Monday Forecast

7:33AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 9-13)…
High pressure today – cool and bright. Low pressure approaches from the southwest Tuesday and sends clouds into the region but the rain may fail a little as it tries to move through late in the day and at night, with much of it staying off to the southeast. We’ll see if a heavier band or two get involved over parts of southeastern MA and RI. Low pressures lingers a little bit Wednesday, Veterans Day, and may result in clouds and some damp weather hanging on. Another system approaches from the west Thursday with more cloudiness and eventual rain showers, then look for this system to push a front through by Friday which will turn out to be a windy and cooler day with drier conditions returning.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs around 60. Wind W to SW 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Wind light SW to SE.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain mainly southern MA and RI later in the day. Highs in the 50s. Wind SE to E 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Areas of fog possible. Lows in the 40s. Wind E to NE 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY – VETERANS DAY: Cloudy to partly sunny. Lingering rain possible especially early and eastern areas. Highs in the 50s. Wind N to NW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Cloudy. PM rain showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
FRIDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Windy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 14-18)…
Mainly dry weather during the period with temperatures near to above normal.

  1. Dr. Cohen’s blog is due to be updated sometime today, usually in the evening
    sometime.

I will digest that and then prepare my final snow estimate numbers
    for the Winter.

That should be fun to say the least.

  2. Thank you TK

TK hope you don’t mind my asking. I know there are several folks here to have experience in the medical field. Does anyone know of a private home care service? thank you 🙂

    1. Did you say hospice was coming Vicki? They should be able to handle all of your needs if not have them contact visiting nurses. I’m very sorry that this is happening and anything you may need please let us know.

      1. I thought so too SSK but they are here only a few hours a week for various reasons…nurse, home health aid, social worker,,Etc all add up to about 5 weekly hours and it is not daily for any. I thought there was more hands on.

    2. Vicki,

There are all sorts of services available through your local Aging Access Point.

In your case, it would be Bay Path in Marlboro.

Please check out this website for additional information.
I am hopeful you can find what you need. If you have any problems,
I can contact someone there to assist you.

      http://www.baypath.org/

They offer a multitude of services, some of which may be a big help to you.

      Best of luck.

      1. Thank you very much I called but they cannot set up services for 4-6 weeks. They did send names of private facilities.

  3. Good news for snow haters from this tweet from meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan
Just looked at the Euro Seasonals for winter…. No blocking, active storm track, warmer than average for DJF here.

  4. JP Dave I was just thinking that after I posted the tweet. Last winter there was no negative NAO with the record snowfall season for Boston. In the Blizzard of 2013 that NAO was slightly positive. There are so many other factors to look at.

    1. Yes, indeed. That’s what makes a Winter forecast, especially snowfall
      so difficult.

Think about it. The whole Snow Forecast could be busted with one moisture laden storm that ends up rain, instead of snow OR vice versa. Too many
      factors to screw it up.

Forecasting Winter snow totals is virtually impossible, BUT it is fun to
take a stab at it regardless.

First of all we need enough moisture to make the totals.
Then we need enough of that moisture to fall in the form of snow.

With El Nino, how will that affect both?? Ahh, that is the multi-million
      dollar question.

  5. Too early to really say much about the upcoming winter. I think forecasting will be tricky throughout the winter. El Nino, lack of blocking, do suggest a mild, relatively snowless winter. But, a. El Nino will break down over time; b. even when El Nino’s present, it will not impact our weather at all times; c. blocking is one ingredient that `helps’ snow materialize but is not a necessary component; c. there’s already a lot of really cold air up north. If you click on the link below and scroll down you will see ice formation in Canadian waters. Ice formation has been rapid this past week and is slightly ahead of schedule once again (3rd straight year).

    1. Pete Bouchard mentioned last night that the arcitc cold is currently restricted to northern Canada only while southern sections are still relatively mild and there is no indication that the arctic airmass will be moving southward into the U.S. anytime soon.

  6. I think we will have one sizeable storm this winter and it will come in February. What I mean by sizeable widespread double digit snowfall totals. In the winter of 82-83 which had a strong El Nino there was a sizeable storm that delivered a wide swath of 10-20 inches from Mid Atlantic in SNE. Now we three or more of those type of storms this winter snowfall COULD be closer to if not just above normal for season.

