Friday March 18 2022 Forecast (7:22AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 18-22)

Another morning with areas of dense fog to start, but unlike yesterday, as that fog burned off to increasing clouds, today it will burn off to increasing sun as a weak ridge of high pressure moves into the region behind yesterday’s passing weak low pressure area. It warms up nicely one the sun gets busy today, but with a weak pressure gradient, this is a recipe for a coastal sea breeze which will end the warm-up party early for coastal areas. Low pressure moving into Ohio Valley today will then move into the Great Lakes Saturday and across northern New England and southeastern Canada Saturday night through Sunday. This will bring unsettled weather to our region for the weekend. Saturday will be the wet day with rain quite likely. Sunday ends up drier and breezy but with an additional rain shower possible as a cold front swings through later in the day. Sunday is also the day we welcome the arrival of spring with the vernal equinox at 11:33 a.m. High pressure brings fair and seasonably chilly weather early next week, but a disturbance will have to be watched for a potential interlude of light precipitation at some point later Monday to early Tuesday, based on current timing.

TODAY: Low clouds and areas of fog early morning especially eastern MA, otherwise sun dominates. Highs 57-64 coast, 65-72 inland. Wind variable up to 10 MPH including coastal sea breezes.

TONIGHT: Clouding up. Chance of rain overnight. Lows 40-47. Wind NE up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Highs 47-54. Wind E to variable 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with rain showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm evening, then breaking clouds. Lows 32-39. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusty.

SUNDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Chance of a rain shower. Highs 52-59. Wind W 10-20 MPH, gusty.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 35-42. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 48-55. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Slight chance of brief light rain/mix. Lows 32-39. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 47-54. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 23-27)

We’ll be in a battle zone between Canadian cold and southeastern US warmth. A couple of low pressure systems likely impact our area with precipitation. Can’t even rule out some frozen stuff falling from the sky at some point.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 28 – APRIL 1)

We’ll continue in a battle zone between southeastern USA warmth and Canadian cold, leaving us vulnerable to a couple episodes of unsettled weather.

  1. Thanks TK !

It will be interesting to watch, as your forecast predicts, when that seabreeze kicks in and the effect it will have on high temps.

It tends to be foggy in Marshfield, this is some of the thickest in a while. Visibility on the roads was a couple hundred feet, if that.

  2. Thanks, TK. High 40s out this way to some 50 temps with fog just burned off. Temps a bit higher closer to coast with a 52 in Boston, 51 Winthrop, and 50 down through Plymouth and inner cape.

    1. Very light wind at boston, 3 mph. When the sun gets a little higher in the sky, that wind will quickly turn to the dreaded EAST!
      Brrrrr

NO WAY Logan makes 70, not even likely to reach 60 and if it does, it won’t last long.

I more hopeful for my location. We hit 60 for sure. 70? I don’t know. Probably not, but it depends upon how strong that sea breeze and how far inland it penetrates.

      Currently 51 here.

          1. NO WAY it reaches 70 in Boston today, at least not at Logan. Perhaps a chance in some of the neighborhoods like Brighton, W.Roxbury and Hyde Park, all the farthest inland from the ocean. Also a chance here in JP, Roslindale and Mattapan.

    1. Could that 2% lift a bit north to scrape the immediate south coast, such as south-coastal Long Island, and MV and Nantucket tomorrow.

I’ve seen some radar simulations for tomorrow and the echos look very convective ….. depends on if the extreme south coast can get very mild and moderately humid (dp > 55?) to increase instability. Then, there might be enough wind shear to get an isolated cell rotating.

      1. Since the younger two here wear their bathing suits in snow, I won’t be the least bit surprised if they ask for a pool.

  3. Logan up to 61, wind WNW 5 mph. How long can this last?????
    Now Watch them make 74 today. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  4. Nice detail about the battleground that will set up next week and beyond. As long as the snowfields of Quebec have snow the fight for control will continue.

      1. Indeed. Boston unstuck itself and SE Sutton is now 66.

It was around 80 ten years ago today. Nice day today to celebrate a tenth birthday.

        1. Very nice. Just a question of how often the data is updated.

I like this site better actually. 🙂

    1. That would certainly keep Boston competitive in the snow race with Worcester down to the wire. 🙂

  5. FWIW, as fully expected, the April Fools snow storm depicted by
the 6Z GFS is now GONE on the 12 GFS. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  7. The ocean temperature is responding to the East Wind and sunny skies as it has warmed to 44.24 degrees. Ave. is 37.74. It will go right back down to 41 or 42 where it was I am sure.

  8. I’m on Causeway Street right now pregaming before the Hockey East semifinals tonight (Let’s go Lowell!) and it is absolutely delightful outside right now.

    1. Funny how late the crocuses are this year. You’d have think we stayed cold after January.

I love hearing the peepers. It’s a tiny bit early for then full-fledged up here but there may be some tonight at a nearby pond (not the one I walk at). I’ll listen for them if I’m able to.

      1. The ground barely froze so they were saturated. Might have influenced Them. Peepers have been out in Uxbridge for a couple of weeks so might be early. I don’t keep track cause I’m too excited to hear them 😉

        1. I bet you’re right.

I’ll let you know if we get any peep-peep-peepers up this way tonight.

    1. Your favorite PIT. Upper 50s to lower 60s while everyone else is mid 60s to lower 70s. Haha!

        1. PIT in this case doesn’t stand for Pittsburgh. It’s just a capitalized version of “pit” which is a nickname my fellow weather people gave Logan back in the private company we worked for, especially in reference to its temps that could be way different than the rest of Boston. We’d say: “Logan is a pit!” Not even sure who started it.

  9. Wind just went east here in Woburn, but very lightly. Temp is down a couple degrees.

A.J. B. on ch 5 indicates that he thinks Norwood’s thermometer is reading too high, and I agree. I know they are a warm spot normally, but the last several weeks they have seemed to be standing unreasonably above expectation by approximately 2 degrees.

  10. My crocuses have yet to come up but the snowdrops are doing nicely, which are the first flowers of the season anyway.

The crocuses will come up when they come up. 🙂

  11. I just went outside and measured the peeper volume to be 11.

The full moon with wispy clouds flying by was a bonus!

  12. A glorious stretch of sunny weather in London. I am very lucky. About to go for a run in the park. Perhaps it’ll be less muddy today.

Love the British wit and self-deprecating humor.

By the way, inflation here is very high as well, and it’s the Labour Party that’s criticizing the Conservatives (who are in power here) for the inflation! Politicians on both sides of the political spectrum will never stop being political, will they. Makes me want to vomit. It irritates me so much as an economist who knows the underlying reasons for inflation, and they are NOT related to current government policies, on either side of the Atlantic. Inflation is hardly ever the fault of the government in charge – whether conservative or liberal. Yet, no matter who’s in charge they get blamed for it. Crazy.

  13. I been very busy the past few days, and I been realizing how bad the Patriots are doing this offseason. They have not added anything. Like why not go after cooper if it just took a 5 round pick could of thrown a 4th and give Harry to them lol. Jackson though sad to see leave but the Pats could not hold that kind of contract, but we could go get Gilmore…. Then in the draft get a rookie reciever, corner and pass rusher to go along Judon.
