A Summer Comeback

7:21PM

Well folks, I can’t deny it, another stretch of warm weather is coming. This one will not be as intense and long lasting as what we saw in March, but the peak day will probably be classified as a hot day, and the bad news is that it will coincide with the running of the Boston Marathon. This will remind many of 2004, and for those who were around for it, 1976 though not as hot as then when it reached the middle 90s in Boston! High pressure will be in general control for the next 3 days, building off to the south of New England. Temperatures will warm during this time. An interesting note is that some locations may see a nearly 40-degree diurnal onΒ  Saturday (the spread between the low temperatures and the high temperature), as some valley locations that dip to the lower 30s in the earlyΒ  morning recover to near 70 in the afternoon! A couple disturbances (Saturday night & Sunday night) will bring threats of showers and maybe even an isolated thunderstorm, but otherwise dry weather will rule. The scattered showers/storms of Thursday were not enough to provide widespread relief for drought conditions and high fire danger, so we will see this continue. A frontal system will remain to the north of the region until Tuesday, at which time a cool-down ans turn to more unsettled weather will begin.

Forecast for eastern MA,Β  southern NH, and RI…

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Low from 32 in the valleys to near 40 along the coast. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. High 65-70. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Scattered showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm after midnight. Low 50-55. Wind W 5-15 MPH shifting to SW.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. High 75-80. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Low 60-65. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY – PATRIOTS DAY: Partly cloudy. High 85-90. Wind SW 15-25 MPH.

TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Low 60. High 74.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 50. High 64.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Low 45. High 57.

FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 45. High 63.

    1. I am so with you. What is better than having a three day long weekend, being able to enjoy it with heat and shorts. I will be working 12hr days a few days out of the week starting next week, so I am going to enjoy.

  1. If i was not going to be redoing the patio that has not been touched for over 2o something years. this week yeah i would like the 90 degree weather. I want 50s to 70s

  2. This is why I have my pool open, we’ve already used it back when it was in the low 80’s. Water temp is up to 59 degrees πŸ™‚

      1. awww gee another one on here with a pool…………sniff πŸ™

Just kidding !!!! and I think we know where you will be on Monday, Tom.

        1. Even though i have a pool I will not be using it even though the winter pool cover is off. We are making the patio from scratch and we are going to recover the pool for the week so no soil and rock gets into it. Not to mention we are taking the fence down and putting up a knew one. So we need it to be closed so if there is a someone that is peaky they would not get hurt

          1. Matt what kind of patio are you making? I’ve always wanted a brick or cobblestone patio with a stone fireplace but ended up with a new deck which I love too. I’m a huge fan of being outdoors.

            1. We are using slate. The slate was already there. since my grandparents made it. But now its been 20 to 30 years of not being touched so we ripped up and we are redoing the whole thing. I just wish it is colder out

              1. sounds lovely Matt and special too because your grandparents made it. I tend to be incredibly sentimental about things like that. I have a brick from the home my mom grew up in and that her dad built and have made a place for our fire pit to sit around the brick.

                1. It was left alone and not maintained we ripped it all out and we are totally redoing it We are using the same slate but also getting a new fence and grill. We are also tring to figure out a good spot for a fire pit…. Also since it is going to be so warm we are not reclosing the pool we are just going to cover it with the solar cover. current water temp in the pool is about 54 degrees….
water temp in the marsh is about 48

    1. put a solar cover over it it will increase the temp be 5 to 10 degrees. Its worth the money. It also helps with maintaining the heat if it gets cooler outside. It also helps keep it cleaner. It will help keep it cleaner and will not allow mosquitios to go in it when you do not run your filter.. We keep our pool open about a full month after most closes theirs . we close ours in october… and did i mention we bought a fountain that floats on the water and at night it lights up into several rotating colors. Its awsome.

      1. this last reply was towards Charlie and Tom. What kind of pools do you guys have. I have and in ground pool

  3. I’m starting to wonder how warm to hot Tuesday could be, in addition to Marathon Monday. On the EURO, the core of the warmth at 850 mb passes through Monday night, into very early Tuesday morning. Monday night could be exceedingly warm…..like 60s, even in suburbia. The 850 temps do cool slowly during the day Tuesday, but with sunshine and a land breeze from the NW, it will be interesting to see how warm/hot Tuesday turns out to be.

  4. Thanks Tk
Were going to have a great weekend here. I am keeping a good thought for folks in the Plains as there is the POTENTIAL for a major tornado outbreak. I say this often but we are so fortunate to be here in New England where major tornadoes are rare. Give me two feet of snow over a tornado any day of the week.

  5. If anyone is in Brighton and feels like donating blood, they are having a drive for the police officer shot in Manchester NH πŸ™‚ Guess it’s to thank Red Cross since the officer used more blood than a body has.

  6. Already a tornado watch PDS for parts of Oklahoma and Kansas. I think were going to see more of these watches go up throughout the day and I would not be surprised if more PDS are issued with these tornado watches.

