Friday Forecast

9:18AM

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 8-12)…
Complex but fairly weak low pressure will take the next 3 days to squeeze itself mainly south of New England, and with a small area of high pressure to the north for part of the time, we’ll be on the cool and non-severe weather side of this system. This part is good news. What could be better news but is not is that I don’t expected all that beneficial rain from it as it will be a disorganized system with weak upper level support as low pressure above it is stretched out. The best support in the upper levels may come as the system departs later Sunday. All in all the theme will be for spotty and very light showers most of the time, with a couple opportunities for a larger area of light to moderate showers coming through from time to time, mainly tonight and in the early hours of Sunday based on current timing. By Monday and Tuesday, we’ll re-emerge into a bright and dry weather pattern with a warming trend.
TODAY: Overcast through the morning with spotty very light rain/drizzle mainly south of Boston and an isolated heavier shower on Nantucket for a while. Mostly cloudy with isolated showers this afternoon. Highs from the middle to upper 60s coast, lower to middle 70s inland. Wind variable but mainly E 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy early, then cloudy with a period of showers overnight. Lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Wind light E.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Spotty light showers and drizzle. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind E to NE 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Better chance of showers coming late at night. Lows from the lower to middle 60s. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly to variably cloudy. Scattered showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Highs from the upper 60s coast to 70s elsewhere. Wind NE to N 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the middle 50s to lower 60s. Highs from the upper 70s to lower 80s.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the upper 50s to middle 60s. Highs from the lower to middle 80s.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 13-17)…
High pressure at the surface and upper levels will bring fair and very warm to hot weather July 13-14 with gradually increasing humidity. Humid with a risk of showers/thunderstorms July 15-16 as a weakening front moves into the region. High pressure brings fair/warm weather back by the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 18-22)…
A similar pattern with fair and warm to hot weather to start, followed by more humidity and a risk of showers/thunderstorms.

    1. For me, personally, it’s all good. I’ve had an incredible run of great weather for all my outdoor activities, fireworks aplenty, cookout, beach trips, walks, etc. And now I have a rare 3 day period in which I will be the only one home as everyone else is off camping with friends or at a conference out of state. So this is a weekend for music and getting this place organized, and the weather could not be more perfect for me, not that beautiful weather that wants to make you drop your chores and go outside again, and no real storms to chase. So it may sound a bit selfish, but I’ll take it!

But before I spend the majority of the weekend here at the WHW home office, I’m taking myself out to brunch at my favorite diner up along Route 1 somewhere. 😀

      1. I enjoy time when there are tons of people around but there is always something special about the alone times too. Enjoy, TK. And thank you for your update today!

      1. I grew up about a mile from there. In the 80’s and 90’s you could never get a place to park even passed 10 pm

        1. Most of the spaces are full as of 10:45AM. No surprise there, even on a weekday.

          1. There used to be a great seafood restaurant across rt 1 called Mcintyres (bank now). Was always just as busy. Had a lot of great summer nights there with fried clams…

  1. Horrible day for July. I know I know, the usual upbeat folks will like it. 🙂
But for me this absolutely blows chunks. No beneficial rain, and damned cold, IN JULY Yuck!!

    1. It’s not ideal July weather, especially for those who are shelling out big bucks on a beach vacation rental. ……… Perhaps hang your hat on the warmth/heat coming the middle and end of next week.

Personally, I’m thankful for the gloom without productive rain. It still allows to be outside, but not be miserable in the heat/humidity.

  2. Regarding yesterday’s sharp temperature contrast (67 Boston vs. 93 NYC) my own house was pleasantly cool and refreshing inside the “east” end while warm and stuffy inside the “west” end even though windows are open all over the house. I just thought it was rather fascinating is all. 😉

  3. Still muggy here but back door cold front came through enough where no heat wave in CT. I am not at all disappointed by that.

  4. Quite often the 12km, and even more the 4km NAM will depict low level cloudiness as precipitation. Take note of this and watch for this model weakness if you use these.

    1. To add something, the HRRR does not have this problem and this model has also been doing reasonably well of late. I expect it to handle the short range fairly well during this stretch too.

  5. You’d think the weather had been like this for 2 months straight… 😉

Not every day can be like most of June was. 😀

Latest short range guidance and visible satellite shows there may be some decent intervals of sunshine mid to late afternoon, so the day will not be this disaster that the media has brainwashed many into thinking it would be. Nor will tomorrow. Not a stellar weekend upcoming by any stretch but not a washout either. As my leaning has been, we’ll be on the cool side of things for tomorrow. I think we’ll have more actual rain around Sunday than we will tomorrow, but you’ll have your dry times there too.

More classic July stretch takes place next week and it will take 5 to 6 days to go through its enter evolution.

    1. Bummer that the sun has not made an appearance here…Overall though, been a solid summer so far…

  6. Boston managed to squeeze out 0.02 inch this morning from a small line of showers on a boundary. DROUGHT OVER! 😉

      1. Yes. They had zilch last night. You won the friendly wager we never really made but would have if I had seen it early enough. 😉

  7. Partly sunny now in the Woburn MA area. Quite pleasant in fact. 🙂

  8. Moderately strong signs of a possible 3 to 4 day heatwave for parts of the region beginning Wednesday of next week.

    1. Not a good time for the central air to go on the fritz and it looks like they won’t have the part until late next week…

          1. So sorry. Where are you located Mel? I didn’t see if you answered yesterday. Or maybe you’d rather not on a public blog which I understand

  9. We’re happily sitting by a roaring campfire 🙂 ….. A benefit of this cool July weather.

  10. “Beneficial sprinkles” … I heard a Boston TV weathercaster use that phrase this evening.

    1. Hmmm could it possibly one with initials PG???

Even my wife complains about how bad PG is.