  7. I will post this one last time but if anyone else wishes to re-post these numbers later this week just prior to the contest deadline may certainly do so. Good luck everyone! 🙂

    Seasonal Snowfall Averages:

    Boston/Logan = 43.8″
    Worcester = 61.4″
    Providence = 33.8″
    Hartford = 40.5″

  8. Thanks tk 🙂

Had a great time at the game, left when it was 27-3 with .35 seconds left, Patriots dominated!! Onto the Giants 🙂

    1. Giants, Jets and Bronco’s all away, three possible losses. Though seeing the Bronco’s loose to the colts made me happy.

also who knew the vikings and Packers would be tied for first in the NFC north.

      Panthers have Proven themselves.

Now the sign for ski season

  9. Philip, I agree that the current pattern is NOT favorable for dragging in cold air from way up north. But, it’s November 9th. Patterns do change. We’re actually seeing some pivoting of very cold air southward towards Newfoundland/Labrador and central Quebec this week. This will abate, but return soon after.

  10. We are absolutely loving this weather, truck temp says 60 degrees!! 🙂
Thanksgiving is only 17days away, Christmas is only 42 days away!! 49 days left till 2016!! Enjoy!! 🙂

  11. Drove by Lake Sabbatia in Taunton yesterday. It’s been a long time since I have seen it that low. Parts of the shore look like low tide.

Maybe the rain on the way will fill up the lakes and rivers a bit.

  12. We have a Tropical storm and it is Kate.

    Destined to stay off shore.

Will there be a finger of God linking up with tomorrow night’s
    system? Ahh, good question.

  13. Dion Lewis injury is very bad news for the Patriots. He’s integral to the success of the offense, especially against teams with good (speedy) defense. Bolden and Blount are too slow to `replace’ Lewis. They’re useful backs, but not nearly as nimble or multi-faceted. I’m hoping White can fill in for Lewis, but I’m afraid he’s not up to the task. Maybe Kevin Faulk can come out of retirement.

    1. CRAP!!! Torn ACL, season ending injury! Damn!! We can’t catch a break.

There were reports that it was just a strain. Guess not.

Yup, that one hurts BIG time!

      Your assessment is spot on.

I like White, but he is not the same.

Fortunately, We have other weapons and Brady will have to do his
best to utilize what he has to continue winning. Example: Boldon Td yesterday. I liked White earlier this year. He will help, but NOT take the
      place of Lewis.

      1. Injuries could be a huge determining factor as we head deeper into the season . Could be a huge factor if they continue to stack up , I hope not.

        1. Afraid so. The team best built to withstand those injuries
          has a better chance.

The Pat’s injury situation could be their undoing.
          Let us hope not.

    1. I remember that day well.

I was attending Northeastern University at the time and was on a bus
headed home when I noticed that it was awfully dark everywhere. It never got light all the way home to Millis, a bus ride of about 21 miles. It was spooky when I got home. No lights, no TV, no radio. NOTHING!!!

It was a bit frightening to tell the truth, since it was such an enormous
      outage.

I only learned what was happening the next morning.

      1. I remember it well also. I said on FB that many thought it was aliens. We didn’t really think of terrorism back then. I think I prefer aliens.

I went out and walked around the neighborhood. I loved blackouts even then. And a single girl could walk around then as well. How we have changed

  14. Tk big warm up next week? I just heard that mid 60’s are likely for many days. I know it’s 5+ days away, but just seeing if you concur. Thank you!! 🙂

  15. Doubt 1-2 inches. Nam is overdone for most areas. I doubt an inch in Boston but maybe you are right further south.

  16. Its a quick mover as well.

Crappy news about Lewis, but Pats are so good that they can handle injuries better than most teams. Next man up.

  17. Vicki
Did bay path have anything at all to help?
Or were the private services better
    Suited for you?
4-6 weeks does not sound right.

They should be able to hook you up
Sooner. DID you speak with an intake
Person or a cm or just some on who
    Answered a phone?

I may be able to help with the
    Process. Just let me know.

    Thanks

      1. Thank you Dave. They do offer 3 hours a week but I’m afraid we need more than that and it will have to be a private service. You are very kind to offer to help. I will definitely let you know. I am blessed by my friends here …special Angels

    1. He is reading here to see what we think.

I will plan to work on list of snow predictions Wednesday. I have not turned computer on for about a week but am getting back to work 🙂

    2. At the top of the previous blog it said to expect delays in the blog during the next 2 weeks.

  18. Lewis is a major loss, but the patriots are the best team in the nfl as in the next man up. Next week we will see shane in a new Yuck giants team, Lewis was a major loss but the next man up.

  19. As suspected he way systems have gone this summer and fall.

@ericfisher: Model trend this evening is to take some bite out of rain/wind next 36 hours. Will discuss on #wbz news at 11pm.
