Showery & Mild Sunday, Cold Week Coming

2:50AM

The weekend storm is doing generally as was expected. A minor to locally moderate snowfall from Boston north and west, some icing inland valleys, and rain overtaking most locations during Saturday night. As low pressure tracks northwest of New England Sunday it will drag mild air into the region, though some of the colder air may remain trapped in valleys of north central MA into southern NH, though even there it will be above freezing so the icing threat will end. As for precipitation, expect episodic rain showers during Sunday with a risk of a cluster or line of heavier downpours later in the day as a cold front sweeps eastward. This front will clear the region at night and set up a windy, colder, dry Monday. A clipper system from Canada will traverse the Great Lakes and pass across southern New England Tuesday night, exiting by early Wednesday, producing a light snowfall. Windy and much colder weather will follow for Wednesday and Thursday as we get a shot of pure Arctic air. A second disturbance and front is expected to pass through the region Friday with a snow shower threat, followed by a reinforcing cold shot next Saturday (a bit less cold than the midweek delivery).

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TODAY: Cloudy with periodic rain showers and a few late day heavier downpours possible. Patchy fog. Highs in the 50s except 40s some interior valleys in north central MA to southern NH. Wind SW 5-15 MPH gusting 20-25 MPH, except light wind inland valleys.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with lingering rain showers early, followed by clearing west to east. Lows 30-35. Wind W 15-25 MPH and gusty.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Temperatures 30-35 early then falling into the 20s. Wind W 15-25 MPH gusting 30-35 MPH.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Afternoon and evening light snow. Low 15. High 25.
WEDNESDAY: Clearing. Low 15. High 25.
THURSDAY: Sunny. Low 0. High 15.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of snow showers. Low 10. High 25.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 5. High 20.

  1. Thanks TK.

I watch a lot of football folks and I would be semi nervous by the Ravens. Great WR and a QB that can get hot. Defense is suspect but playoff football so often is momentum. Saying Pats will win easily and by 20 or more is flat arrogant. Pats are loaded but the Ravens are very capable of winning this game.

      1. I said in the last blog that the Pats will send the Ravens home down by at least 20. Arrogant? Not sure why people on here live in fear of the Ravens. No one was even talking about them until a few days ago. It’s just my personal prediction and if its arrogant to you (Hadi) then not sure what to say. I am personally tired of this PC stuff around sports in general where you have to show deference to your opponent all the time. Believe me it won’t be mutual…expect a week of Suggs trash talking for one. They aren’t afraid of us.

          1. i do not respect the ravens, its just that the ravens have had the patriots number in the post season at 3-1. They are the only team that has a winning record against the patriots in the post season

    1. Hadi I think at this point in the year that any team could send us home. I also agree that we have to respect our opponent…..but that goes for all games. I just don’t think the ravens are the team they once were. They are no more a threat than any other team we play next week and hopefully in the weeks after. Being afraid of one team more than another just doesn’t make sense to me.

So you are right. I’m semi nervous about the ravens and any other team but whatever the outcome I love our pats

  2. Btw Gronkowski is the key to to the game. Imo he is the Pats MVP and needs to play well. If he does they are nearly unstoppable.

  3. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Do thunderstorms occur in every state?

    A. Yes
    B. No

    Answer later today.

    1. I would have to say Yes.
Certainly ALL of the lower 48. I presume Hawaii must get some thunderstorms
from time to time. Only suspect state would be Alaska and the state runs
South along the Pacific, so it gets into some of those energy loaded Pacific storms. SO even there, I’d have to say YES.

      answer. A = YES

  4. A.
Still have that 1.5 inches of snow on the ground but its compacted by the sleet and freezing rain that fell overnight. The trees have a bit of that icy glaze on them.
4:40 pm can’t come soon enough with the Cowboys. We should win that game and set up a match up in Lambeau against Green Bay next Sunday. If they don’t win I can see the headlines now Cowboys can’t win a playoff game Romo chokes in big spot. A win I today I would call it a great season. A loss and I would be a little disappointed especially coming into the playoffs the way they are playing.
Level 1 snowfall Tuesday (1-3) but evening commute COULD be tricky.

