Quick Cold, Then Return To Mild, No Major Storms

4:07PM

A brief shot of modified Arctic air will come in tonight and last through early Monday. Now by normal standards, this air mass is not that extreme, but it will feel pretty cold in comparison to many of our days this winter. But as has been typical, it will not last, as the mild pattern will return Tuesday and beyond.

  1. With temps still in the mid-30s as of this posting, at least no flash freeze is expected tonight or tomorrow morning.

The 8-14 day CPC outlook (19th-25th) is calling for more of the same well above normal temps. I guess my snow forecast for school vacation week (and probably March as well) is not looking very good or even somewhat promising. 🙁

    1. I saw that Philip. After this very short cold front we seem to jump back up again in the temp dept. Only 2 weeks left for this month.

  2. I don’t believe we will have a dry condition problem, I believe Feb goes out on the mild side with several chances for rain, looks like we will be consistently in the mid 40’s for highs maybe even a day or 2 at or above 50 degrees, March is the beginning of the end no matter what winter has left if any, my friend does Lawncare and he said he’s starting up in 2-3 weeks bc of this years no winter show up, he said there all starting in a few weeks, it’s crazy how fast the daylight grows, a week from now there will be 18 more min of daylight!!

      1. John corner cafe in marshfield was place I kept raving about when we were there. It’s been there 2 years. Food is great. Chicken parm meal to go large feeds 6 and is awesome. $26. We brought 3 home to freeze. If you go in and see the man who owns it please tell him Vicki in framingham says hi. They all knew us and all came out front to say goodbye when we left. Nice nice people. Sorry. Know this isn’t weather related but I really like promoting a good family owned buisiness

          1. Yes, I heard about Whitney…so young at 48. 🙁

As for DST, I lose one hour of sleep. It takes me weeks to get adjusted.

            1. LOL. I like my sleep as well, but Ill take the long day. I am a summer guy . When dst starts back up I know we start turning the corner to my time of year.

            2. In mid 70s they switched clocks in January. I suspect now it’s earlier for what they think is same reason – energy conservation. Does all of Europe have DST now? I don’t remember having trouble adjusting when younger but my kids all seem to and I do now as well

  3. Here in westborough we got a candy coating overnight which then quickly melted away…the ground is once again bare…

  4. I could have sworn I heard a trill of our resident tree frog today. Softly but sounded like it. Does anyone know their hibernation cycle?

  5. I was just outside and it is still not that cold out. The snow got done around 3hrs ago.
    nothing but a tiny trace.

  6. TK- I was just wondering If the wind will still be coming in tonight. I know that was talked about by some mets. Is the cold front coming in tonight delayed some, still not a bad night here at all. The high for tomorrow is 20. We can handle that for one day as after Monday it gets back to the high 40s.

    1. There isn’t much gradient since the low pressure was so far out and so disorganized. That’s why I only went 10-20 MPH for top winds.

  7. I think I figured out why I get Pete B. My husband has a really quirky sense of humor as does my business associate. Much like Pete’s. I finally saw what he said – winter is in a death spiral. It’s what half the NE residents are thinking. If not more. I get what some of you are saying here too. I just figure everyone has his own style and I enjoy them all for what they offer. Sort of like people in general 🙂

  8. Provincetown has a N/NE wind…while the wind is NW on the east coast of Marshfield. A little bit of convergence there and thus a band of precip forming off of the south shore. Interesting to see when the very cold air advects in…what might happen with this. Some small accum maybe in extreme southeast Mass over the next few hours. Hit some snowshowers on the drive home along the coastal road.

      1. Keep with Matt. Your education is the ground work to your future. Oh, and I would have given anything for a B. 🙂

    1. Matt – if you are disappointed with a B my guess is that you are an excellent student. Keep up the good work 🙂

  9. Does anybody know why we are voted worst at clearing snow? This is no offense to snow removal people but they said Massachusetts has the worst bc they don’t remove the snow or take away, they pile up snow at corners,, I knew something was wrong bc when I went to Chicago for 3 days it snowed 6 inches, I was amazed by how clean and how they get rid of snow as supposed to piling it up against buildings like u c here

    1. I think the immediate answer is probably that we don’t have it in our regular budgets to remove it completely. You only see it start to get done when we have a series of big storms like last year.

Maybe the more indirect and true answer is these practices do not change because in many cities and towns as well as the state, the head-of-the-DPW type jobs is probably handed down through relatives and then you have an issue of “well it’s always been done this way” instead of having a new idea coming in from somewhere else, where they have found a more efficient method.

      1. In NH when it snows you just go about your business. They have clearing snow down to a science. VT as well. I’m not as familiar with Maine. I suspect TKs comments are both true as well as some in the plows who just do not care. I see it all of the time in Framingham. The one drive who does our area does so in a way that he can milk all the time out of it possible. I know I’ve said here that back in those series of large storms three weeks in a row in the 1969 (maybe 68) the town of Belmont had to have police officers ride in every plow b/c the drivers were not dropping their plows so they could re-do streets.

        1. One thing I hope we do not hear next year (when it does snow!) from our towns and cities is “we’ve run out of our snow removal budget.” If they’re doing their budgeting properly, the amount saved from this year should be earmarked for snow removal next year.

          1. I agree. But I suspect we’ll still hear it anyway – even if it’s late December and we’ve had “average” snow.

            1. This goes back to why oh why r we stuck in our old ways, can someone please show us some new ways and change, no one here wants to ever change, it’s always slow larthargic old time boring out dated laughed at way of thinking ughh idk

        2. Well nh is not a populated state, I think they had states that had population, u can push snow anyway up there, there more moose than people

  10. Never no new ideas, always old ideas, leaving sat me and the fam of 4 r leaving for Charlotte to look at houses, be back in about 3 days
