  1. A repost from late yesterday evening:

WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki has tested positive for COVID-19. She will “work from home” for now.

  2. Thanks, Philip. Re Psaki. They believe she got covid from one of her children. Last I read is that she has a mild case. Thank goodness. She was apparently not near Biden.

Below is a discussion that I feel in important. My son in law installed an HRV (heat recovery ventilator) just before covid. We have windows open daily no matter the temp. That is nothing new as I love fresh air. My kids run the fan on our system all night. All of the houses in our neighborhood have radon detectors. There are some good steps that are fairly simple.

    Link below

          1. Having said all that, shouldn’t we get out of the “current” pandemic first before we worry about the “next” pandemic?

            1. I’m out of free articles also.

I sure understand wanting to get one behind us but I think that has been our downfall. If we wait, by the time we react, it is too late

              1. It seems there was a plan in place and passed onto to the trump team after the 2016 election.
My understanding is that the new administration lead by the supreme IDIOT in Chief, tossed it in the trash. What a way to lead a country.

  3. Philip, I mean this country could have and should have handled
it MUCH better than we did. It still would have been here, but oh so many deaths could have been prevented. And all of this anti- vax crap could have been mostly mitigated. I blame the king shit for this.

    1. Of course there was a plan. Only a fool would believe anyone who said otherwise. Every hospital has a plan. Many businesses do. I didn’t know trump tossed it

      1. Obama turned over a very extensive plan put together by
a team of experts assembled by the Obama administration.
I Understand that it was very comprehensive and of course
the blabbering Idiot who succeeded Obama, completely Ignored it. I did read that the administration of the orange terror did, indeed, throw it in the trash. Either way, diapers ignored it.

If you can tell I am extremely irritated, you would be correct.

  4. Question. The dr in the video I posted here a few days ago said high risk people get third vaccine which is full strength. Moderna approved is only half. So do high risk folks who had moderna not get full strength even though according to that dr it was recommended they do?

    1. My high-risk (immune-compromised) friend, who had the J&J last spring, is getting the full-strength Moderna.

        1. I don’t know, but it was what her doctor recommended for her — she’s probably getting it at the doctor’s office, so then it wouldn’t be necessary to make a special request.

  5. We are jammed packed for Halloween. Great to see all the kiddos out and about. Keep in mind COVID doesn’t really spread on surfaces as we first thought so it’s safe to hand out candy etc..

      1. Frankly, I didn’t really see an issue with the photo JPD shared on the other side of the blog of trick-or-treaters gathered around in his neighborhood. Better a gathering outside in the fresh air than an indoor party full of “unvaccinated” kids. Last year BLM had huge demonstrations in the streets and very few got Covid iirc. And there was NO vaccine at the time.

        1. True. Outdoor activities are not risky. Also, most transmission takes place by way of droplets in the air – airborne transmission – and not through surface contacts (as Hadi points out). Still want to wash hands well and be as hygienic as possible. But, coronavirus doesn’t survive well on surfaces. Some viruses do, by the way, including the notorious noroviruses that cause GI upset.

By the way, The Economist estimates that the true death toll from Covid-19 is now >16 million, about 11 million more than the official estimate. This is based on excess death calculations. https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/coronavirus-excess-deaths-estimates

          1. Thanks. I’m still looking for some data. I do know outdoors is far less risky….but is it an absolute? That interests me more than surfaces.

The one caveat is kids eating Halloween candy so not wash hands.

Huge groups of unvaccinated tend to give me pause.

    1. Do you have a link re delta surviving on surfaces and for how long on different surfaces. Also on the risk of droplets lingering in the air outside in crowds. I have looked for a while and have not been able to find anything dated in last couple of months. Much appreciated. Thank you.

    1. And one more. It wasn’t touching the candy that worried me (there are steps to take just in case) as much as the crowds on top of each other.

Kids in school are getting covid from somewhere. I’m sure some is from home even though a child from a home with covid is supposed to be quarantined. Those who support no choice of remote say it isn’t transmitted in schools.

It is interesting to be sure. But as long as we don’t know, makes sense to me to be cautious with our unvaccinated kids. Please note that I never said no trick or treat….I’ve already said three of my grands went out. The other three simply made another choice that had nothing to do with covid.

      1. Yes. I was wrong to be absolutist in the way I expressed outdoor risks. I said “no risk” and that is not correct. There are risks, especially with crowds that linger together for long periods of time, but the risks are relatively small.

As far as surface risk is concerned, that is similarly relatively small.

        1. Thanks, Joshua. That was my concern and reaction to Dave’s photo. We know there is some risk. We really don’t know how much. These are kids who are 100% unprotected.

  6. Israel had a concerning and lengthy Delta outbreak during the summer. It lasted until late September. It appears to have abated considerably. There isn’t a single answer to Israel’s success: 1. Widespread use of boosters across much of the population has probably helped; 2. The vaccination program itself has been quite successful, though not as good as, say, Germany’s. 3. Strong mitigation measures are still in place, including universal use of green passes to enter almost any public space, crowd limits, indoor masking, and very little international travel.

    1. Very interesting. I spoke to Mac’s cousin tonight whose DIL is an ICU physician in Chile and it is greatly improved there also

      1. South America is an enigma. It’s the one continent which hasn’t followed a `predictable’ path. Right now, things there look much improved. But, that was also the case at different points last year and early this year. I hope that the continent does not revert to major outbreaks. Topol said yesterday that 93% of cases there are Delta. I had read that it was only 53% a few weeks ago. Maybe I misread, or Topol is wrong about the 93%.

        1. Interesting. Macs cousin said there are of course covid cases, but it is still a different story. Physicians are permitted to take vacations now…they were not for far too many months previously. I can’t imagine what all of our medical folks face day after day. They truly are out angels on earth
