Monday Forecast Update

7:15AM

DAYS 1-5…
After a long delay for Boston’s first 90 of the Summer (they finally got there at 1:53PM Sunday), they actually have a shot at a heatwave if things happen just right. Heat is still hanging around today and Tuesday and will wait until a second cold front sweeps across the region Tuesday evening with a few showers and thunderstorms, introducing a cooler and drier air mass for the second half of the week. Before that, the boundary that caused yesterday’s storms well north and well west of Boston will be sitting over southeastern MA today and will ignite a few showers and thunderstorms in that region midday into the afternoon hours.
TODAY: Cloudiness along the South Coast and across Cape Cod to start with sunshine dominating elsewhere, then sun returns briefly to South Coast before clouds redevelop across that region with scattered midday and afternoon showers and thunderstorms, moving offshore later in the day while elsewhere remains mostly sunny. Highs in the 80s South Coast, 88-93 elsewhere. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 60s. Wind light W to SW.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of late-day and evening showers and thunderstorms. Highs 78-85 South Coast, 85-92 elsewhere. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 58-65. Highs 78-85.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 56-63. Highs 76-83.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 55-62. Highs 75-82.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 25-29)…
Warming trend weekend of July 25-26 with mainly dry weather Saturday and a chance of showers/thunderstorms by later Sunday. Showers/thunderstorms possible Monday July 27. Dry and warmer for the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 30-AUGUST 3)…
Continued expectation of above normal temperatures and mostly below normal rainfall during the period.

This surface map isn’t very old and it shows that the front is NO where near us
yet. Boston 6AM dew point still 72. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/90fwbg.gif

It’s 6:57AM now and it is 77.2 Degrees here!!!

Now that it’s not forecast, watch the roof get blown off later this morning. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    Addition

So based on TK’s last remarks, is this the new front? Or what?

Very confusing couple of days of weather for me.
My faith in computer models has gone out the window. They are USELESS!!!
PATHETIC performance of the HRRR yesterday. PUTRID.

I think the NAM performed the best.

It is a STINKER out there. A STINKER! YUCK YUCK and double YUCK!!!

    8am Boston dew point = 72 and temperature at 8AM is 82.
The dew point is STILL 70 at Albany. Wind still SW at Albany
    Dew point 74 at Norwood

  2. To Answer North from last night. The closest Dairy Queen to our location
is Quincy with Weymouth a close second. I am not aware of any closer to us. πŸ˜€

  3. Heatwave would be awesome as to me this is summer weather . It’s tough at work out in the field in jeans, Boots and a polo but I love it.

  4. I see a chance for storms tomorrow and those storms should they fire look to be garden variety at best.
Wednesday into the weekend the weather looks nice

  5. Our labs are temporarily shut down this morning. The humidity inside the building is out of spec for the instruments. First time I’ve seen that in the 8+ years I’ve been here.

    1. Sounds like a serious deficiency in the HVAC equipment.
Shame on them. BUT, great for you as long as you get paid for the day!

  6. I feel bad for the big golf fans who have to work today and can’t see the final round of the Open Championship. Its shaping up to be a great final round.

    1. Mac has his three week chemo round today but we are recording. He just needs to stay away from the news

      1. You got a couple story lines in final round. An amateur could win a major Speith going continues his quest
for the calendar grand slam Louis Oostuazen going for back to back wins at St. Andrews Jason Day trying to get his
        first career Major Title

  7. Thanks, TK.

We just got a light shower or 2 last evening. Looked potentially exciting earlier in the day but most of it stayed up north. In any case, the summer isn’t over and I’m sure we’ll have our share of strong/severe thunderstorms before the fall weather sets in.

I shut off the A/C early this morning for awhile – and ‘though it’s warm and still kind of humid enjoying the summery light and warm air. New England summers generally run short – before you know it, it will be fall/winter again. Some of us will be missing this HHH come nxt. winter when it’s 20 degrees out w/heavy snow. I love all the seasons so I try to enjoy all of them.

But very likely I will be putting on the A/C soon – once sun gets around and comes more into the house it will get too hot.

    1. Kind of Humid???? Well that’s an understatement. It’s still as humid as yesterday. Absolutely NO drying whatsoever, so far anyway.

      1. Yesterday I went outside briefly, during the early afternoon. It was brutal. We went outside for a little walk awhile ago and it was just bearable. There are a lot of trees around our house so now it isn’t too bad – I’m not saying it is dry out. It’s humid – it’s sticky. Just enjoying the summer air. My husband says I don’t mind the heat and humidity because I’m small and thin. I don’t know about that. In any case, the A/C will be on shortly. I just hope Mrs. OS is feeling ok w/this heat and humidity and I’m sure she will feel better at the end of the wk. when it gets much drier.

        1. I am small and thin but I don’t know that is why I can bear the heat and humidity a little better than my husband. He isn’t heavy but certainly bigger than me!

        2. Thank you. She is having a rough time.
I thought it was going to be better today, but it’s just
as Brutal and I’m not happy about it.

    2. rainshine, you are very brave!!! – turning off the A/C! Is it back on yet? lol πŸ™‚

      1. Not yet – but soon! I’m not brave (maybe foolish) but I just like to enjoy the birds singing (we have a lot of them) and the summery air. But it does reach a point – the A/C will be on soon.

  8. 10:30, and we’ve just topped 90F here in Wrentham. Already hotter than yesterday, cloud cover held me at 89F for a high yesterday.

  9. At 11AM Boston is up to 89 with Dew point of 67. That dew point is a bit better.

Albany dew point down to 60 with wind from 300.

