DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 3-7)
High pressure continues its dominance on our weather through early next week. We have a chilly morning ongoing as I write this, due to the high center being right over the region and a night of radiational cooling having taken place. But a nice temperature recovery takes place during the day today. Temperatures will then reside in above to much above normal territory as high pressure parks itself south of our region over the weekend and early next week.
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind variable under 10 MPH then SW up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 51-58. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 72-79, coolest South Coast. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 53-60. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 75-82 though a little cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 55-62. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Sunny. Highs 76-83, again a little cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 55-62. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 76-83, except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 8-12)
A cold front brings a good chance of showers for a portion of September 8 – timing to be fine-tune. Another high pressure moves in with another dry weather stretch for the balance of this period, temperatures cooling at first then recovering to milder again.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 13-17)
Two brief shower threats (~October 13 & 17), otherwise a mainly dry and variable temperature pattern, but no extremes.
Good morning and thank you TK.
47 here this morning.
Looks like another beautiful day today!!!
Too bad about the Sox. That one bad inning did them in. Next year!
Last night Pete talked about East Coast Sea breezes keeping it below 80 at the coast. Looks like you disagree with him.
Curious as to your thoughts. Thank you.
Ocean temp: 61 (Boston buoy)
Wordle: 4
5 for me on wordle.
Interesting word today. You got it. Who will come in with 3 today?
SClarke
That was my thinking. We shall see. He’s awfully good at this game.
Wordle 4 for me also
Yay.
Thanks Tk .
Thanks TK !
Love the weather coming the next 5 days !!
As long as the dam humidity doesn’t creep in.
Damn
Yes and it won’t really.
It’s interesting how much difference the humidity has at lower temps.
Thank you TK
Our low was 38. Lowest so far by a degree. Warmup begins. I’ll ck with Pete to see if he can get that sea breeze in here
He did kind of hint that it would only be pretty close to the coast. He even said no sea breeze for Newton and even Brookline. Hello, I can almost throw a stone from my house to Brookline. 🙂
Darn. It was worth a try.
Vicki, Mac Jones did it again last night !!
PS, I’m very happy to have Drake Maye, but wow, did the Patriots botch how they handled Mac Jones and I’m glad to see him succeeding under strong offensive side of the ball, coaching.
Botched? I should say so and then some!!!!!
I hated they way they treated him. Belichick was a total ass!!!
I am really happy for Mac.
But we have to deal with what we have. Buffalo will be a really good test for Drake Maye. If he performs well this Sunday, I am prepared to say that we HAVE OUR QUARTERBACK!!!
Last 2 weeks have been most encouraging with Drake Maye throwing 75%+ completions each week.
Agree with every word for Mac and Drake. I really like what we have seen with him.
I am literally smiling ear to ear. That young man showed us his potential his first year. I am beyond happy that he managed to shake the damage BB and in good part the fans did and that his talent is being recognized
Thank you, Tom!
I’m laughing at the Wordle discussion above. I did in fact get it in three. 🙂
Love it!!!
You really are good at this!!!! Clearly the best of the WHW players. Great job in 3!!!
Thanks!
Thanks, TK!
37 was the low.
A very fun season for the Sox.
What a pitching performance from the kid from Walpole!!!
Another fantastic storyline that is the great rivalry history between the Yankees and Red Sox!
I think Ben Rice is from Cohasset. I must say it was weird to see a picture of him as a kid donning Yankee gear while his two siblings had Red Sox outfits on. Of course, anyone can be a fan of any team. But living in Cohasset and being a Yankee fan in a Red Sox household strikes me as a bit odd.
Having lived in The Netherlands where a similar rivalry exists between Ajax and Feyenoord (Amsterdam and Rotterdam soccer clubs, respectively), I can attest that it would be simply unheard for a kid growing up in Amsterdam to ever wear a Feyenoord shirt or jacket. Likewise, it’s unimaginable that a child growing up in Rotterdam would ever wear an Ajax shirt or jacket.
City loyalty is SO ingrained there, on so many levels. This is a centuries old phenomenon and can explain why rivalries there can be so heated. It also explains why people stick with their team, win or lose. I don’t know of an opportunistic fan in The Netherlands or would jump ship because their team isn’t doing well.
It’s the same for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain!
Thanks, TK.
For those who are interested, I’m busy, just about 24/7, writing articles on healthcare and public health. You can check out my latest contributions here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/

Thanks TK.
40 for the low here in Coventry this AM.
Agree with Captain, just an amazing performance from Cam Schlittler last night. No pitcher in baseball history had thrown 12 strikeouts while giving up 0 walks in a postseason game. Grew up in Walpole as a Red Sox fan and his father is now the Chief of Police in Needham. Yankees pitching staff has the potential to be dominating next year with this kid, Fried, Rodon, and Cole coming back….IF they can stay healthy.
