT in the Winter => RAIN
NOT in the SPRING => ICE BOX πŸ˜†

  6. Tom or anyone who has the knowledge, is it the approaching new moon that is creating the larger waves? I was thinking the wind yesterday was a large contributor, but the wind is not in play today for the most part. Thank you.

    1. New Moon and to a slightly lesser effect Full Moon contribute to Higher High tides and lower low tides due to it’s position and gravitational pull at that time.

As far as I know it has nothing to do with the size of waves. Generally it’s
the Wind somewhere/someplace that contributes to wave size (also configuration of the beach/shore line under the water and also any seismic activity). πŸ˜€

    1. Why does this not surprise me. I posted yesterday that I didn’t like the
looks of the set up. PLENTY cold enough aloft. Get the right intensity and duration of intensity and BAM there ya go.

We’ll see. Tomorrow is what 4/26 and next day is 4/27. Pretty awfully late in
the season for this, BUT we’ve seen it before. πŸ˜†

      1. If it’s sunny Saturday night, we’re in trouble. I don’t care what the temp is. πŸ˜›

    2. Where the BLEEP are they seeing that GFS map?

DO they have early access to the 18Z run, because the 12Z run sure as hell
      does NOT have it????????????????

      1. Ok, 12Z Euro hints at it, but keeps any Snow N&W of the Boston area. I can say this, SURFACE temperatures from say about 10 PM Saturday until “about” 10 or 11AM Sunday will ONLY be in the 30s. IF the precipitation is intense enough during this period it WILL snow. It’s going to have to come down pretty good to accumulate much.

    3. That is HILARIOUS!!!!

Is this a delayed APRIL FOOL’s JOKE????

That is fictitious and does not COMPUTE with the actual weather maps
and model runs. It’s pure BullS**T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OR is this something wxBell has done with the actual runs and have computed their own data and produced this SNOW MAP???????????????????????????

It “may” snow, but this current map does NOT agree with reality.

    1. Charlie,

You have to be careful with the site you posted. It says Boston, but it doesn’t
tell you WHERE that reading is. I can now tell you that it is from the INNER
      harbor. See below:

      8443970 – Boston, MA
      (BHBM3) 42.355N 71.052W
Last Updated: Apr 25 2014, 2:48 pm EST
      Fri, 25 Apr 2014 14:48:00 -0500
      Temperature: 52.3 Β°F (11.3 Β°C)
      Water Temperature: 45.0 Β°F (7.2 Β°C)

You can’t go by that reading as it is meaningless when it comes to any kind of
Ocean Influence. The coastal temperatures are influenced by the Water temperatures off shore, like at Boston Buoy and Stellwagen Bank, where the current water temperatures are 42.6 and 43.0 respectively AND I might add,
they are up a bit DUE to the East Wind blowing and accumulating slightly warmer (less cold) surface water heated by the Sun. Those temps will go back down as soon as the Wind really kicks up.

  7. We are lucky to be having a beautiful day today – and ‘though the wknd. looks cold, rainy and lousy – we should be thankful we are not experiencing what they are down in NC, VA and those general areas. Lots of tornado warnings right now.

        1. Thanks, OS. I think the severe weather down there is going to slowly move east through the coming wknd. (not us – I think thanks to the cold Atlantic ocean!)

          1. I don’t like the grey and cold wet weather in Spring. I am looking forward to at least the 70’s and 80’s. I guess we’ll have to wait awhile for that.

    1. I’d take that any day bc it’s so localized over 4 days of crap weather, but that’s me πŸ™‚

  8. I like a few periods of cold/gray weather this time of year. Being in that envelope of stratus with a chill off the ocean, knowing that the heat of summer, beach days, cookouts, etc., can be just weeks away. It’s always had that impact on me. But not because I dislike the cold/damp weather. I do indeed like it. But I love knowing the contrast that is to come. The anticipation can equal the excitement of the event.

    1. Tk what is the timing of the heaviest rain tomorrow. I need to plant some flowers at the cemetery around 10am. Thanks. Things been good with you? Hope the test went well . I as well am so looking forward to the warmer days soon coming. Tk could we go the opposite next winter and be mild . I know you can’t say for sure.

      1. The further south and east you are it looks wetter and during the morning. There should be a break in the afternoon.

Things are going well. The test was routine and went fine. Thank you. πŸ™‚

I think we are going to be in an “ocean pattern” for 1 to 2 weeks and then we may flip the switch to a more typical late Spring / early Summer pattern a bit early.