  10. John, you’re a tougher man than I. I really cannot handle this weather. As a kid, I handled it fine. I enjoyed it and all extremes. But, I’m finding that as I age my ability to overcome heat decreases. A 25 minute walk to work turns me into a tired puddle of sweat. My morning jog is not enjoyable, as it is in fall, spring, and most of the winter.

Thankfully, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. I see `cooler’ temps later this week, not a lot of >85F weather in the mid- to long-range, and September is right around the corner. Yes, it can be hot in September, but it’s a different kind of heat that’s less intense and long-lasting.

    1. Fall aeration over seeding are already being scheduled. It always comes fast. A mini vacation in the beginning of August, then it’s go time until mid Oct. then back to fertilizers and winterizers Late Oct into the beginning of Dec, then the end πŸ™‚

    2. Joshua,

I am with you and I am also older than you.
I was commenting to Mrs. Os last night that I could actually feel it
in my chest when trying to breathe in this Crappy air.

It’s even worse for Mrs. OS.

      1. Feel bad for mrs old salty. I love this but I feel bad for the people it bothers . Hang in there .

  11. It’s 95 in pembroke wow. Can’t go in pool heading to a wake. It was hot working outside today.

    1. You sure that’s not the heat index John? I know its hot but i havent seen reports of mid 90s anywhere

      1. I believe so. Wbz driving home said it was 93 in marshfield and when I got home I had 95. Sounds right as marshfield is next to me and pembroke usually runs a few degrees warmer.

            1. No Way. Something is wrong. Latest from Marshfield is 91. Logan is 91
Plymouth is 90 Norwood is 91

      1. You sent 3 landscapers home because it was hot, wow that is crazy sorry. I’m a grounds keeper/ laborer and I can’t believe that you sent them home. I work in extreme cold, extream heat rain, wind you name it as its part of the Job.

  12. 4 PM Obs. @ Logan:

    Temp = 91
    Dp = 64

That should do it for the high temp, but probably not “official” just yet. Will it be one more day of 90+ tomorrow for an official heat wave? UGH!!!!!!

  13. Beginning to look like Eastern sections get more rain tomorrow
than the highly touted non-event of yesterday. πŸ˜€

  14. Just watched channel 5, and I have to agree with there news team, “no complaining” not after the terrible winter we had. Also have to agree that we are praying for a mild winter. All we can do is hope. πŸ™‚

    1. Odds strongly favor a mild winter thanks to El Nino which is likely to last through early Spring.

  15. Brutal out there today, topped out at 94F here. Hottest day of the year? Wouldn’t rule it out but long way to go obviously. Bring on the real cold front!!

  16. Is it me, or am I seeing the models correct? Cooler at the end of the week into early next week. Temps look to be around 80, with a couple days in the upper 70’s?

  17. No surprises today…

Hot temps, but lower dew points…in fact 5 to 10 degrees lower by this afternoon than the same time yesterday. A few showers/t-storms far southeastern MA and southern RI.

Tomorrow’s cold front will produce very little around here. Genuine dry air arrives Wednesday through Friday. Coolest day will be Friday. Temp rebound over the weekend and a gradual return to humidity. Cold front may mess up part of Sunday.

  18. Hoping next week turns out nice. Yearly family vacation to Stowe, VT, with lots of outdoor activities planned Tue-Fri. Seeing a lot of conflicting signals, but overall remain optimistic, at the very least it doesn’t look like a washout period.

    1. Beautiful area. And perfect place for a family vacation. I sure hope the weather is great for you. Mac’s uncle built a lodge on the side of a “mountain” in Morrisville 40 plus years ago. Mac’s cousin owns it now. We have been blessed to be able to spend many lovely family vacations there.

      1. Very cool! We rent out a week at the Trapp Lodge in Stowe, never anything but positive experiences πŸ™‚

        1. That is very good to know. We are getting too large for the lodge. Do,you rent rooms or a cabin ?

          1. We do a unit in one of the cabins, there’s 5 of us so we manage to squeeze in without much difficulty, any more than that and it would start to get tight.

            1. That is really good to know. We could check into a unit for the overflow. Thank you. And again wishing you a very special family vacation.

          1. Hmmmm. Maybe I will turn off TV and head to the porch. I’m into a marathon of Dr Quinn Medicine Woman. No laughing :). Mac has retreated to the bedroom TV πŸ™‚

                1. There was a marathon on the Sundance Channel. Won’t be swimming in the ocean for a while, Mrs. North never again.

  19. Good morning.

I still think chances of rain/thunder better today than on Sunday.
Still not a guarantee. We shall see.

IF one believe the piss-poor-performing HRRR then, much better.
Nam gets us as well, so we shall see.

Cape is adequate but not impressive. There is dry air aloft which could limit things, so
we’ll just have to wait and see.

  20. Re Red Sox.

Remember the discussion about Dan Shaughnessy calling the red sox Fool’s Gold.
After their recent performance, who could argue with him. They teased us with 4 wins
in a row, but couldn’t finish it off with the Yankees, winning 1 of 3 from them AND then AND then, what a performance in Anaheim. Oh Boy. STINKORAMA!!!!!
POOTHETICVILLE!!! Indeed, they were Fool’s Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND WHY oh WHY oh WHY oh WHY does the manager insist on NOT putting the best team on the field night after night after night. What an IDIOTIC MORON CRAPMASTER that TURD is!(@#((!@#()&!@*&#!&*(@#&*(!@*#&!&@#(&
Did anyone look at Ortiz trying to swing against the Lefty Santiago yesterday?
OH boy that was DISGUSTING. I could put a better swing on the ball Even at my age! PUTRID! PUTRID! PUTRID! and WHY is Crapoli playing. yeaH I know he got a hit. Pure luck is all. Didn’t even look good. SHIP his ass out of town will ya!!!!!!!

I am SICK TO DEATH of this team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