To correct what Philip said near the end of the last blog, the Red Sox are NOT the first team in MLB to win the first game but not move on to the Divisional Series. It happened twice in 2020 when they first introduced the three game wild card series. The MLB strayed from that format in 2021 before returning to it in 2022.
Red Sox IMO overachieved this season and have nothing to be ashamed of.
Well, both local and national media said that it was the Red Sox, which is why I posted it.
What were the teams that won the first game and later lost the series?
I agree that the Red Sox did overachieve in the regular season but imo “underachieved” in game 2.
I still maintain that losing Roman Anthony was the key in not advancing.
Mark I will also add for pitchers for the Yankees Luis Gil and Will Warren. If they all stay healthy next year no team is going to want to play the Yankees and face that pitching staff
The immediate future for the Yankees is bright. They have a formidable lineup and a potentially dominant starting pitching staff. Defensively they could improve as well as their bullpen. But that’s fixable. I am shocked they didn’t win the division. I think they can do that next year and perhaps win more than 100 games.
Regarding the Red Sox, some really bright spots with a lot of question marks. I can see a good version of this club with some important additions competing with the Yankees for first place in the division.
As far as the playoffs are concerned, some of it really is a crapshoot. This especially applies in a 3-game series. Look what happened to the Indians/Guardians (it’s still hard for me to say Guardians; I’m definitely old school in this regard).
The Red Sox need more bats in their lineup and better starting pitching.
Wordle in 4
yay. 4 was the norm today. with an over and an under.
Haha
Excellent.
Lou Merloni expresses it well on his “Walk the Dog” video, which he puts out regularly: https://x.com/LouMerloni/status/1974170660076130341
I highly respect Lou. He keeps it real. No hyperbole. Just objective assessment.
My wife and I played poker with him some years ago while he was still with Cleveland. Truly a regular guy at the table as he would readily engage in conversation with anyone at the table. Always liked him.
What a fun memory
Philip –
From mlb.com…
Of the 20 previous teams to lose Game 1 in a best-of-three Wild Card Series prior to this year, just four had forced a Game 3, like the Guardians and Yankees did — and all did so at home. The 2020 A’s and Padres both completed the comeback, while the 2022 Mets and 2024 Brewers did not.
Hi all! Been super-busy. I just got back from a haircut and I’m sipping a Wendy’s lemonade (their various lemonades and salads are so good!). So I have a few minutes to catch up here…
* Red Sox: RIP. I believed in you, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Actually, slightly over-achieved this season based on my original expectations, so that’s good at least.
* Weather: Not much to talk about. One thing I may do is change my wind forecast a bit for the weekend and Monday. A little more time to really establish a southwest flow which happens Tuesday as it stands now. We still experience a warm-up, but yes, there’s a sea breeze shot tomorrow and even Sunday. If Boston hits 80, it’ll be Monday. And again, I may sound like a busted record, but the record high temps through Tuesday were never remotely in danger of being challenged, let alone tied or broken. This is not nearly the warmest weather we can see at this time of year, and it’s been exceeded many times. So if anyone tries to tell you it’s unusually warm, it’s not. Just keeping it real, as usual. 😉 Next thing I have to work on is the timing of the next cold front. Leaning first half of the day Wednesday. Also, not in total agreement with CPC on a lot of their outlooks, especially the October one. More about that later though. I have a few things to do before I had to the Woburn HS football game.
* Concert: Last night I went to the Cosmic Devolution Tour featuring Lene Lovich, Devo, and The B-52’s. All 3 were awesome! I didn’t even buy my tickets (went with Nate) until 2 nights before the show. Great last minute decision. 🙂
On average, Boston has one 80 degree day in October. The most was 8 in 1947. None so far in 2025.
Fwiw: 1947-48 winter = 89.2” ❄️
I am going to bet that there was NO correlation between October 1947 and the subsequent winter snowfall.
There’s very limited correlation between October and winter. Some of the idea of the pattern for the winter ahead can be found in October, but more so November.
Example: The “snow in October kills snow for the winter” correlation is pretty much a coin-flip. It’s been “true” about 50% of the time. That’s not much of a correlation. 🙂
Cool show you attended, TK.
So neat you got to meet and talk to Lou Merloni, JP Dave.
Down to 55 now. Our high was 74. Lovely Lower DP breeze
55 here Poland Me
Interesting …same temp. Enjoy Maine
Hope you hit one of the many good breweries in that area!
I Read Portland. I’m not familiar where Poland is
Poland ME is just west of Lewiston, a bit of a distance north of Portland. 🙂
Thank you. I’m guessing we may have driven thru it on our way to rangeley
Is that Poland Springs water?
The original spring was located there. There were other locations as well, but that’s where it began. Now that location is a museum and environment educational center – no longer used to bottle the water.
New post…
