Sunday April 30 2023 Forecast (7:47AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 30 – MAY 4)

On this final day of April 2023 we will be overcast and have a wet Sunday, first impacted by drizzle and lingering showers in association with the remains of a low pressure area that is dissipating just to our south. As this happens, another stronger low will head northward from the Carolinas, its center passing just west of our area tonight, throwing a more solid ribbon of showers and embedded thunderstorms our way, along with a gusty wind. This system will merge with another low in the Great Lakes as it wheels around under an upper low to start the week, and the entire system will then move slowly eastward through the middle of the week. After a mild, breezy Monday, additional unsettled weather comes in with the large, slow-moving system later Tuesday and lingers through the middle of the week, with a cooling trend.

TODAY: Overcast. Showers likely. Areas of fog/drizzle. Highs 48-55. Wind E 5-15 MPH, higher gusts especially in coastal areas by later in the day.

TONIGHT: Overcast evening with widespread showers, some heavy, and a chance of thunderstorms. Lows 48-55 evening then rising slightly overnight. Wind E-SE 10-20 MPH inland with gusts 25-35 MPH, 15-25 MPH coast with gusts 35-45 MPH, shifting to SW overnight.

MONDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 63-70 except 55-62 South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 47-54. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny morning. Mostly cloudy with scattered to numerous showers afternoon. Highs 57-64. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Lows 45-52. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs 55-62. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows 43-50. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of showers. Highs 52-59. Wind NE-N 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 5-9)

Stronger indications of a stretch of drier weather after a chance of a shower at the start of the period and maybe another shot late in the period with one departing trough and one approaching disturbance. In between, high pressure dominates with fair weather, a warming trend, but cooler in coastal areas most of the days.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 10-14)

Continued indications of a drier, and seasonable to mild pattern heading into the middle of May.

  1. Social media is full of posts lamenting the weather as if it’s ruined everyones life around here. No. No it hasn’t.

We’re pretty lucky actually. Oh a stretch of cloudy weather with some rain (that’s actually beneficial in making up a 2+ inch deficit for the month and temporarily lowering the pollen count for allergy sufferers). We’re not dealing with the severe outbreak FL had and other areas have seen in this active season, or the flooding from a melting record snowpack in the West, or similar in the upper Mississippi Valley where the spring snowmelt is prolific after near record to record snowfall there as well.

We’ll see the sun again too – in fact, tomorrow, with pretty mild weather to boot. Nope, we don’t really have it that bad at all.

Rant over. Enjoy your Sunday. 🙂

    1. Absolutely !

      Perspective.

I’ll complain endlessly about what I perceive as chilly springs in New England, but it’s not more important than people’s health and well being and all that other more important stuff.

      1. That New England “chill” keeps most of that severe weather from entering these parts. 🙂

    2. It makes me sad to know some folks happiness is dependent on weather. It surprises me that the verse we happily chanted as a child has been forgotten.

      April showers bring May flowers.

  2. As denoted by flood watches in northern New England, this could be a huge rain event for that area and especially the white mountains.

When I lived in Lowell, there were a couple times I can remember that the Merrimack river flooded 3 or 4 days after a big rain event up north. Depending on how much it rains up there, this might be another occasion.

        1. Thanks.

It’s from Grey, ME NWS and it’s on its main page and it shows a rainfall prediction for a large part of the state.

  3. Agree, TK, we’ve actually had plenty of sun this month. I may have mentioned this before, but for April it’s been rather pleasant.

  4. Thanks TK. Leaving Plymouth, NH today to return to Natick. Looks like I will leave heaviest rains behind.

    1. Sad news. ALS is brutal. Toto’s 2nd bass player, Mike Porcaro (brother of drummer Jeffrey and keyboard player Steve) died of the disease several years ago.

Mike replaced the original bassist David Hungate right around the time of the Grammy Award winning Toto IV (containing the hits “Rosanna” and “Africa”). Hungate remained friends with the band but never wanted the full touring musician lifestyle. Mike was an excellent bassist and even after his diagnosis continued to play until his health made it impossible.

That’s a great photo by Sytse Schoustra. Rest in peace.

      1. Tragic. It is such a debilitating disease. A man who was one of Mac’s families closest friends struggled with ALS.

  5. When I look at the models mid and late week, while we’re under a trof/closed low, I see hopeful things going on across most of Canada. A good amount of Canada 60N and southward get quite mild, if not warm.

A possible productive week ahead of melting a big chunk of snow and some ice.

Warm up Canada and it can’t help but warm New England up. (For the most part, so long as our wind isn’t persistently off the ocean)

      1. I just use the : and the capital D for the closest version of the laugh emoji you can get here.

        😀

  6. Definitely hasn’t ruined anyone’s life…not even close. I just think it’s humorous, because it’s April. 🙂

  7. Bruins-Panthers note: The team that scores the first goal has won all six games. Just saying. 😉

    1. And yet that stat doesn’t have any predictive ability for tonight’s game. That’s the thing about the NHL. It’s pretty unpredictable. 🙂

  8. I am glad last night when the Devil’s scored first they didn’t beat my Rangers. Game seven tomorrow night.

  9. Thanks, TK:

So glad loved ones are getting healthier as reported here this past week.

1.27″ since it started raining and it’s dark and pouring again here now.

