DAYS 1-5 (JULY 19-23)
A cold front moves offshore this morning, taking a band of clouds that lingers over southeastern MA / RI with it. Also the smoke shield that was over our region yesterday still covers the region from I-90 southward as of sunrise but will also be pushed off to the south today. Other than some patchy stratocumulus clouds around this morning to midday, I expect today to turn out sunny with a nice blue sky, a refreshing breeze, low humidity, and after a bit of a cool feel to the air to start, a warmer afternoon. You can’t get much nicer a day than this in the middle of July in New England, so enjoy it if you can do so! High pressure provides fair and comfortable weather for Monday. The next trough from the west approaches Tuesday and passes through our region Tuesday night into Wednesday. This brings our next round of unsettled weather as surface low pressure passes to the north. Its warm front brings in a shower threat and higher humidity by later Tuesday, before its cold front sends a couple rounds of showers and thunderstorms across the region late Tuesday night into Wednesday. The question is how quickly the cold front moves through, ending the threat, and returning drier air to the region. Guidance trends show this may happen by mid afternoon Wednesday. Regardless of the timing of Wednesday unsettled weather’s ending, high pressure brings very nice summer weather to the region Thursday.
TODAY: Early clouds exit southeastern MA & RI as smoke departs southern areas leading to a mainly sunny day with a few passing clouds. Highs 79-86. Dew point falls to 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusts around 20 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Fog patches low elevation areas. Lows 58-65. Dew point 50s. Wind drops to calm.
MONDAY: Hazy sunshine with high altitude smoke. Highs 78-85, coolest coast. Dew point 50s. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Potential high altitude smoke. Lows 60-67. Dew point climbs toward 60. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Hazy. Shower chances increases. Highs 76-83. Dew point 60+. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Areas of fog. Lows 62-69. Dew point in 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms until mid afternoon. Highs 77-84. Dew point in 60s. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts, shifting to W later in the day.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 60-67. Dew point falls to 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 79-86. Dew point in 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (JULY 24-28)
Fair weather is expected to dominate for several days with a shower / t-storm threat returning toward the end of the period. Temperatures near to slightly below normal. No major heat indicated.
DAYS 11-15 (JULY 29 – AUGUST 2)
Shower / t-storm chances eyed July 30-31 otherwise mostly fair weather will be the rule. Temperatures somewhat variable but overall pretty close to normal.
Yesterday (7/18/2026), Concordia in Antarctica recorded a temperature of -84.1C (-119.3F), just 0.5C above the lowest temperature ever recorded there.
This is the coldest temperature recorded on the planet since 2012.

Thanks TK. We ended up with 2.78 inches of rain from the storms yesterday. That adds to the 4 inches after 4th of July and half an inch last week. What will be memorable about this summer is the timing of the storms happening as people are out and about on Friday and Saturday evenings including the 4th. There will be some “remember when” conversations in the future about the summer of 26 for sure…the smoke will add to that as well.
Every year (summer, winter, etc.) has its set of “remember when” events. I can go back and pretty much grab at least one from every calendar year I’ve been alive (might need help on the earliest ones though haha).
Those are certainly true for your area regarding 2026!
Last night I travelled to North Attleboro for my Pyro Tour 2026. It was the only display in the area not cancelled or postponed. I forecast a short window of time where I thought it would be basically rain-free there, and advised they may want to think about moving the fireworks display from its scheduled time of 9:30 to 9:00 p.m. which they did end up doing. Display started right at 9:00, ended at 9:20, and not a drop of rain fell during it. They were able to do set-up under cover and thankfully had no lightning in the area.
No less than 10 minutes after the show was over, raindrops were back.

The current weather reminds me of a pattern we were in one particular summer or two when I was younger (the reason I say 1 or 2, is because I am removing a natural bias all humans have that when we have distinctive weather-related memories, we somehow feel that’s how it always was, even though it wasn’t “always” that way). Anyway, that post cold front, cool, dry, 70s, breezy day after there was high humidity and showers / t-storms.
Today is that kind of day.
It’s funny, regarding that bias. 100% true. I have so many friends my age who say “winter was ALWAYS snowy when we were young” yet if you go back and look at the stats, you’ll find that they are clearly incorrect. Winter was not always snowy, just as winter is not always “unsnowy”. Statistics are always there to set biases straight. Human biases are actually fascinating to me. I learn more and more about them with time.
We have a new four legged family member. Granddaughter and daughter travelled to VA last week to meet a 14 month old for sale. He left VA around 6 am and is headed here. ❤️

I’ll be there in about an hour. Will get a full set of photographs and then give Kelly’s Roast Beef a chance to impress me with their version of Sal’s Pizza, and then I’ll catch a 9 p.m. fireworks show there.

TK – Once the Sand Sculpture contest on Revere Beach is over, are the sculptures destroyed or do they stay and allow “nature” to remove them?
I do know that the First Night ice sculptures in Boston are destroyed the next day. I watched it happen once years ago. It sickened me. 🙁
That’s so sad.
They let them stay for several days before they are taken down. The sand used for them is recycled. Same thing happens at Hampton (and other major sculpting events).
