Vote For Your Favorite Weather!

7:37AM

Reminder to get out and vote today!
Also, in the comments below, vote for your favorite weather. Tell me your idea of a perfect weather day. Sunny and warm? All-out blizzard? It’s not a debate, just an opinion poll. 🙂

Expect an active weather pattern but not all bad weather. We turn milder today and Wednesday ahead as high pressure slips offshore and a cold front slowly approaches. This front will come through dry late Wednesday then the boundary will bend back to the west again as low pressure from the southwest rides along it and passes just west of southern New England Thursday night and early Friday. This will bring a “mild” rain event late Thursday to early Friday. After a shot of windy and cooler weather later Friday and a nice day Saturday as high pressure dominates, another system, possibly similar to the previous one, will arrive later Sunday, followed by improving weather again early next week.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. AM rain showers. Low 48. High 55.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 38. High 51.

  1. Thanks TK !

Perfect summer weather day for me ….. Sunny, 86F …. 78F at the coast with a light seabreeze, dewpoints in the mid 50s.

Favorite winter scenario for snow …. Clippers that intensify as they track just south of New England.

        1. I’ll take the Thunder, but please NO POWER OUTAGES.
Don’t need that stinken crap. We’ll at least NOT in my
          neighborhood. 😀

  2. After in inside runner on the 7th, the Euro shows an interesting coastal. Still too warm
in SNE, but it does drop SNOW up North. Here’s a peek:

    http://i.imgur.com/a7ImB0A.png

After that, the GFS shows a duo of coastals one earlier on the 17th

    http://www.instantweathermaps.com/GFS-php/showmap-conusncep.php?run=2014110406&var=PCPPRSTMP_2m&hour=312

And one early on the 20th

    http://www.instantweathermaps.com/GFS-php/showmap-conusncep.php?run=2014110406&var=PCPPRSTMP_2m&hour=384

GFS not particularly good that far out, but it does indicate an active pattern
from now through 11/21 anyway. At this point, just doesn’t appear cold enough
for snow in SNE, however, there might be a nice early SKI season up North.

  3. As of this posting, TV and radio ads continue….UGH! 🙁

Now to head out and vote, then run errunds! 😀

  4. Caution regarding medium range models: They can get “confused” when trying to handle energy and moisture from a tropical system transitioning into the westerlies.

  5. Sunny, 75 and low humidity is my favorite type of weather.

Vicki, drop off at school today was crazy with voting going on too. Traffic nightmare, not sure why today wasn’t a professional development day!

I did go back and vote later.

    1. I know elementary is off here today. Not sure about upper grades. I would think they would all have a PD day. Awful risky not doing so.

      1. We always had school in North Attleboro on election day, and IIRC it was at the high school when i was there. It was a logistical nightmare.

  6. You could see with the latest CPC outlook ridge in the west trough in the east pattern with both the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks. In addition both outlooks show above normal precipitation. Will see if any of that precipitation will be in the wintry form.

    1. I don’t think we see any snow. Perhaps that will change. Just doesn’t look
      like it at the moment.

    1. Tommorrows gonna be mild, and you’ll see winter will be a dud for you, about 25-30 inches with an early spring, 🙂

  7. Euro for Friday morning no longer looking like a warm Rain.
In fact it is getting closer and closer to Snow. Tons of COLD air to the North.
Does this one surprisingly get interesting, OR does it remain an all rain event
    as forecast?

Here it is for 06Z Friday

    1. It is going to haul out of here. Friday will be a mainly dry/windy day. Going to readjust my forecast for faster timing. Most rain will occur Thursday evening.

    1. Little late for the Little League World Series. 😀

      Enjoy.

You and Arod disappear for the Summer.

      Nice to see you again.

    1. Winter is a long way off, and will probably be delayed in its true beginning this season.

And probably not nearly as harsh as many think it is going to be. This is the perfect set up for mega failure of long range forecasts when the atmosphere pulls the old switcheroo just when “everything is in place” … Over the years I have found that nothing is ever a lock.

        1. It’s been a fairly snowy decade so far.
The snowiest 25 years in much of the Northeast have been the last 25 years.

But part of that could be due to more complete reporting.

  8. In the “be careful what you wish for” category, this is something to think about. Already seeing signs of what will be some colder weather in the eastern US into the middle of November, but then some signs of a retrograding pattern that will put the trough further and further west, finally landing it in the Rockies by early December. Though it’s often true that the late Fall pattern can persist into or even through Winter, this is not a guarantee and especially so this year with the tropical activity so high in the Pacific. Many alterations to a large scale northern hemisphere pattern keeping the weather often atypical of what one would expect with the set up like it is in Canada/Siberia. I caution anybody jumping too fast to an all out cold/snow blast of a Winter around here. It may very well not quite pan out the way you think…

    1. Thanks TK!

According to Pete, after Veteran’s Day daytime highs will only be in the 30’s and 40’s for the forseeable future. He also doesn’t see anymore 60’s for highs anytime soon.