HRRR has quite heavy rain in our area and a 51 mph gust around 11 pm.

Of all sports events, I love NHL playoffs, especially Game 7s regardless of who’s playing.

  10. Of the 5 round 1 NHL playoff series that are over, I have picked the winner correctly in all of them.

For the remaining 3, I have Boston, Colorado, and NJ (sorry JJ!) picked. We’ll see how that goes.

    1. Didn’t think they would, but they did!

The “sucky” Sox (sarcasm) are above .500 and have won 6 out of the 9 series they’ve played.

      1. 3-0 in games I’ve attended this year. 7-0 in home games I attended last year…my son and I are on a streak…

  11. I hope the Rangers come out and play like they did in games 1 2 and 6 in the series. If that Rangers team shows up they advance. If the Rangers team that showed up for games 3 4 and 5 the Rangers are going home.

    1. I would not be displeased at all if the Rangers won that series. The only reason I am kind of rooting for NJ was for the sake of my bracket. But I’m not in this to win anything – just for fun to see how well I do.

If the Bruins don’t pull off a win tonight, I lose my championship team..

  12. I thought the Panthers would win a game in this series against the Bruins. I am curious is Boston sports radio looking at this season as a big time failure if they lose in the first round. I know many on NY sports talk radio are looking at the Rangers season as a failure if they don’t advance past the first round and that you made the moves at the trade deadline getting Tarasenko and Kane.

  13. Can someone help. My brother is in a rehab that has streaming tv. He has no clue how to use it. What channels is the bruins game on

      1. Ahhh. His son said only tnt also. But the rehab doesn’t get that. I have no clue why a place that caters to a large number of older folks would have something so complicated.

        Thank you both!!!!

  14. And the Sox and Yankees are now tied at the bottom of the AL East — the entire division is over .500

  15. It all comes down to this. Boston teams always seem to keep up hanging onto our seats. I sure hope they can pull this off, it’s going to come down to how sharp Swayman is in the next 20 min.

  16. Bruins have had some wild playoff series. This is one of them. I can’t watch OT. My blood pressure is already through the roof. I just measured it. I don’t want to wind up at Mass General.

    1. I never watch hockey but am watching now so I can txt updates to my brother and I’m on the edge of my seat. Cannot imagine how you all feel

      1. This is me now: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FvAesLoXoAEltDd?format=jpg&name=240×240

I listened on the radio. I just couldn’t watch. I didn’t feel good about the Bruins since their OT loss at home in Game 5. That was a weird game which they should have won. During that game that kind of lacked an edge. But after that game they definitely lacked an edge. It’s hard to describe.

Don’t know what to say. I still love the Bruins. Will wear my Bruins shirt proudly. But they have given us fans some heartbreak at times during my lifetime.

  17. After seeing all 4 teams win championships in recent times I told myself I’d never stress out about anything again – win or lose, and I have stayed true to that. Including tonight. 🙂

Life goes on. The sun comes up tomorrow. 🙂

Some people would say that makes me “not a fan”. No. I just have a different approach than the majority of people. I’ve been healthier because of it, too. 🙂

    1. My approach is the bruins were slipping in this series & Florida just grabbed every chance they got & capitalized. Bruins had chances to close it out & just could not do it , the better team tonight won . I did not have much confidence going into this game tonight & I was so hoping that I would be wrong. Great regular season & I think some changes will be coming .

      1. We may have seen the last game for Patrice. Not sure yet, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

    2. All definitely a healthy attitude. I mostly share it. Though I do have the old flask going right now. The loss does sting. But not for long. There are more important things in life.

    3. In my opinion, that makes you a fan. To me a fan stays true to its team no matter the outcome. Winning is awesome. But it just doesn’t trump loyalty.

      1. To be fair, that doesn’t stop me from getting wholeheartedly involved and jumping at every play. You have me on that. And I hurt for them when they lose.

      2. The Bruins could go 0-82 in the regular season (no it’ll never happen) and I would still stay true to them. Thankfully that’ll never happen though.. HAHA

Am I disappointed? YES, absolutely. They had the skill level to beat this team. Problem is, you can have all the skill in the world, but you’re not beating anyone if you don’t execute. And they didn’t do enough of that.

        Maybe next year.
On goes Florida to the next round, and I give them the congratulations they deserve and EARNED.

  18. I’m watching my 2nd game 7 of the night. Will it be the home team Avs, or the road team Kracken moving on?

  19. What is truly remarkable and unexpected is that the Bruins lost 3 in a row, something they didn’t do all season, I believe. And 2 of the 3 games were at home! Credit the Panthers for being able to pull of this epic upset.

  20. I saw some of the thunderstorms moving to the north of Miami this week they looked rather intense. Miami was warmer than the Virgin Islands. If I was to choose between the Virgin Islands and Florida I would choose the Virgin Islands over any of the southeast states and Florida is more expensive than living in Massachusetts or the Virgin Islands.

  21. You got to go back to the 2013 Blackhawks as the last Presidents Cup trophy team to win the Stanley Cup. I thought the Bruins were going to win this series in five games. Give credit to the Panthers as this looked like a big time mismatch.

    1. Soaking rains continue in Boston. And they’re not Bruins’ fans’ tears. April was a dry month. Well, until April 30th rolled around.