  5. I’m not going to take any sides here but let me offer this…

The Patriots (and any team) respect ALL their opponents. What fans say/think makes no difference. The fans are not the ones playing the game. πŸ™‚

I’ve never really been sure what the hang up is about fans of teams. There are arrogant PEOPLE, not just fans. But anyway, just for fun, and to prove something, I set up a little trap for someone I know:
Back early in the season, I asked them what they thought of a fan saying something like “The Pats will beat so-and-so by 2 touchdowns.” Their reply: “Typical arrogant Pats fan!” .. That’s their first mistake. The “typical” Pats fan is not arrogant. But whatever, ok. Fast-forward to recently. I asked the same person what they thought of a Ravens fan saying “We’ll win on the road, easily…” regarding the game against the Steelers. Their reply: “They’re just confident in their team.” … They fell RIGHT into the trap. Quite funny. πŸ™‚

    Anyway, on to the weather………….

    1. You know I feel the same, TK. I do have a problem with Boston fans. I know that is a general statement and does not include all. They run hot and cold, supporting their team or their player if they are winning. When the team or player does not win or even when they win but struggle, fans criticize them. IMHO and that of others more qualified than I, it is when a team or player is having a tough time….and they always will……that they need the most support.

  6. The initial surge of extreme warmth (50s+) seems to have been turned back a bit.

Logan, Marshfield and Plymouth all were milder a few hrs ago, but the wind either went calm or came around to light NW and the temps have fallen back a bit.

There is another wedge of warmth to the west, Buffalo and Watertown, NY have S and SW winds ahead of the cold front, with temps of 45-50F.

  7. I guess starting tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest, I wonder how many days in a row Logan stays sub 32F ……….

  8. Tom glad you said it felt warmer earlier. I was out quite early and then went out just now to clean cars and thought the same.

    1. I’m guessing a decent amount of the snow from last night is still on the ground there Vicki ??

There’s still a patch here and there around these parts ……

  9. BZ is reporting a man in hopedale fell through the ice yesterday. I was out there and the ice is nearly nonexistent and clearly thin. Why would anyone think it is safe?

  10. I’ll get very specific in my concerns vs Ravens ….

    1) can Pats put pressure on Flacco ? Flacco is a very good QB, who takes his performance to a higher level in the playoffs. If he has til 5 or 6 Mississippi on each pass play to survey the secondary, he will find the open receiver (Revis and Browner cannot cover everyone …… Hello Logan Ryan)

    2) can the Pats offensive line, on both rush and pass plays, combat a very, very, very, very good Ravens defensive front ?

  11. Why respect the Ravens? The fact that so many people on here seem to fear them is what they want. See below (this is from someone else, not be, but sums it up)…this is a team I am suppose to show respect for? No thanks.

“A team that builds statues for murderers and whose fans give standing ovations for wife beaters. And it’s not just former Raven players like Ray Lewis and Ray Rice either. It’s guys like their current leader Terrell Suggs. A guy who if the NFL really cared about Domestic abuse wouldn’t be in the league. A guy who in 2009 held his girlfriend Candace Williams on the floor and poured bleach on her and their baby before breaking her nose with a kick to the face. Then in 2012 he punched her in the neck and dragged her alongside a speeding car with their two children in the vehicle…”

      1. I am not sure we are talking about the same respect. I think they need to be respected as an opponent. I fully believe that will be the only PATS focus.

        1. The actions of the players are the team. Anyone that follows football knows the Ravens are the “bully” of the NFL.

You don’t respect bullies…you beat them and then they respect you!

Vicki I meant to ask you about your Epping racing comment. I used to do that as well. What were you riding?

          1. I get what you are saying but the pats focus will be on the team as players.

            I drove a 390 1969 Mach I. “Slightly” modified. Back in late 60s early 70s. You ?

  12. Good morning And thanks for the update TK.

Where is the WARMTH??? 36 here. I thought it would be at least 50.

Still plenty of SNOW on the ground. I expected it to be GONE.

Watched a PATHETICALLY PUTRID PISS-POOR movie last night, “Into the Storm” OMG NEVER has a worse movie been produced and I wasted $5.99 on Demand to watch that PUKE FEST. DISGUSTING!!!!!