  7. On Barry’s morning blog, he mentioned that on Monday we will be as hottest (88) since last August 19th. This is somewhat surprising to me considering temps have been well above normal levels since last July. I can’t believe that we haven’t been near 90 degrees at least one more time in September and/or October.

Don’t get me wrong…I believe Barry’s stats 100%. I am just somewhat in awe that those temps were never matched again after August 19th given such unusually warm circumstances.

    1. Philip we were at beach last two weeks of August last year and I remember cooler temps with ocean breeze – lots of wind – but nothing warm. Oddly I don’t remember the 19th being that hot and it’s my husband’s birthday and it was day I was packing. Maybe we just had the ACs on. I can’t remember what Sept was like

      1. I think we had many days near 80F or a little above after August 19th and of course, there was Columbus Day that was 87F. It’s just that after that, the temperatures didn’t fall a heck of a lot the rest of the winter. πŸ™‚

  8. The BAA is telling those who wish to skip race that they can carry their qualification to 2013 – very fair of them. Also warning phantom runners not to participate since they won’t have enough medical staff to help everyone.

    1. Believe me anybody who trained for this race will not drop out due to heat, believe me. There our plenty of fluid stations throughout the course. That being said there will be many issues for the runners. The runners have already started to hydrate as this starts today. This hasto be a smart race, forget about personal best. Finish the race safely. This is a marathon where there will be plenty of medical attention needed. I hope to god everybody gets through this safely. If you dont know much about running, trust me 26.2 miles in maybe tempatures hitting close to 90 degrees, it is. Dangerous.

      1. John everything you said is exactly right. It’s the phantoms that the BAA is worried about. Not only are they not always prepared but the BAA can’t have enough staff to help those it did not plan for.

  9. It looks like summer and even smells like summer, all the plants r in the ground πŸ™‚ alot of other neighbors were planting as well

    1. I think it looks like deep Spring, not quite to summer yet. That happens after all the leaves are fully out. πŸ™‚

  10. I was throwing some water down on the plants and was spraying other areas of the yard that have some dirt. Well, lately, it’s been more like dust. Anyhow, when I’d spray the water down, it was like being in the desert southwest. The water just beaded right off the top layer of sand. It took a lot of water to moisten up the ground. I know its been dry, but this really surprised me. That was towards about 10am. By about 1pm, most of the area was dry, as if I had not watered at all.

  11. If you read my posts earlier in the week on watering at work this is what I was saying. I would spend an hour watering a section and it would look like I had spent five minutes on it. We will be loosing plants at work. We have never had the sprinkler systems on this early. We told them they need to go on,it takes time as not like just hitting a switch. And of course all the shirts and ties need to have a meeting on it.

  12. Wow some nasty cells in ks and ok. The one around Abilene has what looks like the hook echo to me

  13. there is a colder side of the storm creating the thunderstorms. I colorado they are having thundersnows. and lots of it. There are several storms cells that look like they could be strong enough to create tornadoes. expecially in ks

  14. That threat is going to continue into the overnight hours. Hopefully folks out there have the NOAA weather radio to alert them when severe weather is threatening while they are sleeping.

    1. They don’t need NOAA radio really. They have sirens like the fire department uses that are mounted on electrical poles. They can wake the dead. They turn on the sirens for tornado warnings.

  15. I just got this breaking news. I am hoping it isn’t as bad as it sounds

A possible tornado has hit a hospital in Creston, Iowa, a spokesperson for the hospital says. A search-and-rescue operation is under way, according to a dispatcher with the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

  16. It is 6 to 7 days out but there is a good shot of rain, will c πŸ™‚ GFS is saying about a half inch to 1 inch of rain next weekend.

    1. I agree Charlie……….consider though, that maybe 3 days ago, the models 6 to 7 days out were projecting decent chances of rain for this coming Wed-Fri and now, it’s going to be rather dry. Given the pattern, I won’t buy into rain until its projected a day or two before the event.

      1. Same thing happened this winter, really. Models a week out showed a chance at snow, then by 2-3 days out, it was gone.

        1. Good morning and that’s so true Brad and Tom. It was the winter of the storms that went POOF

What a great morning. Breakfast on the deck !!

  17. Good morning all. Opening day for pembroke baseball with the parade at 11am. Second game of season AT 3pm. We had a tie in yesterdays first game.

  18. Good morning all!

A beautiful morning here in southern New England, but let’s not forget the many impacted by the severe weather well to our west. Thoughts and prayers are with them. I know that tornado outbreaks are a part of our climate, and as meteorologists and weather enthusiasts we are fascinated with the processes that lead to such events, but none of us want to see the impact on property and most especially lives that does indeed occur with them.

I’m going to put in a quick update (forecast only) in a few moments, just to fine-tune some things. Later this evening the new blog for the week ahead will appear.

    Have a great day everybody!
