Friday Forecast

7:10AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 4-8)…
A fairly dry pattern is back and we’ll find ourselves on the eastern side of a high pressure ridge centered in the US Midwest. It will tend to be on the cooler side of normal through the weekend followed by a moderation early in the week. A disturbance moving down from the north Saturday will bring some cloudiness at times and a more onshore wind by Sunday may bring additional clouds and perhaps a light shower or rain or snow to mainly coastal areas of eastern MA.
TODAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 49-56. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 26-33 interior, 33-38 coast. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny morning. Partly sunny afternoon. Highs 48-55. Wind NW to N 10-20 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 30-38. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Periods of clouds eastern coastal areas with a brief rain or snow shower possible in eastern coastal MA especially in the morning. Sun dominant elsewhere. Highs 46-53. Wind N to NE 10-20 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 25-33. Highs 48-55.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 28-35. Highs 55-62.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 9-13)…
No big change to the pattern. Dry weather dominates. Temperatures changeable but not too far from normal.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 14-18)…
Midwest ridge breaks down and allows a little more west to east flow and progressive systems. This may turn our pattern a little more active.

  1. Thank you, sir TK. I hope you are feeling better today??

And are you sure it is Friday? I am convinced this is a bit conspiracy trick. I have been a day or two behind all week and am sure this is no more than Thursday.

    1. Are you sure it is November? Honestly, where the hell has the time gone?
I suppose it is because I am getting older and have been extremely busy, but
the time is flying by faster than I can ever remember.

It’s time to start Christmas shopping already.

It really is time for our Snow context, isn’t it? I think it was mentioned several days ago. What is the deadline?

      No football this weekend. UGH!

      1. Sutton is in the playoffs here for the first time ever. You can go to that game!! My problem is that it is playing Uxbridge and daughter lives there.

And it does not seem as if it should be November and that Thanksgiving is in a few weeks. I am way behind on Christmas shopping.

That said, I have not had to turn heat on yet. I think kids may have a couple of times for baby but are using the minisplit more than oil. Although, I truly think electricity is more expensive than oil especially since this house is so well insulated.

  2. WoW! One of the slowest days ever here on WHW.

Truly in between exciting seasons. Severe season is over. For up here, Hurricane season is over. And now we have about 4-6 weeks before we can reasonably expect the
Winter Weather season to begin. Of course, many of us are hoping for an earlier
commencement of that. 😀 We shall see.

  3. There’s no Pats this weekend, and the weather is quiet, but TK and I are taking in some hockey tonight! He and his son are joining myself (and my father) to watch the University of Massachusetts-Lowell RiverHawks (currently ranked #6 in the nation) take on the University of Vermont Catamounts tonight.

If the GFS is right (always a BIG “if”), this quiet pattern becomes active in a hurry about 11 days from now.

    1. Show a couple a fairly intense systems, 984 and 974 mb respectively.

Too bad it will still be TOO WARM! Even for up North. Sad, very sad indeed.

  4. Big UGH with the systems on GFS for snow lovers.
Boring weather to say the least. My football team the Cowboys big time trap game in Cleveland after coming off big win and big game week after in Pittsburgh.

    1. Well, it is only November. Most systems at this time of year are not going to offer the promise of a snowstorm around here. 🙂

      1. For sure, but at least they often do for up North. Not so
        this year.

Oh Boy do I remember a nice snowy November (for up North). Can’t remember the exact year, but it was the late 60s. I went skiing at Mt. Snow VT on Veteran’s Day. The place was Buried! There had been 2 huge storms and another was coming within days. The skiing was tremendous. There was so much snow and so many people came to ski that they had to open up
a new lift and shuffle off all of the chairs. The snow on the ground had to be 3 feet deep. It was totally awesome.

The funny thing is, it turned out to be a really crappy ski season
with lots of mild weather and rain.

  5. Last night’s “parallel” ECMWF showed a major snowstorm for the East Coast days 9-10. I hadn’t looked at it, but just saw a snow map posted on Twitter (of course) and had to check for myself it it was true. That ECMWF upgrade is scheduled to be implemented the 22nd of this month.

Models are really jumbled up beyond about 7 days out now. I do think there will be an opportunity for more interesting times by days 10-15, but of much higher confidence is the major warm ridge over the central US that we’re on the eastern flank of for at least the next week.

  6. Very quiet on here. Had a thick layer of frost this morning on my car. Models have activity for the 8to14day time frame. Some show some snow up north others all rain. Long ways out but most show something

    1. please just rest up so you feel better. You don’t want to make me come over there 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. I have been trying to balance rest and recovery with things that still have to get done. It’s a very interesting game to play.