So, I never even got to measure. My guess is that we came in right around 2 inches.
Was snowing just before 8:30 and when I looked out just before 9 it was raining.
Snowed about 4 hours. NEVER heard sleet on the windows, so any sleet must have been brief.

I’m NOT impressed by snow chances over the next couple of weeks. Not at all.
Perhaps we’ll grab a sneaky one somewhere along the line.

Tuesday Night/Wed. just doesn’t cut it, yet anyway. Looks like an inch or so.
I’m sure the forecast will be 1-3, but right now doesn’t look more than that inch, if even that. We shall see. Euro looks most interesting. Will take a look at the Wundermap to see if there is More with that one. Hard to tell with the 24 hr increments on other maps.

Even the cold looks to be a quick hitter. The Arctic air rolls in and then rolls right on out of here.

    1. You have to give the temp time to rise. It will take most of the day and the warmest part may very well be early this evening just ahead of the cold front. The only places that won’t reach 50 today are the deep valleys.

        1. Not enough time. What is of more concern is that little wave on the warm front that turned the wind N in southeastern NH and dropped the temp back into the upper 20s this morning. Skating rink resulted.

      1. My Plan was to take down the Christmas lights in at least
relative warmth. I’ll give it till after I eat lunch and then I’m to the task, warmth or not. πŸ˜€

        1. I’m still turning mine on in full through tomorrow, then just the trees inside (and there are a lot of those) and a couple of outside bushes on January 6. The only red window lights I am leaving on are the 5 windows in the 2nd floor den that I spend most of my time in. Those will be on through Tuesday. I will leave them on Wednesday and then remove on each night until only 1 remains next Sunday and then it will go dark until next December 1. I do other smaller scale light displays in the kitchen window during the year for various holidays. πŸ™‚

            1. I live in a 2-family, 17-room house in which I decorate all 3 floors and outside. πŸ˜‰

              1. We will light our outside lights on bushes and along roof when it snows through winter. Everything else will come down but in waves and no definite time. I love main lights off and just candles or decorative lights at night. With music playing.

  13. Re: Pats-Ravens

We watched part of that game last night. I don’t care what has been said here
or elsewhere, the Pats do NOT match up well with the Ravens. Flacco WILL find receivers since the PATS Cannot rush the QB. And the Ravens Rush will give Mr. Tom fits.

Does that equate to a Pats Loss? NO. Will it be easy? NO.

I would NOT bet a single dime on this game.

If you ask me, the Pats continue to be an ENIGMA. One Never knows what one is going to get with this team. This game could be a Pats blow out, OR a Pats Loss or
anything in between. I honestly haven’t a clue. If this game resembles in any way the last few they have played, they could be in trouble. IF they play like they did against
San Diego, Cincinatti, Chicago, Detroit and Baltimore, the game is in the Bag.

    I don’t know, do you?

Bottom line it should be a great game to watch on Saturday.

    1. Good comments. Remember Pittsburgh was missing its gronk last night so perhaps the ravens didnt play as well as score showed. And I expect all games at this level to be tough and fun to watch so love your bottom line.

With regard to into the storm…..everyone here was laughing when I read your description.

      1. Yes, on offense. What did they do to stop Mr. Flacco?

In the end I am cautiously optimistic, but a realist.

        1. Revis covers 35 yr old smith. Browner covers T smith. Colin’s covers down the line with McCordy behind him. They have a lousy running game. Their strength is getting to Brady. Just my opinion.

          1. btw, I was duly IMPRESSED by that 35 year old Smith. He is DANGEROUS. Good luck to Revis covering him. This guy makes catches in a crowd.
            He makes catches when covered.

            1. Oh I agree. Cannot say enough that when you get to this point no one should expect anything. These are the best teams and players. Remember, Revis has been on his game all year too so cannot be discounted.

              1. And I believe S Smith made 5 of the 18 completions last night….may be wrong…so he of course cannot be discounted.

                1. No never meant that. They make quite a tandom and Flacco CAN get them the ball. The Pat’s will have their hands full, NOT that they can’t handle them, because they can. We shall see.

