The Week Ahead (May 14-20)

7:59PM

I hope everybody enjoyed a very nice weekend in southern New England. Today even brought a taste of summer with some high temperatures going over 80 degrees. This has resulted in some pop-up showers across parts of NH which will fade early this evening.

A frontal system moving into the region will become stationary Monday through Wednesday.  Most of the shower activity associated with this front will remain west and north of the Boston area, mainly in interior eastern MA and southern NH, through Tuesday, though passing showers cannot be ruled out elsewhere. It is not until Tuesday night and early Wednesday when a wave of low pressure moves up along the front will it rain more significantly in eastern MA, RI, and southeastern NH. One final trough may cause an additional shower or storm late Wednesday.

After an unsettled first half to the week, high pressure building in Thursday and Friday should hold on through the weekend with mainly dry and mild to warm weather. Cooler conditions can be expected in coastal areas, however. We will have to watch low pressure to the south by the weekend. Should it move northward, that would potentially foul up the weather. An early optimistic call of mainly dry weather is what I am going with now.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Slight chance of showers mainly west and north of Boston. Low ranging from the middle 50s to around 60, mildest in urban areas. Wind S diminishing to under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers. High from 60 coastal areas to 70 some inland areas. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Scattered showers. Low 53-58. Wind SE-S 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers. High from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind S 10-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: AM showers, possibly heavy. Partly sunny PM. Late day t-storm possible. Low 59. High 74.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 51. High 68.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 52. High 72.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 55. High 65 coast to 75 inland.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 55. High 65 coast to 75 inland.

  1. Thanks TK.

Just got back from a weekend basketball tournament for my daughter in CT. It was really nice down by the shore there. 75-80 yesterday and 75 today until about 3pm, when the seabreeze kicked in. Her team went 3-1 and too!

  2. Thanks tk, on a side note: why do I get caught in traffic every Sunday night bc the exit is only 1 lane, why? Why haven’t they widened this exit? It’s been talked about before and it gets worse yr after yr, again why? Haha have a good night 🙂

      1. That is funny :). I think Charlie may be talking about the 128/95 exits in Canton, but that is just a guess :).

      1. I am familiar with the 128/95 Canton exit, but aren’t most exits off of interstate highways only one lane?

  3. Keep that optimism going TK for next weekend into Monday at least. I have a commencement to attend next Monday. 🙂

  4. Still 70 here and on the warm side unless we open windows and with the pollen open windows at night promotes sinus problems in morning. See how few problems there are in winter 🙂 🙂

          1. Thank you and I sure do hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. What glorious weather!!!

  5. Logan made 80 when that wind shift occurred this afternoon. So I assume most everyone got close to 80 as well!!

  6. I’ve noticed that thunderstorms are mention on a couple of weather sites. What are the chances for storm in Brighton, for both tomorrow and Tuesday? Also, is the air going to feel more humid tomorrow?

    1. More humid, but not too excessive. Don’t think there is much of a storm threat until Tuesday night and early Wednesday with the main slug, and then maybe late Wednesday with a last trough/cold front.

  7. I dont know if it means anything towards afternoon convection……but amid some of the breaks in the mid level clouds, I can fee a few towering cumulus clouds developing.

  8. Could be some downpours and maybe a rumble of thunder. I don’t think everyone will get wet. A gathering area of showers in CT but no special weather statements on it but I think there could be a heavy downpour in that area. I kind of think this is how it will be till Wednesday it won’t rain all day but if you can get a downpour and possibly a rumble of thunder.

    1. I guess it is that time of year – doppler radar is showing some heavy showers (don’t know if there’s any thunder involved) moving to the northeast not far from Worcester. Sun is in and out here in Sudbury. I guess sun’s heating is firing up the strength of the showers as well as the Low and the front nearby. If this was a few months ago, probably would have been just showers.

      1. Is that the same group that just went through CT?

Clouds just starting to dominate now. Will be fun to watch!

        1. I think it’s the same group that went through CT. But at this point it looks like the heaviest rain will be to the west of us.

Hope you had a great Mother’s Day, Vicki!

  9. “Futurecast” nails it again. Had the t-storms in central MA in the 2PM hour on last night’s run.

    1. pouring in Framingham too. Just went over to Country Curtains in Sudbury and got stuck in a downpour 🙂 It smells like summer rain !!

      1. We got curtains there a few years ago! Nice selection. Opened the window and yes, it does smell like a summer rain! 🙂

    1. However that map was last updated may 8th so it doesnt take into account the rain we’ve had in the last week

      1. Right. I saw that but I don’t think the rain we had took us from severe to no drought. We didn’t get any rain here and on south shore it was severe. It’ll be interesting to see what map says this thurs

  10. The radar makes me think there’s some very heavy showers around the Boston area at this time. As it has been much of the day, the sun is out from time to time here. Still an ocean breeze, but just to my south, the obs say it’s in the upper 60s to low 70s with S/SW winds.

      1. Husband called to say it was a downpour in Watertown so he’d work a little late instead of sitting in traffic

        1. :))). I’m wishing as hard as I can for rain to start after 8 tomorrow and end before noon thurs.

            1. I think you two need to change your golf nights – just don’t make them on weekends please 😮

My husband said the other half of his league plays in Norwood (I think – see how well I listen) and they were looking for more players. He asked if you are anywhere close and if you are interested in another golf night!

  11. Wind has come around to S in Marshfield and temp has jumped to 72F. Seems like maybe a slight training of echoes just west of Boston. Interested to see if that’s a temporary thing or if showers are going to repeatedly develop in that area and hit the same towns. Off for a while, then Celtics !

  12. I can feel the difference. IT was warm and muggy earlier and not its cool and there is drizzle. the wind changed to the east instead of the southwest

  13. I had it with this pool every year some kind of allergy or something comes in and makes the pool grey to green . we found the stuff that works to make it settle out on the bottom but when it comes to vacuming it up it just disperses back into the water. Any small jolt or movement makes it move. :/ ahhhg

    1. Chlorine my man. You need chlorine. Using that floc just makes a mess. Shock it with Clorox and run the filter 24/7. When the chlorine drops below 20 add more Clorox. Your stabilizer is probably sky high too if you use the pucks..

      1. I knew a person who had a salt water pool. Do those require as much work. Our neighbor’s is always a horrible green but unlike you Matt he doesn’t take care of it

        1. Mins salt water, but I need to add some salt do the generator will make chlorine. In the mean time I’m using Clorox. Most of the problems people have is that they use the pucks. They are stabilized chlorine. When the stabilizer gets too high, it takes more and more chlorine to keep the algae killed off. As a general rule, the stabilizer should be around 30-40 ppm, the free chlorine should be around 4. Once the stabilizer gets over 60 or so, most people don’t keep enough chlorine in the water to overcome the high stabilizer. And they get a green pool.

          1. Great explanation. Id have a salt water pool too. At the moment I do – the Atlantic. I just can’t fit the solar cover on it 🙁

        2. My pool is fresh water. Pool chemistry is all where it should be which is why I am so confused.

          1. Matt, if it was where it should be, it would be sparkly 😉

Go to troublefreepool.com. Read thru pool shool up at the top of the page. It will explain everything. You also need a good test kit. My bet is your tabu lister is too high and your pool isn’t properly chlorinated.

              1. Hahahahahaha. I’m sorry but the auto correct as irritating as it can be is hilarious.
