DAYS 1-5 (JULY 23-27)
An area of high pressure will slide offshore today and sit for a few days, turning up the heat and humidity as we head toward the end of the week. This morning, being rather cool, calm, and still dry, will present quite a contrast from just over 48 hours from now when we’ll be on the day of peak heat with high temps in the 90s for most areas with dew points nearing 70. That rather brief heat spike will be cut back this coming weekend though. We’ll have a cold front cross the region Friday late day / evening with a thunderstorm threat, and high pressure settle in enough to provide fair weather for Saturday. But a disturbance from the west may bring unsettled weather back to the region at some point on Sunday. Some guidance has this further south and not much of an impact here, but I’ll monitor that.
TODAY: Mostly sunny – high cloud patches passing by during this morning and pop-up fair weather clouds this afternoon. Highs 78-85, coolest South Coast. Dew point rises toward 60. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog interior low elevations. Lows 61-68. Dew point near 60. Wind S to SW under 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 78-85 South Coast, 86-93 elsewhere. Dew point in 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 68-75. Dew point rises toward 70. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Sunshine through midday. Clouds develop / arrive later in the day with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs 90-97 except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Dew point near 70. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, but can be variable, strong, and gusty near any storms.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms during the evening. Patchy fog. Lows 70-77. Dew point near 70. Wind variable 5-15 MPH but can be strong and gusty near any storms.
SATURDAY: Sun / cloud mix. Highs 83-90, cooler in some coastal locations. Dew point upper 60s. Wind N to variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 63-70. Dew point in 60s. Wind variable under 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (JULY 28 – AUGUST 1)
A general northwesterly air flow will send a couple disturbances / fronts through with limited shower and thunderstorm chances during a stretch of mostly fair weather. Temperatures variable, averaging not far from normal.
DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 2-6)
Indications continue for large scale northwest flow – some up and down temps but nothing extreme, and mainly dry with a couple passing shower / t-storm chances from disturbances moving along the upper flow.
Thank you, TK.
Thanks TK.
Good morning and thank you TK

SPC outlook for Friday
https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day3otlk.html
Should be updated around 3:30 PM.
Thanks TK
As JpDave mentioned SPC already has all of SNE in a level one out of five for severe weather on Friday.
Thanks TK !
Thank you, TK
68/60 up from a low of 53. Five degrees above yesterdays low.
Joshua, I’m in your camp on the Sox.
I think it’s 5 out of 6 or 5 out of 7 past seasons finishing in last place.
As you mentioned, 3 straight seasons now ending the 1st half in decent shape, then ownership the past 2 didn’t do much for them at the trade deadline.
Give the Sox credit, they took full advantage of a schedule that offered them a 35-65, a 25-75 and a light hitting just above .500 Tampa team to rip off 10 straight. It was awesome.
But against these +20 or more above .500 teams, the only day I feel decent about their chance to win with their offensive lineup is Crochet, because he can win 2-1, 3-2 games.
I have not followed the Sox for years. When I did, it seemed to me that when they started strong, they weakened after the break. And vice versa. It almost sounds to me as if that has not changed. I may be way off base. No pun intended
They sure could use a solid #2 pitcher.
At the trading deadline? We shall see. Knowing this management, I say HA HA HA, but I hope they land a good one.
Thanks, TK!
fail on wordle today. I ran out of choices
Had 3 letters in proper location after 3. It became obvious what one of the remaining 2 was and the location for it.
SO I now had 3 guesses to get it, only problem was there were more than 3 words that fit.
4th guess showed I had the letter and position I thought, so now it was a matter of the proper 1st letter.
So guess 4 had the last 4 correct, but 1st letter was not it.
Just went down the alphabet for letters that made a word.
5th Nope
6th Nope
All valid words, just not the correct one which ended up
very near the end of the alphabet.
I HATE it when this happens. I was just unlucky as I was all over it!!!!
I had four but was lucky because my first three words eliminated some of those choices. When there are so many choices, it gets frustrating. Nyt has gotten much sneakier with combinations that create choices.
