Saturday Forecast

9:56AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 10-14)…
A fabulous Columbus Day Weekend as high pressure slides in from the northwest today, crests over New England tonight and early Sunday, then slides off to the south later Sunday and Monday. High pressure brings more weather than many realize, and we’ll see that the next 3 days, with a cool gusty breeze today as the ground dries out from yesterday’s showers and plenty of sun shines, though a few fair weather clouds will pop up and float across the sky in parts of the region as the sun heats the moisture lifting off the ground. We’ll see patches of high cloudiness at times as well crossing the sky from northwest to southeast especially tonight and part of Sunday as it starts to warm up aloft. But tonight, it will be clear enough and calm enough with high pressure moving overhead for good radiational cooling and areas of frost forming. Beyond the holiday weekend comes a cold front with just a risk of passing showers Tuesday. Low pressure to the south will track northeastward and pass well offshore with no impact. Another high pressure area moves in Wednesday with dry and nice October weather.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 55-60. Wind NW 15-25 MPH through midday, diminishing this afternoon.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Areas of frost especially valleys, swamps, bogs, and other relative low areas. Lows in the 30s except 40-45 urban areas and immediate shore. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-70. Wind light W early then WSW increasing to 10-20 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-48 interior valleys, 48-53 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY – COLUMBUS DAY: Sunny. Highs 70-75 South Coast, 75-80 elsewhere. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows 55-62. Highs 68-75.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 45-52. Highs 58-65.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 15-19)…
A chill-off with fair weather October 15-16 and a few rain/snow showers possible October 17-18. Temperature moderation with fair weather October 19.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 20-24)…
In contrast to what I thought recently, the pattern will still be dominated by a northern jet stream but it will be a little more amplified in a ridge West, tough Northeast configuration, which points to cooler than normal temperatures and a few episodes of unsettled weather, but no major storms. Will refine this with time.

A magnitude-4.4 earthquake shook people in Oklahoma and Kansas early Saturday morning.

The temblor occurred at 4:20 a.m. CDT Saturday (5 a.m. EDT), with an epicenter 11 miles southwest of Medford, Oklahoma, and at a depth of 4 miles, the United States Geological Survey reported. It was initially listed as a magnitude-4.8 earthquake.

    1. Never. It’s going to be below normal. If anything, a chilly October with a pretty good indication of a mild November solidifies that thought process.

        1. It could, but I think when you see my Winter forecast later this Fall you’ll understand my reasoning, and then we’ll see what goes down. πŸ™‚

  2. Daa Daaa da da da, dada dada dada da da daaaa.

I woke up humming this song and couldn’t figure out why until I realized today is Hadi’s son’s birthday. Ironman!

Is Ozzy the special musical guest?

Have a special Hadi! And everyone else! Enjoy a great weekend!

    Thanks, TK! Go Pats!

  3. Btw, not that it is any surprise, but the GFS fantasy storm from the 18Z Run, is long
    gone! πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

  4. Lawn care question for y’all:

Is it too late to plant grass? I have some winter damage on a few places on the lawn. I’d like to throw down some loam this weekend and plant grass seed there.

    Charlie? Anyone?

    1. Just leave it alone. The surround grassing will eventually fill it.
But this is coming from someone who does NOTHING to his lawn.
no water. no fertilizer. No lime. No grub control. And only an occasional mowing. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  5. Thanks tk πŸ™‚

Captain fantastic: it is not to late to seed, going past October 20th or so becomes to late, if your applying some thick loam and seed, all you need is for the seed to germinate, and be about 1 inch, after that it’s established. πŸ™‚

        1. Even though in general, we live in an area of plentiful water. Even so, it drives me nuts to see it wasted on something as frivolous as one’s lawn.

    1. Wow. It seems as if we the only dull area. Everything is green. Daughter heading to Leichester and said 495 north is beautiful.

          1. Ohhhh now I hear extras. What does that mean? I know we will not use pandora but kids have Netflix account so will use that and Amazon prime.

    1. 1/2 hour ago. BFD was awesome. All set now. Made fast work of it.

Don’t know the folks who live there. We know neighbor 2 doors down.
They had just come back from shopping. We sure heard the fire equipment and radios.

    2. Newly Purchased. Being Renovated. Not occupied. That’s a good thing.
Don’t know if any workers were hurt or not.

  6. Our new family member is a black lab/pointer mix born 03/14/14. He has been named Blue. Although I like Boo.

    1. Wow that happened fast, that’s great . I also think it’s good that it’s not a new puppy as for us we can’t take that again as this one has been bad. She will be a year next month . The lab is a great dog. I really miss my dog as this doodle is not even close to what she was but in fairness she is still a baby. Good luck.

      1. Thank you both. So,far he has been with daughter and her family and come in to visit occasionally. Kind of a like a grandchild. We get to play with him and enjoy him without the responsibility. They are flipping on the name. Either dunkin or blue. I’m going with boo but no one is listening to me

  7. New blog posted.

Don’t be surprised to see timing tweaks in the 6-10/11-15 a little more than usual during the pattern of this month.
