Saturday Forecast

2:16AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 27-MAY 1)
In the pre-dawn hours of today, numerous rain showers and embedded thunderstorms will be tapering off from southwest to northeast, and then
low pressure departs today, leaving behind blustery conditions with lots of clouds and a slight risk of a passing instability rain shower. Another low pressure area races out of the Great Lakes and across southern New England by late Sunday with some generally light rainfall, but the air may be cold enough toward the end of the event to cause the precipitation to mix with snow northwest of Boston before ending. High pressure moves in for the one and only fair weather day of this 5-day period on Monday, which can only mean unsettled weather returns as a frontal boundary sets up shop in the region Tuesday and Wednesday to end April and begin May.
Forecast details…

SUNDAY: Thickening overcast. Rain arrives west to east midday through afternoon. Highs 50-57. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy evening with rain, may mix with snow north and west of Boston before ending. Clearing overnight. Lows 35-42. Wind variable 5-15 MPH becoming N.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs 48-55. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 2-6)
The boundary between Canadian chill and southeastern US warmth will be nearby early period with cool/damp weather, then low pressure may get just east of the region and pull down some unseasonably chilly air for the May 4-6 period.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 7-11)
Some temperature recovery is likely but additional unsettled weather is also expected as the overall pattern doesn’t change that much.

  1. Thanks TK.

Barry has 47 and 46F temps for next Thursday and Friday respectively. I just put away my winter clothes a couple weeks ago. 🙁

The Ch. 5 website still has NO SIGNIFICANT SNOW IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I would hope that it will be taken down after the 30th.

    1. Anybody living in New England should know not to put winter stuff completely away in April. 40s are NOT uncommon during the day. 🙂 We’ve even been in the upper 40s in Boston during the day as late as early June.

    2. To respond to your comment of yesterday as someone who’a been in the restaurant business for over thirty years I can tell you with certainty that if it even might “do” anything there is virtually no point in being open these days. I agree with TK in that the weather outside isn’t really any diffentt now than it’s even been. The difference now is that the weather that affects people’s behavior is the “weather” on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat. That weather is a near hysterical disaster of some sort virtually every day. Even television – from now through August, the TV forecasts will hint on Sunday afternoon that the upcoming weekend, 5-6 days could be a “wash.” This necessitates “checking that outlets phone app hourly to keep up with the drama of a potentially “ruined “ weekend – and so it goes. I just spent a week in the carribean. The weather was sunny, breezy 80”s. Almost every American we ran into was facedown on a smart phone – even on the beach! I just don’t get it….maybe I’m too old….

      1. I agree in good part. But I don’t believe we can blame anything other than people. Social media doesn’t make us do things. We make us do things. Not the younger generation. I don’t know any younguns who don’t go out in anything or who change their plans.

And complaining has become an art form. I hear I hate winter or I hate summer or I hate spring or I hate fall. Unless of course a person feels ill because of weather, I don’t understand. I was thinking last night that, in the times I sat at Dana, I didn’t hear even close to the complaining I hear about weather. Each day is a gift. Life is a gift.

  2. Absolutely beautiful day for an Easter Hunt. Thanks TK. I do think tomorrow might be even better but I was outvoted.

I’m watching the clouds literally fly through the blue sky.

  3. Thank you, TK.

It rained a lot overnight. That’s all I can say. My rain gauge is broken. But the flooding in the courtyard tells me all I need to know. Luckily no spill-over.

It’s been a mostly dismal month weather-wise. But, I’ve learned to expect that. It is spring in New England after all. The flowers are gorgeous, the vegetation healthy-looking, the blooming trees magnificent, but the weather stinks.

I will say this, as a rule people prefer the colors of spring to the colors of fall. I’m the opposite, as I don’t like light colors. But, I’m not in the majority. How do I `know’ this? Judging by the numbers of people taking pictures of the flowers and blooming trees in the Public Garden. It’s at least two to one. People hardly notice the deep red maples and orange oaks in autumn. They mostly walk by. But, as soon as the magnolias comes out people flock to it and snap pictures on their phones or cameras.

      1. I’m with Joshua. I like the fall colors better. I have never heard of “leaf peepers” in April or May. Of course spring does have its beautiful side as well. 🙂

        1. Every side of spring has beauty, in my opinion. I’m so happy I was not born hating any kind of weather. I’m a lucky person because there are not too many like me. 🙂

          1. Ditto…..or did you know that already? My near 12 year old grandson is an old soul. He was just looking out the window the other day and turned to me and whispered….it’s always so beautiful outside.

    1. I love both sets of colors equally. They both have a place in our wonderful natural world.

    1. I’m sure that did some damage. Seems I read TK make the comment about why no tornado. May be wrong.

  4. the patriots are silently putting together a really good draft. We got a stud for a receiver, a corner to go on the opposite side of Gilmore to allow the other corners to focus interior guys which they are considered better IE mccourty and another running back that is said to be a power running back.

    1. Agree. I’m surprised Damien Harris didn’t go earlier than he did. He’s a good, strong RB. The Patriots have an awesome and versatile (they can all receive) set of RBs – best in NFL, in my opinion: Hill (injured last year early, but has the potential to be very good), White, Burkhead, Michel, and now Harris. They’re going to run teams over, especially with the offensive line they have.

  5. At my son’s baseball game and with the heavier showers the rain is mixing with wet snow flakes. Not unheard of this time of year, but a hard pill to swallow especially for the kids shivering on the ball field.

  6. Easter Hunt was a success. It was blustery with a shower or two. Two of grands were wearing shorts and tank tops. One egg is still missing…..but that is standard. It’ll be found in a few weeks. Thank you for your timing help, TK.

    1. I know we both thought tomorrow morning would be better for drier ground and lack of wind, but I’m glad it worked out decently well today!

      1. I suspect that will still be the case but it worked out great. It is always special to have my three, their significant others, and my six grandkids together.

  7. It was quite the deluge here in Coventry yesterday and last night. We ended up with 2.68” of rain and now have 8.86” on the month. It’s looking like we will pass 10” By end of April. It’s been an incredibly wet last 12 months.

It was opening day for softball and baseball in town today. Not a pleasant day at the fields with cloudy skies, gusty winds and on and off sprinkles and showers. I was surprised what good condition the baseball fields were in but the softball fields were a swamp and only one of them was playable. No signs of that changing anytime soon looking at the forecast for the upcoming week!

    1. Conditions are usually much better for opening of autumn sports seasons versus the spring ones.

  8. It snowed much of the day in the Catskills, Tug Hill plateau, and Adirondack in Upstate NY as well as the Greens in VT. Killington is reporting 3” of new snow and Sugarbush received 4”. Sugarbush is planning on going another weekend and staying open till May 5, as is Sugarloaf Maine and Jay Peak VT.

        1. The weather pattern we are going to be in does leave the potential for rare May flakes in parts of SNE. It’ll be a stretch, but I cannot rule it out.

    1. Hahahaha. You’re invited. Saddest part is I have a day long conference call scheduled for that day.

      How rude.
