  1. Thanks TK!

According to Barry, this week back in 1947 was quite warm…and we were in a drought as well.

    1. FWIW …..

Winter of 1947-1948 received 89.2 inches of snow and currently is 4th all time for highest snow received at Logan since records began being kept.

  2. Not weather related but exciting (for me 😉 ) I forgot to mention that I saw my very first bald eagle last week. It was over the Cambridge reservoir in Lincoln by 128/95. I had to look for a photo because I could not see its head the way it was turned when it landed but did see its white tail. I also wanted to verify that one had been in the area. With all of the time I spent in the mountain of NH as a youth, I am amazed that I have not seen one before now. I have to admit to having chills even as I type this.

    1. You need to come up to the Merrimack river, there are a bunch of nesting pairs. Population is continuing to increase. One of the handful of positive enviornment news.

      1. There are some around here also. Daughter saw one in Uxbridge. It actually flew beside her car for about half a mile. Son saw one near the water not more than a quarter mile from our house in Sutton. Alas, I seem to miss them!! And you are so right that it is positive environmental news!

  3. Heard online today that this week would have “unprecedented warmth for October.” Why can’t we just have nice weather without scare tactics…oh well.

    1. Really now. I think I have seen this warmth in October on many occasions.
Unprecedented? I think NOT! Crazy loony bin stuff.

      1. It will set a record for the day which tells me it is unusual in that respect. Leaf peeping is later than it was a decade or so ago as well as leaves falling which we have all noticed and even towns have noticed by scheduling pickup later in November. On Halloween you no longer have to count on having winter jackets and gloves under costumes. Even the Halloween where it snowed, it was light jacket weather the following day. But unprecedented – I agree…..no way.

  4. Not for our region, but for some places in the south-central US, there’s definitely some unprecedented warmth going on right now. Dodge City, KS, hit 99F yesterday (and may crack 100F today). That was its warmest October day on record, absolutely absurd considering how far into October we are. For us, we’ll be lucky to match up with any previous daily records. Maybe a couple ties or breaks in SNE.

And as we head into the 70s and 80s this week I find myself increasingly eager for the first flakes of the season… shouldn’t be too long now up here 🙂

    1. I agree re first flakes. Matt posted a video of snow on FB and I’ve been dreaming about it all morning.

Sister in law said it will be in mid 80s in Atlanta.

  5. 72F / dp of 59F is, by any reasonable measure, comfortable …..

Unless the custodial staff (and our school custodial staff IS awesome) has taken the AC’s out of the windows. The building wide heat has been turned on and your room faces southward directly into the sun. I’ve pleaded for years to wait til Veterans Day weekend or Thanksgiving to remove the AC’s.

Quite warm, even with all the windows open and it’s supposed to be warmer tomorrow and Wednesday. 🙁

    1. I have ceiling fan going for the first time in a while. Windows open and blinds closed. I cannot imagine how the classrooms feel. Doesn’t take much to heat them up.

  6. Feels like summer has returned. 75.5 with 61 DP

Has been overcast on and off with a heavy overcast at the moment.

    Spectacular day.

the lady bugs are out in force enjoying the weather also. The house is covered with them.

  7. BTW, what’s going on with the NFL this year?? Especially with national prime-time games. Last night’s SNF game was the lowest rated SNF game in 5 years. Ratings are still higher than playoff baseball, but the gap is getting smaller…

    1. The fans are getting tired of the way the games are being called, for one thing. Deflategate is over, for another.
America has a short attention span, for a third.
      I’m sure there are others… 😛

    2. Nfl ratings are down 11%. Perhaps the lordship of Goodell or the constant offenses of players off field.

  8. That area of tropical activity down in the Bahamas is now Invest 99. I wonder if some of that moisture has a shot of getting up here?

  9. There is something special about sitting outside on evenings when the sun sets at 6:00. A bit like the first few nights in spring. Darn but life is great even when it throws you some really rotten lemons.

          1. Such a nice thing to say. Thank you to one of the peas in my pod. Well, that sounds a bit odd but I suspect you know what I mean. And I hope you are feeling better tonight…..a lot better.

            1. I know what you mean.

This evening, I am doing a little better. Hoping this is the start…

    1. Is that the same Tom womdered about earlier? If does look to be moving right along

And hi Arod. Seeing you here means snow is close….yay on both accounts 🙂

      1. Thanks Vicki. And don’t you know it. Flakes aren’t too far away if you believe some of the ensemble members;)

  10. BDL hit 80 today, and tomorrow and Wednesday look even warmer. The records for tomorrow and Wed. are 80 and 82 respectively. I would say we have a decent shot at tying or breaking both records.

The Indian Summer is nice but I too am eager to see some flakes and they wont be far away next week. Snow totals thru 240 hours on the 18z GFS:

    http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/?model=gfs&region=us&pkg=asnow&runtime=2016101718&fh=240&xpos=0&ypos=171

That map is sure starting to look more like something you would see during the winter months!

      1. I have always considered it a period of unseasonable warmth in October or November that occurs after we have already had an extended period of more seasonably cool fall like weather.

  11. GFS and Euro have different takes on the late week storm system.

Euro takes the primary storm and most of its moisture to our west and doesn’t really tap into the tropical moisture from Invest 99 until the storm is past us, giving the Maritimes some appreciable rain and leaving us stuck in the middle with scattered showers.

GFS taps into the moisture sooner and redevelops a storm over the Mid Atlantic, giving us some more decent rain. GFS keeps the rain lingering into the first part of Saturday as well.

Hoping we can tap some of that moisture but get the bulk of it out of here by the weekend.

  12. By the way, Euro at hour 240 is very interesting……

Sizable storm system over the Ohio Valley heading east and passing to our south with cold air in place and snow breaking out across the southern tier of NY and SNE next Thursday 10/27. It’s already got a few inches at the end of the run and just getting started 🙂

      1. Euro Ensemble is nearly unanimous with virtually no snow in SNE through Day 15. Only 2 or 3 of the 51 members have any snow here at all, including one laughable member that paints a stripe of 6-12″ across the entire I-95 corridor down to Richmond. None of the GFS Ensemble members have any snow for SNE east of Worcester though Day 16.. A couple have a dusting in the Worcester Hills/Monadnocks.

  13. I certainly didn’t expect that much rain overnight. Driving home from work visibility dropped as low as 1/2 mile at times along 128 between Waltham and Canton. I’Lloyd be interested to see how much JPDAve picked up from this, as the heaviest stuff seemed to pass just south and west of Boston.

  14. Light northerly winds behind that cluster of showers and it’s mid/late October …..

I do see the strong push of warm air aloft, Mt Washington.

But …. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes much of the day along the coast and the north shore to get the warm air back in, which could have 15-20F temp implications.

  15. Good morning. What a surprise with the rain, although Barry hinted that it could
    hold together for Boston.

Picked up 0.02 inch in some evening pre-showers, however around 2:45 AM the heavens opened up and we picked up another 0.65 inch. Not too shabby. We’ll take it.

We are in the middle of the house being painted and it was 3/4 primed yesterday.
I hope that things will dry out enough and fast enough so they can work today.
I just want it done. Have the contractors around is a pain in the ass.
