Thursday July 24 2025 Forecast (7:06AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 24-28)

Offshore high pressure increases the heat and humidity today, but with fair weather. Heat and humidity peaks on Friday but with the addition of a shower and thunderstorm chance from a cold front moving into and through the region from northwest to southeast during the afternoon and evening. This breaks the heat and lowers the humidity and sets up a stellar summer Saturday as high pressure moves in. But systems moving right along mean that we’ll head right back to an unsettled weather threat Sunday as a disturbance and frontal system move in from the west. Currently, it looks like a dry morning followed by a showery afternoon, and I will have to fine-tune timing, coverage, and duration for that system still. Behind that, another high builds in with fair weather for next Monday.

TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 78-85 South Coast, 86-93 elsewhere. Dew point in 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 68-75. Dew point rises toward 70. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sunshine through midday. Clouds develop / arrive during the afternoon with a good chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs 88-95 except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Dew point near 70. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, but can be variable, strong, and gusty near any storms.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Lingering showers / thunderstorms possible south of I-90 early, otherwise clearing. Lows 66-73. Dew point falls below 65. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 81-88, except cooler in some coastal locations. Dew point near 60. Wind N to variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 63-70. Dew point near 60. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sun followed by clouds with a chance of afternoon showers, possibly a thunderstorm. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point in 60s. Wind SE to S 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the evening. Clearing overnight. Patchy fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point falls to near 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 82-89. Dew point 60+. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 29 – AUGUST 2)

A general northwesterly air flow will send a couple disturbances / fronts through with limited shower and thunderstorm chances during a stretch of mostly fair weather. Most likely days for non-zero t-storm chances are July 29 and 31. Temperatures variable, averaging not far from normal.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 3-7)

Indications continue for large scale northwest flow – some up and down temps but nothing extreme, and mainly dry with a couple passing shower / t-storm chances from disturbances moving along the upper flow.

  1. Made 85 yesterday.
    66 overnight, currently 71 with dp 61.

Waiting for latest spc outlook for tomorrow. Last one still had marginal risk across the area.

  2. Thanks TK
One last day down in Virginia with the humidity in check. By tomorrow it will feel like it typically does down here in the summer.

  3. 77, dp 63 here.

I am surprised at how slow the temperature rise is so far today.
For a day that is “supposed” to top 90, not looking that way so far.
I know it may actually take to later in the afternoon to even reach 90, but I would have thought the temperature rise would be a little faster than it has shown so far.

NOT that I am complaining. It still feels NICE!!! I am still getting a cool breeze through my window next to my desk and computer.

Normally on the really hot days, I would be turning on all of the ACs by now. Simply not needed yet at all.

  4. re: squirrels

Anyone have any tips on how to keep them away?
The other day, one wastrying to get into our kitchen
as it was clinging onto the screen and trying to gnaw a hole
in the screen. Luckily our screens are a metal and not some of the newer type plastic or fabric screens. Scared the hell out of my wife!!

This morning, the same bugger tried it again and I had to scare it off and shut the window.

The other day, the same squirrel gnawed through a neighbor’s kitchen screen and actually got in and then gnawed through another screen to get out. Weird. You would think it would exit via the same hole????

Any how, this creepy squirrel is becoming a neighborhood
    MENACE!

    Any thoughts?

    Many thanks

    1. This won’t help you but it did remind me of a former boss I had several years ago. He was trapping squirrels in his yard and bringing them to our work place and letting them free here. 🙂

  5. re: Wordle
5 for me today. Almost had it at 2. Again, too many matching words. Guess in the wrong order, and the # of guesses climbs.

    1. Excellent. And More choices. I’ve been lucky since my two newer first words have eliminated some choices. It was a 3 for me today.

    2. My head is still spinning thinking about Dr S’s one yesterday. I wonder what the odds of one are

      1. Comes down to a LUCKY GUESS. It is bound to happen at some point. Probably will NEVER happen for me. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    3. Just didn’t see it. Wouldn’t have gotten the word in a million years with what I had uncovered.

      Onto tomorrow 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. Crazy game, isn’t it.
If one does NOT uncover some letters in the proper position it becomes nearly impossible.

Here is a list of good starting words

        Adieu
        Crane
        Arise
        Trace
        Audio
        Media
        Crate
        Roast
        Slate
        Least
        Slant
        Soare
        Stare
        React
        Salet
        Slice
        Tales
        Aisle
        Canoe
        Carte
        Cones
        Sauce

        1. I have new words for the past few weeks but Adieu is the word I used from the start. Followed by story. All vowels are covered. But the folks at nyt got wise and I truly believe chose words designed not to work with some of these in mind. They have mentioned adieu several times.

      2. Darn. Tomorrow. Although, with the photos I’m seeing of the area you are in, I don’t know how you can concentrate

  6. Thanks TK. The summer sea breeze seems a bit stronger than usual last two days. Also blowing pretty good so early in the morning.

  7. re: squirrel saga
Just went into the kitchen. Good thing I closed the window.
The damn squirrel was sitting on the sill between the window and the screen. I scared him away and he exited out the big hole he
gnawed in the screen. What a pest!!!

I don’t like to harm animals, but this one may become an exception!!!!!!!