    1. Not completely unexpected. It was that little wave of low pressure on the warm front… you know the one that the Euro had about 3 days in advance. πŸ˜‰

      1. Yup, We ALL knew about that here.

I just thought you would get a charge out of the UNEXPECTED. πŸ˜€

  14. Here is another though on Warmth for today:

Dave Epstein ‏@growingwisdom 3m3 minutes ago
Cold air just too tough today, if you have any slush on driveway, walks, get it up. It’s not going to melt inland. 30s hold all afternoon.

    1. And another

AS PARENT LOW OVER EASTERN GREAT LAKES AND COASTAL WAVE ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND COAST EJECTS SEAWARD…SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL
DEVELOP AND BEGIN TO SCOUR OUT/DISLODGE SHALLOW COLD AIR. TEMPS WILL JUMP THIS AFTERNOON /PERHAPS WAITING TO MID TO LATE AFTERNOON NORTHEAST MA/ WELL INTO THE 40S INLAND AND 50S OVER EASTERN CT-RI AND EASTERN MA. LOW PROB A FEW LOCATIONS MAKE A BRIEF RUN AT 60DEGS.

60? Really? AND I’m SANTA CLAUS. Ho ho ho!!!!!

  15. NWS service re: Clipper System

    FOR NOW…LOOKS LIKE A GENERAL 1-2
INCH EVENT…THOUGH A FEW SPOTS MIGHT REACH 2-4 INCHES.

    1. Makes sense at this stage. It will likely be low water content snow with somewhere between a trace and 0.25 inch melted.

        1. Always a chance something is being missed by our best efforts at simulating the atmosphere, but I would say the chance of a surprise is very low.

    1. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone use the term “strong coating”. Inventive. πŸ™‚

    1. Truly enjoyed. Thanks OS. Will send to daughter. He is a beauty. A few times had me worried for his legs. He’s too beautiful to take too many chances. πŸ™‚

    1. Allow me to summarize.

Atmospheric indices set themselves up to result in a pattern that does not produce a lot of snow in the Lower 48 and particularly in the East. It happens.

      Well, that was easy. πŸ™‚

      1. Yes, but the BIG question is: WILL it change in time for
meaningful snow? That is squarely UP IN THE AIR.
AND the article did NOT answer that, not even with conjecture.
        DISAPPOINTED!!!

    1. Most of it will blow away Wednesday. It’ll be the type of 2 inch snowfall (assuming 2 inches) that can result in 8 inch drifts and many bare spots.

  16. Ok, here it comes. Wind it around the the South
at Beverly, Boston, Blue Hill and Norwood.

    Blue Hill South at 10MPH.

SO, I guess it looks like it WILL warm up.

    Up to 36.9 here now.

  17. Just shoveled the driveway…sucked as it was cement. Wasn’t sure if I should have or not but will see if it was wasted effort.

    1. Some people like to shovel just to make little snow piles, put them in shady sections and hope they don’t melt, used to do it many years ago, I’m not wasting my time, I notice many didn’t shovel, should be around 50 degrees this evening πŸ™‚ enjoy your day

      1. Our pile was open sun on south side and lasted from thanksgiving until just prior to Christmas. No effort to create it other than shoveling driveway.

  18. From Upton NWS office, re: Cold

A BROAD TROUGH WILL REMAIN IN PLACE ACROSS THE EASTERN US THROUGH THE WEEK COURTESY OF A LARGE VORTEX CONTINUALLY SPINNING OVER EASTERN CANADA/CANADIAN MARITIMES. THIS WILL SET UP THE SIBERIAN EXPRESS…AN AIR FLOW TAKING A NEARLY STRAIGHT PATH FROM SIBERIA OVER THE NORTH POLE…THROUGH CANADA AND INTO THE EASTERN HALF OF THE COUNTRY DUE TO THE AFOREMENTIONED VORTEX AND AN RIDGING OVER ALASKA AND WESTERN CANADA/US. THIS WILL SET THE STAGE FOR A VERY COLD AIRMASS TO INFILTRATE THE REGION DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK.

    1. It’s ramping up just above the ground

  19. Temp has jumped 2 degrees in last hour 39.9 degrees, not much snow left that fell, patchy coating

    1. You can tell it’s going up here without even looking at a thermometer. Fog is getting thicker over the cold snow/slush on the ground.