Next winter? We shall see. Odds are, it will be milder than this one was, but that’s easy to say. πŸ˜€

        1. We just replaced the old deck in the back of the house with a new one. So between that and my front farmers porch it will be nice. Also rebuilding the pool shed in the next couple of weeks. Have been under construction all winter.

            1. It is. We did a lot of work this winter and have a couple more jobs to do replace old rotten shed by pool like I said and installing some wainscoting in a couple of areas. Than that’s good for now . Notice I said for now . We love working on the house but it sure does cost.

              1. Mmmmmm we always have too but I’m more content to just enjoy now. We have a list when we get home πŸ™‚

  9. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

In April, 1997 how much snow fell in Boston?
    A. 10″
    B. 14″
    C. 22″
    D. 30″

    Answer later today.

    1. The answer is C, and it also snowed on April 9 in Boston.

Charlie, your answer should be E. none of the above, because you don’t believe in April snow. πŸ™‚

  10. Heading out for breakfast, wondering if anyone is shoveling snow or got there shovels ready, after your done shoveling snow could you get me a piΓ±a colada and mow my lawn for me this weekend. Lol just raining here, sucks that you work so hard to have the weather return a weekend like this is diss appointing, good day everyone πŸ™‚ a lot of inside stuff, yes I know everyone on here loves inside stuff or will make like being inside is a treat, not me or the majority, good day everyone :)ok now you can go back to your regular scheduled potential snow and east wind talk

    1. Potential east wind? Dude…

BTW, that disappointing rain you speak of is what helps grow all those wonderful flowers and bushes you plant and lawns you maintain for people. Not everybody can afford irrigation systems. Then again if it didn’t rain, where would the water for those systems come from? Maybe we could pipe it in from Texas. πŸ™‚

I’m so glad you love to point out you are with the “majority” and the rest of us bloggers are the minority. Maybe I should change my likings so I can “fit in” .. sorta like in school? Never did it then. Won’t do it now. πŸ˜€

I’ll just have you know that despite the wet, chilly day, my 82 year old mom and I will be doing errands that involve being OUTSIDE. We’re pretty tough, Mom and me. πŸ˜‰

      1. Already been out today too on errands. A little rain and cool doesn’t hurt. The wind is light so it is not uncomfortable.

Raining and 44.9 here, a few miles from Charlie where it is sunny and 70. πŸ˜‰

    2. I’m not sure if you were actually paying attention before. The snow potential was not for TODAY. It was mainly for higher elevations of eastern and northern MA and southern NH… TONIGHT. So no, nobody is shoveling snow. And nobody will likely be doing it tonight either because even if it did cover something, it would melt in the morning. But you just had to take the opportunity to poke, didn’t you? It should come as no surprise.

  11. Hoping the rain stays light like now for at least a couple more hrs. I’m next in the barber chair but need to get to Braintree fast. Great as I look out the window in Halifax it’s picking up. Oh well I havto go and get it done no matter what. Go bruins!!! 3pm game 5 today and hope it ends here, I think it will.

    1. Energy is shifting to the SE to a new low offshore so that’s why I went for a bit heavier rain in southern MA and over the Cape. The rest of eastern MA should see this area “rain itself out” during the remainder of the morning.

  12. As the RAIN picks up the evaporational cooling is kicking in, dropping
the temperature. Down to 46.6 here and diving fast.

According the 0Z Euro run, 850mb temps are well below freezing right now.

    Hmmmm

Euro shows NO snow for the area and hardly any up North as well.

    1. Models often under-forecast evaporational cooling especially in the Spring. Every one of my colleagues that I have spoken to sees the decent chance of mix/change in higher elevations of eastern and northern MA and southern NH easily, and closer to Boston if there is enough precipitation intensity.

Today is April 26. Snow is rare at this time of year, we all know that.

But do we really need to remind people dates later than this in which snow of measurable quantity has taken place?

I don’t think areas that snow tonight will see much in terms of measurable, but a little bit is certainly possible.

  13. Rain here. Clouds were fascinating as they moved in……I’ll pretend I even like watching the ocean in the rain….oh wait….I do

  14. Rain has tapered off somewhat. A steady type drizzle here in pembroke now with temps in the low 40s, yuck!!!. Ended up just putting a nice fake flower arrangement at my wife’s parents grave.