I do have a Have a heart trap I suppose I could trap and then
transport this bugger to a location many miles from here.
(It is illegal to do so. Not sure why, but I guess it is)

    1. Yep this illegal to relocate. Although I didn’t know it applied to squirrels. When we had a skunk family living under the front stairs, I looked into it. Anyone who says they will relocate will euthanize

I’ve never heard of a squirrel gnawing through a screen to get into a house. Thank heavens the window was closed. We used Irish spring soap bars to get rid of the skunks. I winded if a few on your sill would discourage Rocky.

      1. Well that is my go to soap, so I have it available.
First, I have to get the screen repaired. It is a 4 to 5 inch diameter hole!!! squirrel did it quickly as I 1st shooed it away about 8AM and closed the window then at 9:30 it was sitting there
between the closed window and the screen with a hole in it!!!

Certainly not acting like it will be a 90 degree day. Not to say it won’t reach 90, just not acting that way yet, anyway.

    1. The warmest 850 mb temps look to be across northern New England today, so I wonder if Burlington, VT, and other locales up there end up a 1F or 2F hotter than Logan.

There is some warm air advection across southern areas, so I wonder if you get to 90F closer to 4 or 5pm than say 2 or 3pm ?

Here, we’re getting some warm advection cloudiness and a healthy SW wind. Still low humidity and it’s probably in the low 70s. It’s superb !!

  9. Oh, so the CBC weather came on a few nights ago …..

Since June 1st, what an incredibly dry summer the Maritimes are having !!

Sydney at that point since June 1 had an average total rainfall of 90mm and they had 9mm !!

And all the other areas were at 50% or less of rainfall.

Each province at 2pm local time decides if fires are allowed for the day and most days it has been no.

    1. I forecast for a radio station just outside Saint John, NB, so I can attest to how dry it’s been. Hasn’t been a lot of rain in that forecast for a while.

    1. Funny too. A friend just sent me a headline that talked about “unprecedented heat” in the Northeast today and tomorrow.

      Yeah. Sure.

  10. Thanks TK! I like your Saturday forecast 😉

Tomorrow looks real good for some strong to severe storms across SNE IMO. Not a tornado threat day – lack of veering in the shear profiles, LCLs likely on the higher side, moisture somewhat marginal and/or late-arriving. But even with somewhat limited deep layer moisture, there’s gonna be plenty of CAPE, and the higher bases and presence of some dry air in the profile will work to the advantage of downdraft wind potential. Frontal timing looks really good too for a good show especially for the eastern and southern parts of the area, might be a day where the city itself is most in the crosshairs.

    1. SPC did upgrade to a slight risk on their new Day 2 but IMO it should include all of eastern MA (even Cape/Islands) and RI.

  11. Strong wind gust look to be the main threat with the stronger storms tomorrow.

      1. Vicki looks like there a chance you could get into some thunderstorm action tomorrow. No thunderstorms down here. The weather has been great sunny skies temps in the mid to upper 80s with dew points in the mid to upper 60s. Tomorrow low 90s feeling like over 100 dew points in the 70s.

        1. Thank you and fun to Look forward to.

I love that your weather has been perfect. Stay cool tomorrow. Ugh

  12. Whatcha gonna do when the Grim Reaper runs wild on you?

RIP Hulk Hogan. Another piece of my childhood gone.

  13. Google just sent me an “Extreme Heat Dome Alert” and told me that most of the country is experiencing a record-breaking, unprecedented heatwave.

The real answer: No, most of the country is not experiencing a record-breaking, unprecedented heatwave. We are getting closer to the point where NOBODY will ever believe any news story, and it’s being triggered by complete hype and fictional headlines.

Journalism should be doing better. It’s NOT HARD TO DO.

      1. I mean sure, there’s some mean heat in the Mississippi Valley, Midwest, and parts of the East Coast. It’s called: Summer. And much of the middle of the country has actually been runningo on the cooler side, especially compared to last year. I am SO TIRED of EVERYTHING ORDINARY being turned into something EXTRAORDINARY. They act like storms shouldn’t happen, it shouldn’t get hot in summer, cold in winter (though they emphasize that far less), but you get the idea.

When is it going to end? Probably never. $$$$$$$$$

        1. Even worse, I’ve seen people posting the 8-14 day outlook with below normal temps for the Northeast and comments saying “an early taste of fall is on the way!”

          1. Yeah, no surprise!

I think that odd duck with the YouTube channel notorious for hype was talking about a “shot of arctic air”. A couple days before that he said “A storm is about to hit us, six times. I’ve never seen anything like it!” … I sincerely wish all of these pages could be immediately shut down.

  14. 88, 69 here.
Warm, but not brutally hot for sure!
DOESN’T bode well for dew points tomorrow when it will be warmer/hotter.

  15. Seeing mixed reports for next Monday to Wednesday with the high temp being 94 on Tuesday. Does this make sense or is just a plug from a model? Thanks.

    1. Does not look that hot to me.

Where did you see the 94? I know NWS has some temps around there .. but I’m not convinced yet.

      1. The 10 day forecast on ch 5 web page showed a 94 for Tuesday but didn’t know if that was realistic.

        1. I found 91 for Wcvb, 93 for WBz and whdh and 90 for bostonnbc10. But that is Tuesday which is five days away. After three it is subjective at best. Remember, corporate insists on 7 or 10 day forecasts.

    1. Just don’t be expecting 100% coverage of severe weather in a slight risk area that is probably a tiny bit further NW than it should be.