    1. Very foggy here Vicki. Hope the new year brings lots of happiness to you and your entire family and hope Mac has a health New Year.

        1. Thank you. Been a rough start with my wife sick and last night I put the dog down but I have so much to be grateful for.

          1. Oh John. I’m so sorry to hear you lost your dog. But you can be proud that you did the very best for her. She was truly lucky to have you

            1. Thanks guys. We wanted her for the holidays and got that. She went from 59 down to 39 it was time to send her on her way. It was very peaceful and I was with her. Now I have a fresh puppy that’s needs to be good lol. Lot of work.

    1. It’s amazing sometimes how a wedge of cold air can act as the surface of the Earth, so dense that the warm air just goes right over it like it’s solid.

  20. On the commuter rail from Kingston to Boston and the fog is SO thick! My son is not happy that he can’t see any planes landing or taking off from Logan.

  21. Logan received 1.4″ from this event. I am pleasantly surprised since I was expecting a half inch at best. The total at Logan to date = 4.3″. I got to use my shovel albeit just barely and it took me all of a minute and a half to push some slush from my front walkway and sidewalk.

I look forward to TK’s original Winter Outlook to verify and to use my shovel “for real” come February. πŸ˜€

  22. I’m quite happy that the snowfall forecast essentially verified to within 1/2 inch everywhere in the forecast area, including the 2-4 inch area to the NW.

Although it is taking forever, the warmer air is coming. The thicker fog announces that. Some areas in southeastern MA will indeed come within a few degrees of 60 and still have an outside shot at reaching it by early evening, otherwise 50-55 most areas, but under 50 inland lower elevations.

  23. I stand corrected. BB was right to suggest last night the cold would hang on in the Boston area. I am surprised, as we had a southeast wind and now have a west/southwest breeze. Usually, this means warmer temps than we’ve experienced today.

  24. When is it supposed to fall below freezing again? The slower approach of warm temps today has caused the snow/slush from last night to stick around in my driveway. I hadn’t planned to shovel but i don’t want to wait till it freezes either

    1. Move it in case. We won’t really go below freezing until toward dawn Monday, but only a little below, then maybe back to a bit above before it falls again.

If there is anything out there, I’d move it by later tonight at the latest.

  25. It is still 35 here. The town chose not to plow our street and just dumped tons of sand on it. If it freezes, we are in trouble.

We pay taxes in January. I figure I’ll call and see if we get a break out street isn’t plowed πŸ™‚

  26. Wild card weekend usually features good games. So far, not this time around. All three games were not only one-sided, they were mostly boring affairs with very little tension or excitement. You knew almost from the start of each game who was going to win, and the losers of all three games appeared so lackluster in their feeble attempts at coming back. I hope the Cowboys-Lions game is better, but I fear it won’t be.

  27. TK-Good forecast my friend.

I was pleased on this one. I had mentioned faster onset, went with general 2″ with the exception of the South Coast and then up to 4″ amounts to the North and West. The 4″ was a bit of a stretch, but I saw a report or two with that amount. Noted the cooler valley locations. Erred a bit with timing on the transition to plain rain across SNE.

Models were a mix with all of them showing strengths and weakness. The GFS/GGEM/UKMET had the primary low track nailed 5 days out. GFS/UKMET got too warm and lost the mixed precip signal and went snow to rain and I bit on that a little too much. ECMWF had the right idea holding onto cold with a subtle 2nd low hint. However it had too much precip, held on to the significant precip too long, and was overdone on snowfall as on Friday it wanted to put 4-7″ down in SNE north of the pike west of 495. All similar issues to what has been going on with it for 18 plus months. NAM was pretty good inside 36 hours. A little slow to transition from snow to sleet and sleet to freezing rain but it had the best signal for a longer period of PL and FZRA just a bit too cold. The Hardly Reliable Resolution model had a good day too. Too intense on the precip but got the stubborn cold right.

I wrote all that to say that it takes a model blend and some applied meteorology to get a forecast right, not blind faith in a single model and that is why get so frustrated with the model huggers and the ECMWF acolytes. They all have their highs and lows (pun intended) use them to inform, not to preach blind faith! Thus why I hate these futurecast / model based snowfall forecasts that are becoming far too prevelant on TV news.

