Friday Forecast

6:53AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 10-14)
Low pressure tracks north of the region today, dragging a warm front through the region today with a few episodes of rain showers possible in any location, although it will rain a relatively small percentage of the day. The low’s trailing cold front will cross the region this evening with a broken band of showers and possible thunderstorms. That will be offshore overnight and set up a nice Saturday as high pressure moves in behind this system. This high will hold off an advancing low pressure area Sunday, maybe not keeping all of its cloudiness away but likely keeping all its rain south of the region. A stronger surge of low pressure will bring chilly and unsettled weather to the region early next week. But this is not a return to the pattern we’ve been in as systems are becoming more separated and we’re starting to see a tendency to stay on the drier side overall. It just won’t seem that way by Monday into Tuesday of next week…
Forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy. Isolated to scattered rain showers. Highs 53-60 coast, 60-67 interior. Wind SE 5-15 MPH shifting to S.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers and possible thunderstorms evening, ending overnight west to east. Patchy fog. Lows 45-52. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 59-66. Wind W 5-15 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 40-47. Wind light W.
SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 57-64. Wind light variable becoming SE.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 41-48. Wind light E.
MONDAY: Overcast. Areas of drizzle especially coastal locations. Rain arriving. Highs 47-54. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Overcast. Rain and drizzle. Areas of fog. Lows 43-50. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TUESDAY: Overcast morning with rain tapering off. Mostly cloudy afternoon with scattered rain showers. Highs 50-57. Wind NE to N 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 15-19)
Upper level low may kick off a few rain showers May 15 otherwise mainly dry but cool. A mainly fair and milder weather period May 16-19 but a front crossing the region sometime around May 17 may bring some cloudiness and passing rain showers.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 20-24)
Slow progression of upper level systems should keep the region fair and on the warmer side to start the period with a wetter/cooler end to the period.

  1. Thanks TK !

Nice stretch of weather we had this week and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s weather as well.

    TGIF !!

  2. Seems the weather Apps showing nothing but gloom, Rain and cold for the next 7-10 days…….

  3. Do I daresay that we may see glimpses of sun for Mother’s Day as well? That would be a very nice bonus considering earlier forecasts. 🙂

  4. Dust devil yesterday in Maine!

Not something you see often: A dust devil in Dover-Foxcroft yesterday!

These form on sunny days when a pocket of air warms faster than those around it. Rising into cooler air above, a spinning low pressure forms, picking up dust and dirt. (Video: Dov-Fox PD)

  5. LOL. I think we received 4.2″ in one week last month…..

    NWS Las Vegas‏Verified account @NWSVegas

    Exciting Rainfall Stats!!
@LASairport received 0.40″ of rain tonight.
    #LasVegas Average Annual Rain: 4.19″

2019 has OFFICIALLY received 4.20″ of rain!
Not even mid-way through 2019, & we have broken the annual rain average!

  6. Hey Mark,
As long as the weather is going to be miserable, might as well snow!
    Bring it on!

  7. Of course, these accumulations if snow did even happen are way overdone but nonetheless it does show the potential for flakes in some portions of New England next week if things come together with that coastal system.

  8. Euro has the snow up North as well and gets “some” snow at the end almost to Boston.
    🙂

  9. Those areas in Upstate NY some of the 12z runs show snow have severe thunderstorm warnings right now.

  10. Despite some additional nasty weather in the forecast (Monday-Tuesday), the next 2 weeks are probably going to also show us that a blocking pattern can work in our favor as well.

  11. Hey y’all:

Your dreaming and blogging of snow above reminded me of the snows from 42 years ago, May 9-10. No school at Mansfield High for those two days because of snow (7″ in Providence) and no power. There was a large power outage from the heavy snow across Eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. I found this paper (New Bedford Standard-Times) from May 10, 1977 (I throw away nothing!):

    1. I don’t wish for anything that causes damage. But my wishes don’t mean anything. I may as well enjoy it. I’m still wondering why I don’t recall the amount of snow from this one. I do remember the storm. Only thing I can think of is I was in suffield CT at the time. Do our CT folks recall what amounts you had in your state

  12. Warmer now than earlier. A very nice evening. Getting a bit dark to the west. I’m hoping we get enough rain to water the fertilizer in. A thunder storm would be the icing on the cake

  13. Current schedule:

FV3 becomes the main GFS in mid June. The current GFS will continue to run alongside the FV3 version until late September before it’s discontinued.

Based on my observations, the FV3 is not ready yet.

  14. Vicki I found this from an article Ryan Hanrahan did about the May 9, 1977 snow in CT.
The infamous May 1977 snowstorm dropped an incredible 20″ of snow in Norfolk and 1.3″ at Bradley International Airport.

    1. Wow. Thank you very much JJ. Bradley is close to Suffield. Perhpas I was there. Or perhaps my memory just blanked.

      1. I remember it a lot more than just a bit… 😉

Thanks for sharing that map, CF! 🙂

    1. For a cooler day, I agree there is a bit of a muggy feel to the night. Was nice sitting out. And first mosquitoes here also.

  15. Torrential rain here right now with a flash of lightning. 4.22” an hour rainfall rates.

  16. Good morning. Although there was some rain around on radar, my rain gauge
    is showing a whopping 0.00 inch. 🙂 🙂
Sidewalk and street here remained DRY. So much for some mets gloom and doom forecast. And fwiw, last evening was lovely, in fact it was beautiful!!

    1. Agree re last evening. This morning also. First one I’ve had coffee on the deck.

We had 0.11. I’m afraid it isn’t enough to water fertilizer in. I’m waiting to see what TK says about tomorrow night.

  17. Last night’s rain event in my area gave me .85” in the rain bucket. Came down hard for a while. Mosquitoes are absolutely lovin’ it!!