I got it on the last chance. Lots of green squares, but so many choices.

Yup, I still had choices when I ran out of guesses.
I should have started at the other end of the alphabet. 🙂
I got lucky with my third guess. It gave me four letters with three in the right place ….so technically I had last four letters and really only one choice.
I use the first two guesses to find vowels and some consonants. Then I try to put the letters in a position that might make a word and use the letter X for spaces remaining.
I also tend to think that doing wordle at midnight when I’m tired and my mind is only partly functioning keeps me from overthinking.

6.
I had 4 letters, all in the wrong spot, by the 3rd guess.
Very good to get it. Oddly, I seem to have more difficulty when I have three or four in the wrong place.
Tomorrow is the anniversary of the return of Apollo 11 to earth. It wasn’t that long ago and the only knowledge of a major storm was via secret military surveillance.

It’s also amazing to watch people doing calculations on paper.
Most interesting! Thank you.
Oh my goodness. This is fascinating. Thank you.
We’re at 77/60
dp came up fairly quickly
Thanks, TK.
Just so you all know, I’m a diehard Sox fan, so much so that it’s the first thing I look up in the morning when overseas. Yes, even before the weather and WHW (though WHW is a close second!). I proudly wear Sox gear on the London Tube and elsewhere in Europe.
I hope I’m wrong and the pattern we’ve been seeing in recent seasons doesn’t repeat itself. We shall see.
What I like about Cora is his honesty. Last night, he said and I’m paraphrasing, “if we want to play in October, we need to be able to hit against good pitching.” This is a valid point. This lineup can tee off against bad pitching. But good pitchers stymie them. Not always, but frequently.
hmmm, the best players can hit good pitchers, the rest of them simply cannot. How many “best” players do we have?
I remember on time Jim Rice teeing off on Jim Palmer one night. It was amazing!! A good hitter hitting a good pitcher, sight to behold!!!!
I also wear Bruins gear as a diehard fan since 1970. Just packed my Bruins shirt. They could lose every game and I’d still wear the shirt. Same with the Sox.
And that is the mark of a true fan. It’s ok to point out flaws. It just isn’t ok ….in my opinion….to kick a team when it’s down. And you were not doing that.
I wear a number 9 Red Sox tee shirt. And I have another tee with four Boston greats …one from each major sport. I’m sure it’s no surprise that #9 is on that also. I also have a hoodie with the red seat on the back.
I’m not sure if I can be called a fan….although I won’t ever fault them as a team whether I watch or not. The only team I’ve ever lost some respect for is the Pats. But even then I respect the players ….just not the owner and then manager. I’m a bit disappointed in Brady for not stepping up. I knew a player who would have. And I am not a fan of Ortiz for reasons some may understand
I don’t understand why you are not a fan of Brady or Ortiz. Can you explain? Just curious since you mentioned.
I did not say I am not a fan of Brady. I am disappointed in him. What BB did to Jones was inexcusable. Brady could have supported Jones. But then I may be wrong on that. No one was aware when Ted stepped in to support players.
Ortiz was outspoken on the red seat. I lost all respect for him then.
Some members of the Euro Ensemble (regular version and the AI version) are starting to show the potential for a tropical system near the East Coast a week into August. It’s not that many members, but more than a couple. The waves rolling off of Africa now are a little more robust than they have been so far this season, and the Saharan Dust outbreaks aren’t nearly as strong as they were, so the idea is at least plausible. This is something I will be keeping an eye on over the next few days to see how it evolves.
Ok, thanks SAK !
Interesting. Thank you.
Jim Rice is one of the more interesting sluggers to analyze. Eyesight issues seem to have cut his career short. I think that he could have made the 500 homer club had this not happened. He was a bit of an unusual slugger in that he obviously had power but could also hit for average and spray the ball all over the field. He was a phenomenal triples hitter in the late 70s. Hit 15 in 1978. He also became an excellent breaking ball hitter later in his career and could hit against any pitcher, as JP Dave noted. Towards the end it was the high fast ball that got him out. This isn’t that unusual. We see that Devers and other veterans become susceptible to high heat.