I know things are trending drier with Tuesday, but don’t totally sleep on that yet. It all depends where the best energy sets up and still think a fluffy, but scattered accumulation is likely in parts of the region.

    1. Thank you JMA!

I was happy with the snow/mix/rain – not as happy with today’s temps. Warm air flooding in aloft but having so much trouble getting down to the surface. We needed a stronger gradient, and that miniscule wave of low pressure on the warm front that pulled part of the front back to the south did us in as far as the daytime hours went.

Still figure a brief warm-up tonight before the front sweeps through from the west.

  28. Thanks TK and JMA.

Still 39.6 here. Still snow around, although most has faded away…err melted.

    1. Thanks oldsalty we got the same breed in honor of her and hope she will be as good. I feel at peace letting her go as it was time. Who ever came up with the saying a dog is a mans best friend could not have been more true with Molly , just a wonderful family devoted dog just unreal.

      1. Hi John…sorry to hear about Molly. I’ve been in that situation before and it’s never easy.

    1. If I cheer for them it’ll have to be silently in this house. Jennifer is NOT a Cowboys fan… at all. πŸ˜›

But she does hate the Raiders more and was quite happy at how bad they were. πŸ˜‰

      1. Hmmmmm. Not sure how to help. Maybe explain You are doing it for the WHW family πŸ™‚

I like cowboys. After all mac Davis starred in north Dallas forty :). And yes my logic can be a bit skewed at times.

        1. I don’t like either team. But when that’s the case I usually root for the visiting team or the team that has better uniforms. I don’t like the Cowboys uniforms at all. I think they should switch to a combination of dust-brown and light-sand.

The combination they are wearing right now is atrocious. But hey, they’re just uniforms, right? πŸ˜‰

          1. And I thought my reasoning was questionable πŸ˜† And I’m not going to tell JJ cause you’ll make him feel bad and then I’ll be sad πŸ™

  29. The 18z GFS at hr 60 is the epitomy of being completely in between the fading clipper and the reforming offshore low.

I’ll trade a little Tuesday snow for a chance at snow squalls on the 2 arctic fronts this week.

I know most towns miss them (squalls), but if you get one, I think they are one of winter’s best offerings.

  30. Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Do thunderstorms occur in every state?

    A. Yes
    B. No

    The answer is A, Yes.

    1. Snow showers with a disturbance. It’s not going to be a week where we get a lot of snow, amount-wise. Just several instances where snow can fall. Clipper Tuesday, disturbance and Arctic front Wednesday and again Friday.

    1. As long as you are not still wearing them, you should be ok :). Im so jealous you enjoyed storm at the beach.

  31. Flag pick-up after an obvious pass interference in the Cowboys-Lions game should be investigated. I’m serious. That may be the most egregious mistake made by officials in a long time. Plus, it sets a very bad precedent. If the other team complains enough, you can get a call `overturned.’

  32. More media issues:
Local TV station this evening: For Monday, the verbal mention was for isolated snow squalls with heavy bursts of snow, the graphic indicated flakes with the description stating “light snow”. So, which one is it?

  33. I wonder how JJ is doing right about now ……..

They fumbled they game winning recovery ….. HOW !!!!

    1. They won. In the words of a very famous person whose initials are topkatt…..a win is a win.

And if we can concentrate to help the cowboys to win just think of what the WHW crew can do for the pats.

      1. LOL Yes we’ll see…

I didn’t really watch the game but I heard a rumor that the ref crew handed Dallas a victory. I’m sure that was overstated to some degree.

  34. 4 or 5 days like today in a month ……. where you get to the end of the month thinking …… “it was a cold month” and the temperature ends up above average. πŸ™‚

  35. Hi everyone!!! WOW what a thrilling victory. First time in postseason history coming back from 10 points down to win a game. No matter what happens rest of the way this has been a great season. Now on to the Green Bay which will not be easy. We need to play a lot better than we did today to beat them.

  36. Thanks Vicki… It would have been disappointing after the season they had to lose the first playoff game. Now in my opinion no matter what happens its a great season. Green Bay will not be easy.

