Thursday Forecast

7:31AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 15-19)
High pressure moves offshore today, which will still be a very nice day, and then a warm front approaches Friday, turning the weather unsettled. This front will crawl across the region early Saturday so improvement may be a little slow in coming, but it will arrive, and then set up a very warm and humid Father’s Day on Sunday. A cold front will approach early next week and may also be slow to move through, so humidity will continue high and the shower/thunderstorm chance will be present.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 72-78, coolest coast. Wind light variable with sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 53-59. Wind light SE.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers becoming more likely during the day. Highs 68-75, coolest coast. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Areas of fog. Lows 60-67. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy morning with areas of fog and a possible shower. Mostly cloudy to partly sunny afternoon. More humid. Highs 70-78, coolest coast. Wind SE to SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Humid. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 80s, some 70s South Coast.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers/thunderstorms. Humid. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 80s, cooler South Coast.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 20-24)
Higher humidity and a shower threat persists June 20 then returns at the end of the period, while the middle days are drier and seasonably warm.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 25-29)
A more zonal pattern is still expected with a few episodes of showers/storms from passing disturbances and more variable temperatures.

  1. Can anyone help me with a non-weather related question? How can you post a song from youtube on this blog and Facebook? I thought some you can’t because they are owned by someone or something?

    1. Easy. Just copy the url from the browser.
      Then simply paste here.

From face book, same thing IF you can obtain the actual urkl (web address).
If it is say an image click on it and it will appear in a new window. Copy
address from there and paste on blog.

      Hope this helps

          1. Copyrighted?

If it is on YouTube for all to view, I don’t see
a problem linking it here. What difference does it make if someone views it here on directly on YouTube? The link takes the user to YouTube just as if they were on YouTube directly.

            I wouldn’t give it a second thought. 😀

              1. To post a YouTube video to Facebook, open the video, click “Share” under the video, then click the Facebook icon. It will ask you to login (if you haven’t already), then you can add comments or just post it. I post a video every single night when I am working.

    1. Wow – nice. Although I prefer to think of it as an area where the angels can look down through the clouds 🙂

    2. It is cool. I have seen those before or I should say photos of them as I have
      never witnessed one live. 😀

  2. Commentary on YouTube…

The copyright laws are fuzzed out. I’m sure they are clearly-written but they are far from solidly enforced. The ease of sharing things on the net changed the landscape. You had your diehard “no way” people, like Prince, and Bob Seger to name a couple, which I respect, but I think a lot of artists have realized that having their stuff out there is not necessarily stopping people from buying music, but giving them exposure to long-time as well as new audiences.

For many people, the thrill of “owning” music from your favorite artists is still there. Maybe it’s not all the physical music market it once was since digital took over the majority of the media, but it’s still there, and I think a lot of people won’t settle for just going to look up a song or album on YouTube. They may do it, but they still want to own and control their own copy.

    1. I attempted to post a video of my son on Facebook a little bit ago and got a message that it could not post since there was a Bruno Mars song playing in the background.

      1. There is a program built into FB that listens for songs in which the copyright laws are explicitly enforced. That must be one of them.

To be honest, I think it’s kinda lame, unless you’re posting the whole song and making money off of it.

    2. Exactly. Many artists will put something out on you tube and even offer
a free download of a song or songs from an upcoming album. In some cases
the whole album is offered. People want the physical CD or Vinyl or whatever
even if they have downloaded the whole thing. The artists are NOT losing out
in any way shape or form.

    1. They can’t all go top speed. Think of it this way – a slow-moving warm front allowed 2 extremely nice days here.

  3. Taunton radar is going to be down from June 19 through June 22 for a major upgrade.

While the upgrade is good news, the timing may not be, especially regarding June 19 and/or 20.

    1. Figures!!

Will this include the Boston – TDWR radar? Or is that the same radar
      site, just a different mode?

      Thanks

        1. Of course, why would it be anything else.

So we’ll have to rely on a combination of Albany, Portland
and NYC. Wish we had live access to BZ’s
radar located somewhere in Worcester or even channel
          5’s radar located in Needham.

Oh well such is life. Guaranteed IF we had the radar, not much will happen. Now without it, watch there be rotating super cells all over the place for which no warning can be issued. Watch there be a legit tornado watch. PERFECT TIMING!!!

    2. Yikes – I wonder if they have a choice in timing since that doesn’t sound like a good slot for an upgrade. Thanks TK

        1. Probably. I do not know enough about how involved shut down is so perhaps there is no choice and does need advance scheduling.

  4. NWS radar work: Plans have been in place for this update for a long time. It has been scheduled to occur this summer for awhile, although I would agree summer is not great timing. The Boston TDWR should remain in service as it is not affected by the update, although it’s been having problems of its own lately. This upgrade is also not unique to the Boston radar; all other NWS radars are gradually receiving this update, including other offices in our region which are having to make their own decisions about when to take their radars out of service.

There is also an option to delay it should a moderate or high risk be issued by the SPC (which would be very rare), and possibly an enhanced risk. There were also concerns about waiting until later in the month to do the work, because the radar needs to be operational for July 4 festivities in case of active weather, since that is a major event for the NWS.

    1. Exceptional information, WxW. I’d say they have done an excellent job attempting to cover all bases.

    2. Makes sense. I’ve been a bit out of the loop lately with NWS activities. Getting back in that loop now.

  5. Hey SS folks. Someone in Humarock just posted three tall ships are going by..was about 5 minutes ago.

    1. Not sure if you have used this site but marinetraffic.com is a great tool to identify boats/ships.
