Nice Weekend Coming Up

4:44PM

We continue under the influence of low pressure and cold air aloft as more showers and thunderstorms have popped up during the day today. These will fade with the setting sun, only to re-fire tomorrow as the atmosphere continues to be unstable. A pair of weak disturbances will pass across northern New England during the day Saturday then just south of New England Saturday night. At this point, these don’t look like they will have a big impact, perhaps a shower or thunderstorm Saturday night in a few locations. Drier, warmer weather Sunday through early next week will be the result of building high pressure.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

TONIGHT: Variably cloudy in the evening with diminishing showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy to mostly clear but patchy ground fog forming overnight. Low 50-55. Wind S to SW under 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny in the morning with any patchy fog dissipating early. Developing clouds leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 70-75, holding in the 60s in a few coastal areas. Wind variable to S up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy early with a few lingering showers possible, then partly cloudy. Patchy valley fog. Low 53-58. Wind light SW.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. High 75-80. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low 60-65. Wind W 10-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. High 73-78. Wind N 10-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Sunny. Low 58. High 70 coast to 80 inland.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 61. High 82.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. PM showers and thunderstorms. Low 64. High 83.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 66. High 77.

    1. Very funny Em. I think I’ll laugh in person since you are about 3 feet away from me right now. 😛

  1. Heard today that the NWS “might” have said there is a 50% chance of El Nino returning by year’s end. Can anyone confirm?

      1. It depends on the strength of the El Nino. If it is a strong El Nino the country will be flooded with mild air as
we the case in the 97-98 winter. El Nino is just one of many things to look at when making a forecast for the winter.

      2. In a practical sense it’s way too early to call of course.

Odds favor below normal snow in winter 2012-2013 if we are in El Nino and heading toward Solar Max.

        1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO……. wait for it NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    1. Longshot, I heard the exact same thing. I don’t know though as to what El Nino means for our upcoming winter. I imagine it couldn’t be any more snowless than last.

      1. I don’t think we see anything like this past winter, not anytime soon. I’ll havto watch harvey again in the fall. The guy he had on nailed it. I believe I posted it here. I think that same guy is calling for a dry and warm summer.

            1. We got a little ways to go before we get to winter. Its look once again another chance for storms
tomorrow afternoon. As I said in the previous blog CT River Valley west getting a 2 since there
is a chance for some severe weather. A 1 for everyone else since I think the threat of severe storms
              is low.

  2. Alot of rain again, no severe weather but a loud storm that dropped .56 in 25 min this afternoon

        1. Actually Vicki the south coast got a lot of rain very late this afternoon so I am not totally surprised at Charlie’s numbers…assuming that is where he lives.

          1. I’m not being surprised. Charlie’s numbers are consistently higher or as high as other areas and it amazes me that areas not that far apart get such different amounts. He’s had as much in 6 weeks as we have here in all year. I actually thought we’d be close to .5 with the way it rained so was suprised it was just .11

              1. As I said a rainforest. Is there a reason that your area seems to get the jackpot every storm. I don’t know how the land around you is set up. Is it typical or just another oddity for this year?

                1. I checked wrentham wunderground and it says .24. How accurate is wunderground? I’ve been discounting my rain gauge b/c it is always different from the wunderground gauge in my area and now I wonder if it’s wunderground that’s wrong and not my guage!

                2. or is .24 since midnight? Meaning you got even more rain. I can’t get to history on wunderground on my computer but can on my iPhone – have no idea why

  3. Our earliest sunrise (5:07 am) occurs tomorrow (Friday). Unfortunately, it ends right after the first day of summer on the 21st and we go back the other way, but slooowly. It won’t really become noticeable until around mid July.

As much as I love winter, I do love the early sunrises of summer. 🙂

    1. My husband too. He leaves here at 5:30. He used to take the dog out first but with the fisher and fox the dog is waiting till later 🙂

    1. i remember when i said oh good the sun is up. time to go out and play… then school came and i did not want to wake up. 😀

  4. NW Mass, VT, and NH are in a slight risk today for severe weather according to the SPC.

  5. nice weekend!!!! upper 70s to low 80s and sunny. I am sure that is one heck of a weekend. Just wish i see some high 80s and 90s already. we had warmer in april and early may . I want it back.

    1. Actually, me too. Earlier predictions earlier this wk. rumored it would be very warm next wk. Doesn’t look that way at this point. We are in June now and I am hoping we get a decent amount of hazy, hot and humid weather before fall sets in.

      1. I won’t mind when we get 80s and 90s but I love this weather – my grandson’s 5th bday party is tomorrow and it should be perfect temp!