  37. TK, regarding the controversial `call,’ not an overstatement at all to say that it played a major part in determining the outcome of the game. Had the flag not been picked up, the Lions would have had a good chance at winning the game. The flag pick-up after an obvious pass interference, with no explanation from the referees as to why they picked up the flag, should be investigated. But of course it won’t. Goodell can’t be trusted for doing anything in an honest way. He’s very good at making money for himself and his owners. He’s very bad at being forthright. I have always believed there’s a culture of complacency in the league regarding injuries (eg, concussions), criminal records/behavior of an incredible number of players, and poor/inconsistent officiating which almost always is skewed towards home teams, and that includes the Patriots when they play at Foxboro. Moreover, upper levels of NFL management are cash-driven to a point that is truly revolting. Finally, there is an insidious lack of transparency and honesty across all aspects of the league, and this includes officiating.

Please note, I am a neutral fan and do not care whether the Cowboys or Lions win the game. I do, however, care about fairness and an even playing field.

No more rants from me, but I did feel compelled to rant.

    1. I will say the refs this year have been horrid in a lot of the games with different teams just horrendous. I didn’t see this one so not talking about this one.

    2. Joshua you are right about the call. It was unquestionably pass interference. Sadly, well before it I had made the comment here well before the bad call that not only hadnt the Dallas O shown up but the refs didnt either. There were several calls that were bad….or totally missed. There is no excuse for that in a playoff game.

  38. I might be one of few Cowboys fans to say we got a gift with the flag being picked up.
In my mind every team gets gift calls in this league. You don’t know if the LIons would have scored a touchdown there if the flag was not picked up. Lets say they score a field goal. Cowboys still would have won game by one.

    1. I agree the original call of pass interference was the right call …..

Detroit though has no one to blame but themselves. They dominated a good part of the game and it felt like they should have been much further ahead. Had they done that, the officials error would not have mattered.

Control what you can, good luck with what is left to others.

      1. Cowboys match up well with Green Bay, at least when Dallas has the ball.

Green Bay is much smaller in its defensive front than Detroit is. DeMarco Murray is going to have a field day and that will help them keep the ball away from Rodgers and co.

I like Dallas next week to win.

  39. Early Championship game predictions …..

    Indianapolis @ New England

    Dallas @ Seattle

    Recap …

    New England over Baltimore

    Indianapolis over Denver

    Dallas over Green Bay

    Seattle over Carolina

  40. If Rodgers can’t scramble to make plays if the calf is bothering him that is big.
Michael Irvin former Cowboy who I heard on sports talk radio said the Packers don’t defend the run well. He also went on to say Cowboys could crash the party and make the Super Bowl. My attitude is one game at a time and I am not looking pass Green Bay.

    1. Yes …. When the Pats lost at Green Bay earlier in the season, one of the biggest post game questions was ….. Why didnt the Pats run more ?

As I recall, the few times they did run, Blount was rambling for 6 and 7 yard runs and Murray is superior to Blount. I would agree with Michael Irvin’s take.

  41. I wonder if the Cape sees a thunderstorm ? Some red echoes down around Long Island. The rain is picking up here.

  42. There undefeated on the road the Cowboys are an went in and beat Seattle earlier in the year. They were down 10 nothing in that hostile environment and won. Different Seattle team now that playing better and healthier but I will be rooting for Carolina because I don’t want to make that trip to Seattle

  43. Logan surpasses 50F, now 51F.

The dome is removed from Norwood as it jumps from 39F to 52F …

    and, school’s back tomorrow, hello 6 am. πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

    1. I’m sure the majority do. And then there are us non-wimps who make the best of where we are. πŸ™‚ Harsh? Maybe. Do I care? No. Let them go. Adios! I’ll stay where I am thanks. πŸ˜€

All other animals adapt. The majority of humans complain. Spoiled brats. πŸ˜›

Oh well, enough editorializing. If I did that about everything I wanted, nobody would like me. πŸ˜€

      Time to update the blog!

        1. πŸ˜€
That was not meant to be harsh toward you, just general statements. I get tired of the constant whining sometimes and how it is portrayed in news.

Mild air took care of all the remaining slush out there this evening it looks like.
