DAYS 1-5 (JULY 5-9)
The hot air mass of the last several days has been pushed out of the region by a cold front. We’ll have quite a nice Sunday as high pressure in eastern Canada sends lower humidity our way. There will be more clouds to the south as the front that went by slows down and comes to a stop off the South Coast, but it will be a rain-free day and rather pleasant in comparison to what we went through since midweek. However, now we have to keep an eye on an area of low pressure set to track slowly along that frontal boundary. While we’ll be seeing even cooler air on Monday and Tuesday, we’ll see it becoming rather cloudy with our rain chances increasing, first to the south on Monday while areas to the north stay drier, and then across all of the region on Tuesday, when some beneficial rainfall is expected. The low pressure wave will shift to the east on Wednesday when we’ll see improvement, and then high pressure will build in with the return of fair and seasonably warm July weather by Thursday.

We missed the convection that caused the Esplanade evacuation. I didn’t see any ligtning on my detector. Was there any? Didn’t rain here until much later when ee got a bit of light rain. Not enough to even close the windows.
BTW, it looks like Logan picked up 0.16 inch. Bet anything it was more like .25 inch. Who knows. I don’t trust their rain gauge.
There was no CG lightning closer than about the MA/NH border, but with that cell moving right through the area, they had to be cautious with that many people out there.
Evacuation order was given about 6 p.m. … We were all back in the venue about 1 hour later. The return through security was orderly, and rather quick. The security team, state police, and military police were EXCELLENT. Nothing but praise for every one of them.
The concert was delayed 1 hour, beginning at 8 instead of 7. Ironically this was the “old” start time. Fireworks were at 10:15 after a 10:00 p.m. drone show, which was epic, as were the fireworks. One of my best July 4th’s in Boston, and this was my 36th. 🙂
Happy everything worked out. We could hear the fireworks from here. Some years we can’t but most years we can.
When I saw that cell on radar I could see that it was on a bee line to the Esplanade. I felt badly for everyone as I figured an evacuation would be ordered. I knew it would just miss our area. My son took a video from Jamaica Pond and it showed the Prudential tower getting enveloped in a rain shield while it remained dry here. We did get some outflow from that cell that dropped our temperature from 92 to 79. That was nice.
Wordle in 3 today.
Currently 74 / 67. Overnight low was 62.
Excellent!!! Strange word today.
Thanks TK
First time last evening getting the alert on my phone for a severe thunderstorm warning with a destructive tag attached to it. Thankfully all I got was heavy rain lightning and thunder. Other places in CT not so lucky as it one point over 100,000 customers were without power. Now that number down around 71,000
Ryan Hanrahan posting the track of the hail producing thunderstorm.

They use stronger wording on days that have more people outside.
Makes sense.