  6. NWS

.. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING…

A FEW THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE AND PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING… MAINLY ACROSS NORTHERN MASSACHUSETTS AND SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE. ALTHOUGH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MAY BEGIN TO DEVELOP ANYWHERE IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AFTER 3 OR 4 PM… THE CONCERN FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IS GREATEST BETWEEN 5 AND 9 PM ACROSS NORTHWEST MASSACHUSETTS AND SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE… AND BETWEEN 7 AND 11 PM ACROSS NORTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS. WIDELY SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ELSEWHERE ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING MAY PRODUCE LOCAL DOWNPOURS AND DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.

  7. Storms/rain not supposed to come ’til later on. Uhh, doppler radar showing pop-up showers and maybe storms in northern MA and to the west. These storms/showers sure popped up fast! Lots of cumulus clouds to the north.

    1. Am looking at the clouds, rainshine!! I think I can wave to you out the window that is in front of my desk 🙂 It’s a wonder I get work done since I love to look at the sky – and also the birds 🙂

      1. Glad that the weather will be cooperating for your grandson’s birthday tomorrow! Enjoy!

What kind of birds do you have in your yard? I used to be an avid bird-watcher years ago – still enjoy watching them. We used to walk around Broadmoor in Natick a lot ’til my husband’s back problems started. Around here, we have a lot of sparrows, cardinals, chickadees, woodpeckers, nuthatches and robins.

        1. The same types you have – the cardinals and gold finches are my favorites. Some titmice and we had an oriole the past two years. I can sit on the deck for a long period just watching them at the feeder and in the birdbath.

I hear some thunder over your way. On radar it seems that it will slide just east of us but may clip you.

          1. Yes, it’s getting cloudier. Looks dark to the northeast, from what I can see through the clouds. If it stays together, an area of rain/storms near Fitchburg would probably affect us. Went outside to look at the sky – beautiful! And I can smell all types of flowers – allergy has been awful.

            Aaah – hearing thunder now.

  8. Cluster #1 just went by here in Metro Boston with the strongest cell being a southward-redeveloping cell, typical of this setup. #2 is inbound crossing 495 soon and not looking too strong but could strengthen a bit. The 3rd and batch should be heading into eastern MA during the end of the commute at current speed (I always underestimate these things)..

Also sorry for delays in replying and an approval (coastal). The spam bots hit hard yesterday and I had nearly 400 messages to go through. All but 2 were spam. 😛

    1. Thanks TK – not looking as if husband will be mowing lawn tonight for the bday party tomorrow 🙁

  9. Impressive thunder and lightning over Sudbury now – actually a little east. We did have a downpour about 10 mins. ago. Thought I saw some small hail just before it started to rain and we got a little wind.

      1. Some thunder and lightening but not very exciting. It looked directly over you rainshine. A brief downpour.

  10. Thanks for the storm update, TK. A moderate storm has just clear us over the Brighton area w/ frequent lightning and heavy rain. Did not observe hail.

    1. The reason I’m not positive is that NWS sent warning to my cell for framingham but there isn’t anything near here so I’m not sure what it meant

      1. We had thunder from two different storms that spanned close to an hour, but neither came far enough south to get us. First one clobbered the Hull area and the second one got a little further south, hitting Scituate.

        1. I saw that the warning box was just above you. Would have been tons of fun watching asit moved off the coast onto the ocean.

    1. I love that cruise. I met my husband on the Norwegian Majesty while cruising to Bermuda. When do you sail?

      1. July 6th. Second time. We did it four years ago on different ship. Now it goes friday to friday, before it was sunday. We will be married 10yrs in september and together 16. To risky to go in september. Last time it was like a second honeymoon as my son did the kids club and loved it. He is eight now and were hoping for the same. Yes he is in. my wife and would not go without him. Only child and it goes to fast. Hope it is as good as last time. The reviews have been mixed. thanks for asking.

        1. Good cruise. Did it once 10 years ago on the Majesty then again 4 years ago on the Spirit. First time went end of July and it was great, 2nd time end of June and the weather was awful, rained every day and was only in the low 70s. Heard from others June not a good time for Bermuda. Hopefully the weather is good for u John, I’m jealous!

              1. The dawn ace. parts of it were just done over. Reviews seem to be so so. It will also be my birthday the day we leave, just happened that way. I’m sure we will have a blast. In cambridge now for a party. Full sun and almost hot here.

        2. John I love that your buddy is going. Even with three they always were with us. They still love to be with us. Sharing the world with your family big or small is the best

  11. Area of light showers off to our west edging closer, was that supposed to happen? Was nice earlier but clouds have taken over.

  12. AceMaster – I have been noticing that area of showers off to the west too. Not sure if they will make it here. Here in Sudbury sun is in and out.

I will be going out soon to meet a friend for ice cream! 🙂 Have a great wknd. all!

  13. anyone in northeastern mass will remain dry today. boston might see a light shower.

        1. It was a 10 day here and the first one since grandson’s first bday party that it didn’t rain at some point.
