Friday April 19 2024 Forecast (7:42AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 19-23)

A trough has to cross the region during the next couple days, and that means lots of clouds today. A cold front swings through tonight and Saturday morning with rain showers, and a secondary trough comes through late Saturday with an additional rain shower possible but mainly to the west. We’ll stay in a northwesterly air flow through Sunday but with fair weather that day – another trough will pass by to the north with no impact other than some scattered clouds. High pressure builds in with fair weather early next week – Monday being the cooler day with a Tuesday warm-up.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 55-62, coolest coast. Wind SE-S 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers mainly overnight. Lows 47-54. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Cloudy with rain showers morning, mainly southeastern NH through eastern MA and RI. Partly sunny afternoon but a late-day shower possible mainly central MA and southwestern NH. Highs 58-65. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 42-49. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 56-63. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind WNW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 61-68. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 24-28)

Trough / frontal system April 24 brings the chance of rain showers. Generally fair April 25-26. Unsettled weather potential April 27-28 weekend. Temperatures variable, averaging close to normal.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 29 – MAY 3)

Mostly dry pattern end April / start May, maybe brief interruption around mid period with a passing trough and frontal system. Variable temperatures, no major extremes expected.

  1. Thanks TK !

We are sitting in port in Boston, just behind Castle Island.

Calling passengers off starts in a bit.

I know the area had 2 really mild days, but I’m laughing a bit because I left to cloudy and 45 and we’re back to cloudy ….. and 45F. πŸ™‚

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

Your best shot as to when showers END in Eastern MA tomorrow AM? I will make a fishing go/no go tomorrow AM
based on what I see and what the radar shows. I don’t mind the grounds being wet, but I don’t like to get wet all over while fishing, especially when it isn’t all that warm out.

    MANY THANKS

    1. The air has had quite a raw feel. I sure can understand not wanting to be out in it. Hoping for the best for you tomorrow

      1. I have resigned myself to a no go, but will make final decision in the AM. πŸ™‚ The water isn’t going anywhere. πŸ™‚

  3. Thank you, TK. As always, thank you for this blog and the great group of folks it has brought together

      1. If freaking WordPress supported GIF’s you know what I’d drop here right now…

“Oh Ralphie! A plus plus plus plus plus plus plus ……………”

  4. TK, what are your early thoughts for rain in Newport RI this Wednesday? Hoping it is not a washout.

  5. Geez, Logan has a 20 mph EAST WIND!!!!!!! at 52 now.
Can we please CUT the damn EAST WIND ALREADY!!!!!!!!!

  6. Thanks TK.

Getting ready to leave for Sugarloaf ME for the weekend for what MAY be our last ski outing this year. They still have 110 trails open there. Packing clothes like it is January. Looks breezy and chilly up there this weekend.

We were up there one year ago this same weekend and it was sunny and 72. We were skiing in shorts. That was the same weekend Hartford hit 94 degrees. It was bizarre driving up there with the AC blasting in shorts and a T shirt with the skis on the roof rack. Got some weird looks driving up 495. What a difference a year makes…

  7. I’m going to do a little limb walking for fun…

Somewhere in New England has a high temperature below 50 on April 26 and then a high temperature above 80 on April 29.

  8. From WG Calendar…

On this date in 1971, just after midnight, an F3 tornado in Hereford, Texas, injured 26 people while destroying 47 homes. Thankfully there were no deaths, probably due in large part to the sheriff, who rode a few blocks ahead of the tornado with siren blaring in a fairly successful attempt to warn residents to take shelter.

The sheriff said: “It was a big funnel. You could see it when lightning flashed behind it. When I went into law enforcement, I never dreamed that some night I’d be a Paul Revere, West Texas style.”

Examination of the path of the storm revealed skip action, or times when the funnel was aloft, which resulted in less damage than a continuous path would have caused.

  9. Spectacular clouds

“No, it’s not a painting and it wasn’t photoshopped either. These are polar stratospheric clouds over Iceland.”
Polar stratospheric ice clouds (naked clouds) form at temperatures below the ice sublimation point, usually around βˆ’85 Β°C, a temperature lower than the average temperature of the lower stratosphere.

  10. Welcome home, Tom. I love that you had such a great vacation. Thank you for sharing parts of it with all of us.

  11. Vicki, those clouds over Iceland are amazing, almost hallucinogenic: Looks like a blend of tie-dye and the Wonka factory.

  12. The wind had a biting cold to it, BUT the sun off set that quite a bit. Around here it was actually pleasant this afternoon. The airport can go take a long walk off a short pier!! Made it to 61 here and now 59. πŸ™‚

Leaf out is commencing here!!! usually around here trees are fully foliated around or about 4/28 or so, give or take depending on the weather. So I think we may be a tad ahead of schedule. We shall see.

  13. Tom Brady made a big donation to the Esplanade Association, which it’s going to use to invest in youth programs and the Charlesbank Landing project. The latter is a great initiative to build a visitor center (to be completed in 2026) with information on local ecosystems and the environment and a cafe-restaurant.

This is a wonderful philanthropic gesture by Brady. No fanfare. This isn’t about him at all. It’s purely a gift to a city he once lived in and enjoyed.

As was reported in the Beacon Hill Times, he said “I’m very grateful to the Esplanade Association, which does an incredible job to make this park a vibrant green space. … This park was so special to me. It was my backyard for years when I lived in the Back Bay. It’s where I first pushed my kids on a swing. I’m proud to be supporting this important project. Let’s get this done so that the next generation can enjoy what my family was always able to do.”

As I’ve said on the blog before, I used to encounter Brady, his children and their pitbull on my early morning runs. He really was pushing his children on the swings.

Both Tom and Gisele loved living in Back Bay.

And Gisele, like almost every Brazilian I’ve ever met, loved winter and snow. This is a wonderful picture from 2014: https://www.eonline.com/news/495332/gisele-bundchen-kicks-off-2014-by-looking-as-perfect-as-ever-in-the-snow-see-the-pic

  14. Thanks, TK!

    Welcome home, Tom!

I have had a great week, not having to set the alarm. I have stayed close to home, puttering in the yard and garden and working on small projects inside.

Tomorrow, Mrs. Fantastic and I celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary! Yes, we were married on 420 which was Patriots Day and Easter Monday in 1987. I did not know the significance of 420 in 1987 and, no, we will not be celebrating at a local dispensary tomorrow. Hahahahaha! πŸ™‚

  15. I just remembered that 11 years ago today was the after bombing incident in Watertown.

The back parking lot at Mac’s company where he parked abutted the driveway where the boat was. Mac would have been at work when Watertown was shut down. But he stayed home to help take care of our oldest grandchild while his mom was induced at NWH. Neeedless to say that didn’t happen as hospital postponed all elective procedures.
