Tuesday April 5 2022 Forecast (7:49AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 5-9)

High pressure brings fair weather today. Two low pressure systems impact us with unsettled weather midweek lingering a little bit into late week, as surface low pressure moves away but upper level low pressure hangs around.

TODAY: Sun followed by clouds. Highs 52-59, coolest South Coast. Wind variable under 10 MPH becoming S 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clouding up. Rain by dawn, especially south of I-90. Lows 38-45. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Overcast. Rain likely. Temperatures steady 38-45. Wind E 5-15 MPH interior, 10-20 MPH coast, higher gusts possible.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Areas of light rain/drizzle. Areas of fog. Lows 35-42. Wind NE 5-15 MPH early, then variable.

THURSDAY: Cloudy with periods of rain and areas of drizzle/fog. Highs 40-47. Wind variable to E 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with rain tapering off to rain showers. Areas of drizzle/fog evening. Temperatures steady 40-47. Wind E to SE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts in coastal areas.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of rain showers. Highs 58-65, cooler Cape Cod / South Coast. Wind SE to SW 10-20 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of rain showers. Highs 56-63. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 10-14)

Cooler, fair April 10-11. Overall trend remains dry but with potential warming after that, although always have to watch eastern Canada for high pressure and a sneaky back-door cold front.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 15-19)

Tricky temperature forecast is play for at least the early part of the period. Overall trend is for drier weather to continue, but this forecast is low confidence.

  1. Sorry about the almost non-discussion. Didn’t have much time to do this this morning. I’ll make up for that with a long-winded one soon.. haha.

    1. You could always go into a long-winded discussion as to how Boston beat Worcester in snowfall this season for only the 6th time in history. I imagine a lot of weather dynamics went into it these past few months.

      B = 54.0
      W = 53.6

        1. Well I should be, as I’m a 3rd generation Bostonian! 🙂

Next winter we can go back to the Boston-NYC rivalry. I suspect Worcester will resume to clobber Boston with snow as usual. 😉

          1. Again, this season is not over. This is the equivalent of declaring the Red Sox the winners of the AL East when they have a 1-game lead over the Yankees on Labor Day.

          2. Love it. I’m in Worcester county now but lived the vast majority in middlesex. We are smart enough to know there might be more snow, but it doesn’t stop us from rooting for Boston!!!!

  2. Looking ahead to summer …..

we are headed towards a solar max and have had a moderate La Nina going for the past year to 2 years.

Since 1950, the closest year that matches these 2 is 1989.

Of course, we know other teleconnections and a warmer climate since 1989 need to be factored in.

Summer 1989 had 7 days (90F or higher) at Logan.

June came in at average temps, July and August were both about 1F below average.

    1. That would be perfect imho. Don’t want many days with temperatures in the stinken 90s!!!!!!! Gimmie 85 and dry any day.

      1. Thanks TK. The summer of 1989 had a big severe weather outbreak on July 10 with multiple tornadoes in the northeast and one of those came by my neighborhood around 5pm that day. Hopefully nothing like that this summer.

      1. I’m pretty sure I recall the Lowell Sun running a story about a couple from Lowell who were on their honeymoon, in Charleston, SC in September 1989 and went through Hugo.

        1. It indeed did hit Charleston. It went right through Mac’s parent’s area in Mt. Pleasant and then continued well inland to Charlotte where it spawned tornadoes. Mac’s aunt and uncle had significant damage in Charlotte.

As an aside, Charleston did an exemplary job in evacuations and warnings. If only New Orleans and perhaps other areas had used it as an example of what to do.

Mac’s parents were in Spokane at their daughter’s. Later, in the fall, the entire entire family was at our home. That was when the Oakland quake it. It did only minor damage to Mac’s brother’s home in Moraga.

    1. Boo! so much for that!

Vicki how did you get the degree symbol to appear?
Is that a function of your Iphone or Ipad or can it be done
on a Windows 10 computer? Thanks

      1. If I hold down the number 0 on my ipad or iphone, I am given an option of a degree sign. There are other keys that have options as well. I’m on computer now. Ill try below

nope did not work. I’ll try something else

DID any of the above display??? Likely not!

    1. Well a few of them did. To display those on Windows 10 hit the Windows key (lower left) and a period “.” A bunch of emojis will appear. Not all will display, but you can play with them and see.

Here is my try at a degree subsitute

      It is now 55▫

  4. ❤️‍♀️‍♀️⭐️⚡️✨☀️☁️⛅️⛈❄️☃️⛄️☔️☂️❤️‍

Above are iPad emojis. I took a screen shot before posting and will post a link to that in a minute

      1. Yes. I wonder if when they security glitch is fixed, an emoji plug in could be added. TK? I also am happy to volunteer to help in any way if your tech person reaches out to me

    1. There’s a weather-related topic embedded in the recording of Tom Sawyer.

It was high summer when Rush wrote the songs for Moving Pictures. But by the time they began recording the album at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec – the mountain retreat where the band had cut Permanent Waves – a mean Canadian winter had set in.

“It was the coldest I’ve ever been in my life, that’s for sure,” Lifeson laughs. “We were living in a house beside a lake, and the studio was on the other end of the lake. If we were brave enough, we walked through the woods. It was really beautiful, but it was minus 40 out there! I’m serious!” The promotional video for Tom Sawyer, shot at Le Studio, begins with a view of this snowbound landscape and ends with a pan out across the frozen lake.

      1. How well I remember these words. Tom Sawyer was a beloved book. Huck Finn also. I hated reading as a youth but read every word of both several times.

And now they are banned. Or were. We are in deep trouble.

“ “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” by Mark Twain
But “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” was also banned when librarians said they found Mr. Sawyer to be a “questionable” protagonist in terms of his moral character.Sep 28, 2 011”

          1. Sure does. I just had three of my posts on FB pulled. I play wordle and nerdle every day. Each game provides a clipboard copy of the results without giving the answer. Many post their results. Seems FB doesn’t like the name nerdle although it is a legitimate name of the game. I would not have a problem, but FB is riddled with deliberately insulting comments that remain

            1. Vicki, are you familiar with “worldle”, the geography recognition game? I play that and nerdle, but I never post anything anywhere! 😉

              1. I am not. I play wordle and nerdle daily and quordle when I have time. I will check that. Thank you ❤️

              2. Found it. My world geography knowledge is horrible. States are better.

Nerdle is my favorite since it uses strategy. I will give your suggestion a try

  5. Spectacular early spring day. Still 60° with a lovely light wind I may still be on the deck at midnight

  6. Tonight was my first dinner on the deck of 2022. My dining guests were flopsy, a rain gauge and my crude snow measure (no worries…I do actually measure), and all of nature

Spaghetti carbonara…recipe compliments of Nonna and Mac

      1. Thank you. Flopsy thanks you. It was so nice to be outside for most of the day. Ans no mosquitoes. Although we are seeing ticks

  7. What is the Woodshill forecast area. SW NH is 2 hours away. Yet I consider myself in the Woodshill Forecast area. I’m 128 miles from Keene. Thursday highs in your forecast are way below what I’m expecting from Boston stations.