I met Jim, Fred Lynn, Bernie Carbo, Rick Burleson, George Scott, pretty much everyone from the late 70s teams. I was like a groupie and would greet them as they got off their charter flights at Logan (Butler Aviation). To this day, I consider the lineup they had the best baseball has ever had.
Could Jim Rive ever hit a golf ball a long way!!!
Ted thought Rice was an exceptional talent.
82/56
I AM outside and still feels DRY. BEAUTIFUL!!!
SPC outlook for Friday, virtually the same as this morning
https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day3otlk.html
Jim Rice had a wicked swing, all seemingly in the wrist, a whip motion I’ve never seen in another hitter.
Dwight Evans had a most unusual stance and also had power to all fields.
Heck, George Scott had tremendous power to the opposite field, too.
Man, that lineup was awesome. Throw in Yaz, Fisk, Hobson, Lynn. The outfield trio of Rice, Lynn, and Evans was something special.
A dream team
Hi all!
Just got back from a mom visit to bring her clean clothes and read some mailed greetings to catch her up on those. She’s still got a way to go, and the day-by-day work continues. Not certain of the time-frame and full expectations just yet, but all the potentials are being discussed for ease of implementation once we know.
Weatherwise, another fab summer day today. The heat turns up tomorrow and Friday, but we won’t be breaking any records. Summer heat, certainly a challenge for the sensitive, so use caution if you’re one of them. Always good to use some caution even if you’re not. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can sneak up on healthy people if they should happen to overdo it physically and/or not hydrate enough. Pay attention!
My next focus is on the timing of the t-storm threat Friday. RRFS & HRRR short range models have the threat in the afternoon and evening, with the latter being a little quicker (early afternoon to early evening NW to SE) and the former being a little slower (later afternoon to mid evening NW to SE). Either way, we’ll have to be on the look-out for strong to severe storms, and I can go into more detail about that the next couple mornings, and update as needed.
Quite confident now that the front blasts through enough for a stellar Saturday – and that will be great news for Revere Beach Sand Sculptures / Fireworks.
Sunday’s still got a ? to be answered, and that’s the track and timing of the next disturbance in the W-NW air flow. ECMWF guidance is pretty quick to bring it in during the daytime. Some guidance is slower with the system with more of a nighttime shower threat. Even still, some guidance has the focus to our south. Time will tell with my hand on the fine-tuner knob for that forecast as soon as I have enough info to be confident.
I am about to head up to Hampton Beach. It’s Wednesday Night Fireworks and another beautiful weather evening ahead!
TK, that Is amazing news. Thank you for letting us know.
Enjoy Hampton. I can’t recall if Paul does Hampton but seem to think he might
Derek Lavalle does all of the Hampton displays. 🙂
Ahhhh from the same company? He is the one who told Paul about you?
Paul found me himself from my Salisbury posts. Yes, same company. 🙂
Nice. Say hi for me if you see him. Enjoy tonight
Thanks for the update tk. Been thinking of you both.
I got wordle in one guess today! Me and the wife went to the paper store today to try their new free self serve water station where you have flavor options, caffeine or no caffeine, sparkling or not, etc. – it was such a fun little thing. (You have to bring in your own bottle.) for anyone who plays wordle you’ll know why I got it in one.
Omg. I don’t even have words. Congratulations. That is beyond amazing
Good update, TK. Encouraging.
Good news on your Mom TK.
Good news on your mom
Happy for the news about your mom!
While listening to overnight radio (WBZ), I heard that up until last night’s 9-8 Red Sox 11 inning win against the Phillies, the Sox were 0-7 on the road in extra innings. I hadn’t noticed that.
The game was nothing but a home run derby with absolute ZERO pitching on either side.
The Red Sox badly need a #2 pitcher!
New post…