      1. For now, yes. I just don’t think the cold/snowy scenario is even close to a lock.

I have opened the door in my mind to a little more snow than I was originally thinking, but still weighing many factors with about 2 weeks to go…

        1. I understand. How come it seems as if most, not all, but most are favoring the colder/snowier scenario?

          Curious.

          1. A combination of following what others have said, weighing Siberian snow too heavily, and forecasting what they would like rather than what they think (hopefully there are very few doing that).

            1. Except Chris Mass is not from this area so, although he may be as wrong as all of them, he has nothing in the game for the NE

  9. I hope it’s dry and snow free the entire winter. That’s what I would wish for if I was granted just one wish. Unfortunately doubt that will happen.

  10. I just emailed Judah on his early thoughts. I’ll let you know his response. He always gets back to me.

    1. He’ll probably tell you that there will be plenty of cold air available because of above normal Siberian snowcover early in the season, but the question is how much of it will get down into the lower 48 because of an uncertainty in the amount of blocking… or something like that. 🙂

      1. DT had an interesting stat about average sea level pressures in the Pacific in the month of Oct during times of El Nino. Average pressure was 1012 mb which is fairly low and well within the threshold that has equated to a mostly negative NAO for the winter months

      2. Remember that winter we received very little snow due to blocking that winter. I know you said there would not be a repeat of that winter.

  11. I like a hot summers day when the air is so heavy you can fill a cup with it. Then off in the distance you can hear the rumble of thunder just a little at first but getting louder. Then a bright bolt of lightning catches your eye and drops of rain splash here and there. The lightning gets more numerous elimuminating the sky with an almost constant barrage of flashes. The rain cascades down in curtains obscuring the landscape in a wall of water while the thunder rolls out before you in a never ending rumble. You can feel the shock wave of a close strike and you flinch from it as the thunder fills your ears like a thousand trumpets blaring all at once. On and on the storm seems like it is just sitting over you while the hail is bouncing off everything in sight, lightning and thunder combine into one continuous show you are a part of….. Well that would be my most favorite type of weather. Thanks for asking.

    1. My pick is full blown nor’easter but darned if I was not tempted to change my mind after reading you very well written description. I could literally feel it. And nice to see you ⚡️⚡️⚡️

  12. I’m not going to go political here but I had a good laugh when I saw the networks and newswires put a check mark next to Shaheen’s name way too early then look at the stats to see Brown in the lead as of 10:45PM. They often call those close races too early. Not sure how it will end but it has to make them think about how soon is too soon. 😉

  13. Gee, there are no political ads on TV this morning. Ugh, what I am going to do? I looked forward to those ads everyday!! 🙂

  14. Good morning. Post-Election head ache.
    Now on with life.

Being in the business of providing services to the Elderly, we’re not sure
what Baker’s administration will bring. Romney, when governor, was surprisingly
supportive of our cause. Hopefully, Baker will be as well.

    1. I do not look to the governor to help me or the disease I have that only 380 to date in the world have, or to see what he can bring for me, I want him to change the insides of this rotten apple. And bring Boston and this state into 2015. I voted for him, the state needed change 🙂 I hope he works out for you 😉

      1. Charlie,

You haven’t a clue. You stated: I do not look to the governor to help me or the disease

Our agencies (27 in the state) obtain funding from the state. We don’t go treating diseases. We provide services to the elderly like home delivered meals, homemaker services, personal care services etc. so that the elderly person(s) can stay at home and NOT have to enter a Nursing Home facility. It actually SAVES the Commonwealth money!

I just hope that Baker understands this concept.

        1. Intesting OS. I of course agree. I’m interested. Did you work with the Gerontology Institute? or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan?

          1. We work with several SCOs (Senior Care Options), including

            SCO – Commonwealth Care Alliance
            SCO – Senior Whole Health
            SCO – United
            SCO – Fallon Navicare
            SCO – Tufts
One Care – Network Health Unify

We also do Group Adult Foster Care

In addition there are an equal number of
            State home Care Programs.

We work with Beth Israel hospital to do our
best to get hospitalized elders back home so they
don’t have to get discharged to a Nursing Home facility.

We also built, with Mayor Menino’s help, a 57 unit Elderly apartment building with subsidized rentals that is fully occupied.

            1. Very cool OS. It is so important to keep seniors in their homes and we have to provide services in order to do that. I named the above two because Mac’s cousin is senior fellow for gerontology institute and her husband is in sr management of the other. They have dedicated their working life to helping seniors. I have great respect for all of you as we have a lot of folks heading for retirement who need good people in their corner.

      2. My view is this. No one politician can change the insides of any rotten fruit or vegetable. It takes a long-term concerted team effort among many people and groups. The current format of politics in this country is not conducive for this type of change. Until the structure of politics changes, we will just keep going around in circles with no real change.
