Dry Is The Word

4:06PM

High pressure north of New England will provide dry weather with no heat in sight through the weekend. The only real “interruption” if you want to call it that may be a period of extensive low cloudiness late Saturday night and Sunday morning as some moisture comes in from the Atlantic with an easterly wind.

Next week, high pressure will start shifting more to the south and finally allowing more southwesterly flow to develop. This will result in a warm-up, the first real sign of this likely being less sunshine Monday as warmer air coming in first aloft creates more cloudiness.  I’m not looking for any major heat next week as wetter topsoil and abundant green vegetation will make it hard to heat up too much.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southeastern NH…

THROUGH SUNSET: Clouds depart Nantucket. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Temperatures ranging from the middle 60s to lower 70s coast to inland will fall back slightly. Wind NE-E 10-15 MPH.

TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY: Clear nights, sunny days. Lows in the 50s, coolest interior valleys. Highs 65-75, coolest coast. Wind NE-E under 10 MPH at night, up to 15 MPH during the day.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Low clouds developing. Low 50-55. Wind E under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Low clouds slowly dissipating during the morning leading to a sunnier afternoon. High 62-67 coast, 67-72 inland. Wind E 10-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Low 57. High 74.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 58. High 80.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 61. High 82.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 63. High 84.

  1. Thanks TK.
Looks like the humidity will build a little as we head toward mid week next week. Until then great stretch of weather to close out the spring season.

  2. Pete has a (93) for next Wednesday and he said that the heat will continue for days thereafter…NOOOOOOOOOOOO! :-0

Keeping my fingers crossed that TK’s forecast temps (low-mid 80s only) for mid-week holds!

    1. Hahahahahaha. Philip, I just took a sip of my drink and almost spit it out I laughed so hard at your post

      What a night.

Acemaster did you notice the rain is now splitting the golf nights. As well as your softball night. And on the topic of golf did you see the 14 yr old who will play in the open being interviewed. What a charming young man

      1. Hey Vicki, yea I’m pleased with no more rain on golf or softball nights, for now anyways, lol. I bet ur husband is happy about that too! I didnt get a chance to see the 14 year old, but I checked it out later. What a great kid!

    2. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Finally some summer weather.!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

        1. I am glad that you got a big kick out of my comments, Vicki. I know good and well that even in NE we can’t keep the HHH away forever. Even the summers of 2009 and 1816 had a fair number of them. 🙂

          1. I can not wait for the 90 degree days and humidity with those afternoon thunderstorms. I was really disapointed with the lack of snow this winter . I do not want to be disapointed with summer as well.

            1. I was disappointed with the lack of snow as well but not so if we don’t get any HHH temps. As long as temps are in the 75-85 range by day and 55-65 at night, and NO RAIN whatsoever, I am good for summer. 🙂

              1. 80+ I want those HHH as well in july and i want some dry heat and some humid heat.
I want lows in the the 60s to 70s. so my pool stays in the 70s
                with those scattered boomers.

  3. The latest CPC has above normal temps, but also above normal precip through the rest of the month. I don’t like the heat, but at the same time, I don’t want constant rainfall either. Summer should be all about getting outside, not having to stay indoors.

If this CPC forecast holds, “dry” will most certainly NOT be the word. 🙁

    1. I agree about getting outside. Thats the drawback to HHH. Windows closed and AC on. Most comfy place is inside – same as winter.

      1. Gardens in the morning then beach or pool in the afternoon.
Or go to the cape. can not wait to board going the weekend after my grad party

        1. Now I know why the heat and humidity didn’t bother me when I was a teen. Matt, I loved those summers. I always worked but at the end of the day we’d head for Nantasket and Paragon Park or to the banks of the Charles or wherever we felt like going. Enjoy your summer and I hope you make many special memories!

  4. what do people think about saturday the 23 I just saw the 10 day weather channal and it has showers 🙁

    1. Matt, the 23rd is still a bit too far away. I suppose TK can give you a very general idea. I would suggest to wait a couple more days. In the meantime, continue with those “outdoor” plans for now. I most certainly would. 🙂

However, if you take the latest CPC as gospel, the extended outlook is for a wet trend, as I mentioned earlier. 🙁

  5. The weather will be fine that day since the Farmers’ Almanac is predicting dangerous thunderstorms and it always seems the opposite happens of what they predict. I will give them credit for June 12th-15th calling for showery and thundery weather.

