Monday September 6 2021 Forecast (7:34AM)

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 6-10)

We start Labor Day with a lot of clouds. It’s a rainy early morning across the southern coast of Cape Cod as well as over Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, but this rainfall will depart soon and the region will experience an increase in sunshine later this morning into midday. However, we still have a trough of low pressure to cross the region and this may kick off a few isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, favoring areas north and west of Boston, during this afternoon to very early evening. Much of the region will be rain-free today, with decent travel conditions for those returning home from what is considered the closing weekend of summer. High pressure builds in tonight and Tuesday with slightly cooler, dry air. High pressure slips off to the east on Wednesday and we warm up as well as seeing an increase in humidity as a warm front passes through the region. Following this is a cold front which now looks slow enough to allow our region to escape with rain-free weather into Wednesday evening before we get a couple rounds of showers and possibly a thunderstorm later Wednesday night into Thursday, before drier air finally arrives late Thursday. High pressure builds in with more fair weather for Friday. Additionally, as we get to later this week (Thursday-Friday) our coastline will see larger swells, rough surf, and rip currents associated with Hurricane Larry, which will be well offshore but as a strong storm.

TODAY – LABOR DAY: Mostly cloudy early into mid morning including rain parts of Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard. Sun/cloud mix remainder of day with isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm mainly west and north of Boston this afternoon. Highs 75-82. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 51-58. Wind W under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 71-78. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 55-62. Wind S under 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs 73-80. Wind S 10-20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Patchy fog. Humid. Lows 61-68. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers during the morning. Partly sunny midday with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm. Mostly sunny later in the day. Highs 71-78. Wind SW shifting to W 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 50-57. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 70-77. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 11-15)

Offshore Hurricane Larry may continue to result in increased swells, heavy surf, and rip currents along the coast into the beginning of next weekend before subsiding. Keep that in mind if planning any beach or boating. Weather-wise, high pressure is expected to bring fair weather for the September 11-12 weekend with a cool/dry start and warm/humid finish. Low pressure systems bring potential wet weather September 13 and again at the very end of the period, based on current timing in a west-to-east flow.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 16-20)

Expecting the west-to-east flow pattern to continue with limited shower chances around air mass changes, some up and down temperatures, but averaging slightly warmer than normal for the period overall.

  1. Thanks TK.

I am still amazed that in spite of 60+ dewpoints, even though my tile floor is sticky this morning, I have yet to break out a sweat since yesterday. 🙂

I suspect I will feel quite different come Wednesday. Too bad we couldn’t have had this type of “humidity” all summer.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

So when will boston have it’s 1st measurable snow. Wasn,’t it something like Oct 30 last year with an all time record oct snow of 4 1/2 inches.

      1. And the final result was 38.6 inches. Well below normal for the season.

Can we turn it around this winter? Not with October snow.

  3. Sun and cloud dotted sky. Temp is a bit higher than this time yesterday. DP is a tick higher. But air isn’t thick. Lovely morning.

    Happy Labor Day to all

  4. Thanks TK. Last winter Boston and New York tied in the snowfall standings with 38.6 inches. Who will have more snow this winter???

  5. Warm & sunny conditions so far all day , it’s definitely warm enough for the A/C but I’ll wait & just do the bedrooms tonight.

  6. took a quick look and knowing all too well that nothing is that good at predicting the winter until we get through October, many of the climate models currently showing a cold and snowy Canada. With several of them showing Canada/Alaska being the only place in the Northern Hemisphere having any true below avg temp anomalies. Again really early and I think this will change

  7. Something to keep an eye on….the UKMET, and to a lesser extent the ECMWF and ICON are trying to slow down the front on Thursday and have a wave of low pressure ride along it, bringing some heavier rain into eastern New England. The UKMET’s totals are excessive (2-4″), but this has been on there for a few runs now. The ICON shows 1-2″, and the ECMWF is showing 1-1.5″. Given the way this summer has gone, I can’t completely rule it out at this point.

  8. We sure got the rainy morning (and overnight) on the Cape, but we’re home now and it’s gorgeous. What a stellar Labor Day!

  9. Sox were up 7-1, and it’s all tied up at 9 in the 9th. 3 more errors for the Sox – their defense is porous.

    1. Ugly loss. With Sale pitching and a 7-1 lead you’ve got to win. And don’t get me started on the lack of fundamentals (like bunting) in baseball. Sox needed a measly run in the 9th to win, had runners at 1st and 2nd, nobody out. Vasquez, a mediocre hitter at best, is at the plate. Tried bunting, but was totally inept. Popped to the catcher. You wonder whether he ever even practices bunting. Probably not. I’m going to sound very old, but when I went to see the Sox in the 70s and 80s and watched batting and fielding practice, everyone – yes, that included Yaz, Rice, Lynn, Fisk – put down a bunt before doing their regular batting. It’s a lost art, and baseball is poorer as a result.

  10. I can’t believe the Yankees still are ahead of the red Sox by a half game for the first wild card spot. Yankees have lost seven of nine after winning thirteen in a row.

    1. The Sox and Yankees are competing for who’s more inept. All I can say is watch out for Seattle and Toronto. The Yankees and Sox could play themselves out of any playoff spot.

  11. Thanks, TK!

First, and, most importantly, L’Shana Tova and Happy Rosh Hashanah to all who start celebrating in a few minutes! Enjoy your family and may the new year bring us all happiness, health and peace!

I had a few minutes to put pencil to paper this afternoon and am reporting 19.92″ here for Meteorological Summer. We’re at 42.15″ for the year (including this morning) and our yearly average is 51.98.”