  6. A cold front is going to be in the area around the 23rd. Does it move right through or bog down? That’s the question. 00z GFS is starting to hint toward more progressing and less blocking…

    And I disagree with Pete’s 93.

  7. Thanks for the great forecast TK!! With two young kids can’t ask for a better forecast over the weekend!

  8. Vicki – is your birthday the 18th or the 23rd? I have it as the 18th.

I, too, am looking forward to some hazy, hot and humid weather. But as long as there is some sort of breeze so I can keep the windows open. I wouldn’t mind to have most of July and August w/that type of weather w/thunderstorms around for any needed rain and the excitement(as long as they don’t hurt anyone or anything). As I have said before – I wish the seasons would be as they should be. After a hot and humid summer, it’s great to move into the crisp, colorful days of fall. Then, move into the cold, snowy (w/1 or 2 blizzards thrown in) winter and then into a warm and vibrant spring.I know that we can’t control the weather – Mother Nature ultimately decides the weather.

    Have a great wknd. everyone!

    1. rainshine – it’s the 18th but with father’s day this weekend and our son rafting on the Kennebec we will celebrate on the 23rd. And I’m looking forward to the HHH too just so we have it all. Meanwhile this is supposed to be a spectacular stretch of weather!

      1. Thanks, Vicki! Enjoy all the fun events you have coming up. And yes, looks like a great stretch of sunny weather – as well as some warmer and maybe some humidity nxt. wk.

  9. The NWS hints at a possible back door front for midweek instead of the HHH. Their official forecast for that timeframe is still “up in the air” so to speak. 😉

So TK…what are your thoughts on Dylan’s 91 and 93 for Wed/Thurs. respectively as well as the NWS concerns regarding the back door front?

    1. I think the back door may fall just shy of reaching us but don’t count it out. And I don’t agree with 90+ at this point, not until we’ve been dry for about a week. This pattern the week after next would produce a shot at 90+ after the ground has dried back out.

      1. Does that mean where ground is dry it could be over 90. Mines dry enough that some of my flowers are drooping ao I’ll have to water tonight. Or is it the general earth moisture?

  10. Today’s CPC temp projections blast the heat into New England next Wednesday….

    a few predictions :

Both Albany, NY and Hartford, CT : 97F
Both Concord, NH and Burlington, VT : 90F
I think they went with 90F for Boston….

and even with a 5F isotherm line, have a ton of them in there to account for the 65F to 70F on Nantucket. That always makes seeing their projections for eastern New England rather difficult.

    1. Yes, looks quite healthy on satellite. Wonder what those winds might be reported by later this evening.

  11. “less sunshine Monday” 🙁 But but but will it be nice enough for a walk? If so, want to take a walk with me? Thank you TK 🙂

    1. Need a Lake Q walk again soon! I wonder if Gutner will be out there again. 😉

      1. Haha. Yes, and I’ll make sure to wear sun block….By the way, I’m still not peeling all the way from my last one!

  12. The 12z GFS is back with the cut off closed low idea for later next week, and the 12z EURO hints at it. Although what I do see is a lot of heat building in the south, so all it would take is a wind shift, and HHH weather would be here very quickly.

  13. I know there are folders here. Is anyone watching the open. My husband is behind but at the moment the 17 yr old amateur is leading. No matter how long his lead lasts, what an amazing accomplishment.

  14. Tiger is in contention going into the weekend at a major. There will be a new champion as Rory Mcliory missed the cut. The top 3 golfers in the world rankings Rory being number two all missed the cut.

  15. Since the weather is so quiet maybe someone can answer this. Why do all our kids move away? A person that I was talking to said the reason why is cause we don’t build enough housing causing prices to be through the roof, is this true? We cannot be this numb, then he explained that people fight tooth and nail for no new housing and then wonder why 13% of our kids between 20-40 yrs old leave every year, he said it will never change until the towns realize they have to grow, enough with this nonsense, sorry for the rant but it was a topic today, it could storm on Wed, have a great weekend everyone

    1. Quest for independence. Housing is not an issue at least in my area. We have too much. 😉

    2. I agree with TK – there is plenty of housing. We have always been – along with several other hot areas in the country – an expensive place to live. Best schools, best hospitals, arts, technology, standard of living etc. Income levels are higher also. I don’t know any youngun’s who want to leave. On the contrary every one of them loves it here since they feel the area offers all.

  16. Good morning and what a day – pure blue sky, absolutely spectacular sleeping weather and clear air!
